Bunker Barn Cat
Nitro canned 10/25/23, drunk 12/31/23. Muddy dark caramel with a large, dark beige head showing good retention. Very fruity with earth, cellar, graham cracker and light toast on the finish. Clean, no booze, no butter. Big, round, deep malts. Lots of honey-like character from base malt mixing with the medium malts to give caramel, raisin and finishing with drier toastiness. Great fruitiness throughout, as well as peppery hop bitterness to help balance. Clean, malty, properly attenuated and with a characterful yeast.

Can (12/14/22) pour from Lazy Dog Beer Shoppe. It's a lightly hazy amber-rose with nice sparkle, 2-finger creamy tan nitro head with excellent retention and trace lacing. Aroma is earthy, toasted malt, caramel, nuts and mild spice (light a subtle winter warmer). Taste follows aroma, though less spicy. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, frothy, nitro texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, aroma is stronger than taste. Light and enjoyable.

Bottle at the latest DC Ratebeer tasting. Poured a pitch black color with a small, tan head. Aroma was roasted malts, big chocolate and a ton of maple. Light rum, the maple dominates this one. Light bitter roast finish with a woodsy, maple finish.

From a 16 oz. nitro can dated 12/07/22. Slightly cloudy medium-amber color underneath a nitro infused humungous cream colored head. The aroma is toasted brown bread, butterscotch, caramel, but slightly soapy. The body is light but creamy. The taste is sweet caramel malts at first followed by a traditional and potent English earthy bitterness. An authentic depiction of the style.

16 oz. can from Bier Cellar, Portland, Maine. Pours a clear dark root beer color with a large beige head and great retention. Very good lacing. Roasted molasses and dark bread aroma. Dark roasted walnuts flavor with a very dry finish. One of the darkest, driest brown I've ever had. Medium body. Lightly carbonated. Low bitterness. Well made, but not my favorite take on the style.

16 oz. can from Bier Cellar, Portland, Maine. Pours a pitch black color with a small light tan head and poor retention. Where's the nitro? Zero lacing. Very light aroma of roasted chocolate. Good charred malt flavor, but with a lackluster finish. Light body and a thin mouthfeel. Almost no carbonation. Very low bitterness. Nitro would have helped a lot. Shame.

Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow on tap with dense white cap of foam that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of mild cracker and toasted grain over light grassy and fliral hops. Taste is moderately sweet from the malt, lightly bitter from the hops, a little chewy from the yeast. It's a decent pilsner, but needs to clean up and lager longer.

Can in Bennington. Deep gold-orange pour, prickly carbonation comes on hard for the style. Some sulfur to the nose. Aggressively hopped, but not offensively so. Unpleasantly bitter close. Less a classic Czech pils than a US interpretation.

From the 16 oz. can dated 08/11/21. Attractive mahogany amber pour under a modest, lacing-leaving off-white head. Big caramel malt and toffee malt aroma but there is also a hint of cherries or plum in the background. Light-medium body. It is immediately sweet and malty with roasted character. Again with the dark fruit and mild bitter finish. Quaffable.
