Taos Mesa Superstitious Stout
Almost black with a frothy, off-white head. Faint, dark chocolate aroma. Taste has a rich toffee sweetness. Almost too sweet. Mild roasted bitterness at finish. Ok.

Taos Mesa Mango Lassi Imperial IPA
Gold with a creamy, white head. Aroma promises mango juice. Taste is sweet and cloying. The whole thing is a sickening, artificial, mango concoction. Real mess. Full side of medium. At least it disguises the alcohol.

Taos Mesa Fall Down Brown
Dark brown with a frothy, white head. Mildly nutty and caramel-toned aroma. Mild sweet. Lightish. Mildly watery texture. Pleasantly drinkable, but a stronger hopping would add balance.

Taos Mesa Great Scot Scottish
Beer is falsely entered at 15%. No doubt a misreading of the actual 7.5%. Dark brown with a creamy, white head. Aroma of toast, a bit earthy, but underwhelming. Faint bittersweet. Medium-bodied. Wishy washy. Lacks character for a beer of this heft.

Taos Mesa Kolsch 45
Tasted on tap at their Mothership location in a shaker glass, it poured a pretty clear yellow colour with white foam, lasting with lace. Sadly, the appearance was the best part. The makings of a true-to-style Kolsch were there (crisp and grainy, grassy, subtle biscuity, nutty, bready malt complexity, floral and herbal hop balance) but faint DMS flaw (probably a brewing problem) and uncharacteristic tart lactobacillus bite (maybe a line-cleaning issue?) I wanted to like it more than I did. Taos Mesa's hop-forward American ales are truly inspired, but on my visit at least, their Kolsch and lagers were less perfected.

Taos Mesa Dr Okto
Tasted on tap at their Mothership location in a shaker glass, it poured a pretty orange amber colour with beige foam, lasting with lace. Sadly, the appearance was the best part. The makings of a true-to-style Marzen/Oktoberfest were there (grainy malt, toasty, nutty, maybe a little too much burnt caramel character for style but not bad, medium body with mild noble hop balance) but some DMS (probably a brewing problem) and uncharacteristic tart lactobacillus bite (maybe a line-cleaning issue?) I wanted to like it more than I did. Taos Mesa's hop-forward American ales are truly inspired, but on my visit at least, their Kolsch and lagers were less perfected.

Taos Mesa Take a Knee IPA
Tasted on tap at their Mothership location in a shaker glass. It poured a clear light golden amber. Surprising malt complexity for such pale colour--grainy, biscuity, a little nutty and toasty even--but super-dank ganga hop notes dominate. Black currant, pine, musk, grapefruit rind, melon. Light body but deceptively full mouthfeel, malty middle with a crisp dry finish. Excellent bittersweet balance, a superb example of the American Pale Ale style.

Taos Mesa Solstice Pale Ale
Tasted on tap at Mothership in a shaker glass, it poured a clear light golden amber. The description prepared me for another Sierra Nevada Pale Ale clone, and I suppose the grainbill side of the equation was similar, but this drank a lot danker, pine resiny, with a sharper high-alpha hop bite overall. Reminded me of Pinner or 3Floyds APAs. Light-medium body, some subtle chewiness and caramalt sweetness, lasting hoppy aftertaste and dry finish. Tasty and refreshing, well crafted.

Taos Mesa Koenig Lager
Tasted at GABF 2018 in a sampler glass, a mostly-clear golden colour with weak white foam. A crisp, clean lager. Grainy with a noble hop balance, herbal and black pepper hints. Light body, strong carbonation, dry finish. Tasty and thirst-quenching. Not flawed, but not memorable either. Taos Mesa's hoppier American ales are truly inspired, but this was less so.

Taos Mesa Amarillo Rojo
Tasted at GABF 2018 in a sampler glass. It poured a mostly-clear reddish amber colour with off-white foam, lasting with lace. Malty, caramelly, nutty, toasty, with great single-hop bitter balance: fruity, citrusy, piney, resiny. I love this hop. Great name for a great beer, I wish I could drink more regularly. Delicious.

Taos Mesa Koenig Lager
Pint at the brewpub. This is a good looking beer with a very clear gold body and fluffy white head. Cereal and grass with light spicy hops are in the aroma. Body is light and dry with decent malt flavor reminiscent of corn flake cereal. Fairly assertive hops provide a little citrus and pepper. Dry and crisp. It has plenty of German lager attributes, but doesn't fully conform to one classic style. The malt bill is somewhere between pilsner and vienna.
