Hog’s Head Boss Hog Oatmeal IPA 2.7
Rating #1236 - 27.08.2014 - On tap @revolutionyeg - Clear golden pour - creamy white head. Aroma of grass, citrus, spice. Really creamy mouthfeel derails the hoppy overtones - a chalky, bitter mess.

Hog’s Head Hog’s Breath 3.2
Tap to 4oz. sample at Calgary Beerfest 2015. The server told me that the ABV is 6.5% and that this has been "aged for 6 months in a barrel". Not certain what (if anything) occupied the barrel before this beer. Anyhoo-- this had a hazy orange amber appearance. Aroma was quite muddled, caramel and mushrooms, a bit musty. The palate was caramel dominated, with woody/earthy notes that held prominence over the subdued citrus character. Not sure where this was supposed to go, but I don’t think it got there.

Hog’s Head Boss Hog Oatmeal IPA 3.1
Tap to 4oz. sample at Calgary Beerfest 2015. Medium Amber, quite hazy. Earthy caramel, kind of muddy actually, with some weak citrus bitterness in the finish. Lacking brightness. Just ok for me.

Cloudy amber body with a lacy white head, this beer has a sweet aroma with a hint of grapefruit. Taste is sweet , then bitter with hints of mahogany. Only downfall is it is a touch syrupy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rating from old notes. aroma citrus with some sweetness. Taste has grapefruit, orange, honey sweetness. Something I don’t love that I couldn’t put my finger on. Wasn’t my favorite from them.

Hog’s Head Death by Gingerbread Man 3.1
Pint on tap at Beer Revolution’s Edmonton location pours amber color with small white head that leaves no lacing on the glass. Aroma is gingerbread spices and caramel. Taste is a herbal hop bitterness with the gingerbread spices and a caramel malty sweetness. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Seems to be very similar to the Death By Pumpkin. Might be better with a bit more ginger.

Oh man. This should have been a disaster but it tasted EXACTLY as it’s called. Dead on. So yea, beer name equal beer. No one should ever drink too much of this. I did it for the self punishment. Not really beer.

Hog’s Head A Clockwort Orange 1.7
Just had a hanger 24 orange wheat , and is 1000 times better. On tap at vagabond, minimal aroma, colour was dark, strange for a wheat, tasted way too malty for a nice wheat beer. Minimal orange flavour, all over powered by malt. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hog’s Head Boss Hog Oatmeal IPA 3.5
Finally time to add the rating for this one. I drink a stupid amount of this. It is the IPA on tap at the pub next door to the building I work in. Every time we have an afternoon pint (beer breaks ftw!) it is one of these. The four of us pretty much justify a keg of this on hand at all times all by ourselves. Amber in color with a small white head with some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruits and caramel. Taste is bolder than aroma with a generous citrus hop bitterness with a caramel malty sweetness. Medium bodied with some nice carbonation leaving a pleasant sensation on the palate.

Hog’s Head Black Hog Down Imperial Stout 3.1
Rating #1066 - April 23, 2014 - #mondaynightbeers @RevolutionYEG - . Dark black pour with a weak tan head that caps nicely. Aroma is roast malts, very evocative of a big bodied oatmeal stout. Something is lost here though, there is a sharpness and an odd mouthfeel that steers this beer away from being worthy of the usual IS praise.

The Bear Beer 3.3
Pours a clear amber color with a small off white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, lemon zest and perfumy floral hops. Flavor is a big amount of sweet malts, caramel, light brown sugar with some citrus zest and hop bitterness on the finish. A bit too sweet and seems not completely fermented but a big bodied amber.

Hog’s Head Black Hog Down Imperial Stout 3.6
A good brew...probably the best I’ve had from Hog’s Head. Pours a purely opaque black with a thick couple of fingers of tan head. The nose is roasted heavily with a big woody and earthen note, light raisin or prune dried fruit notes. A bit of a bitter aroma with minimal hops. A bit sweet but the roasted notes take over and add prune and chocolate notes with lactose. Nice roasted, bitter and robust finish. Overall a good, heavy brew.

Hog’s Head Boss Hog Oatmeal IPA 2.9
OKay, a neat idea with oatmeal and IPA style. Pours a amberish orange with a finger of off white head. The nose is mildly malted with a hint of toffee and nuts, light citrus and pine hops. A bit of a toasted malt mid palate with light hops and IPA esque flavours. A bit of a bitter finish with light lemon and orange notes. Overall, a bit boring and not quite an IPA but a nice effort.

Assuming this is the same as the Sherlock lager. Pours a clear pale goldish amber with a spotty head. Aroma of faint sweet pale malts and floral hops with a light fruitiness. Taste is sweet pale malts, cereal, and fruity hops. Decent easy drinking lager.

Colleen’s Finest Amber Ale 3.4
Pours a hazy brownish amber with a little bubbly cask type head. Aroma is caramel, nutty, resinous and piney. Taste is caramel, sweet pale malts a d nuts with a good mix of citrus hops. Good mouthfull of bitterness on the finish... Great balance of hops and malts for an amber, full bodied but I’d add some more hops and make this a red ipa.

Hog’s Head Black Hog Down Imperial Stout 3.7
Appearance: 4/5 -- Cola-black pour with a surprisingly active and lasting head, lots of lacing. -- Aroma: 7/10. -- Aromas of hops, faint grapefruit, roast, definite coffee, toffee, and rum. Strong nose of alcohol. -- Taste: 7/10. Bitter at first, but opens up into a nice cola-chocolate sweetness with a lot of caramel and toffee, definite notes of rum and raisin. A little sour-sweet. --- Palate: 4/5. -- Smooth and slick over the tongue and teeth, with a gentle acidity and lingering astringency. Finish is hops, burnt malt, coffee, and cola-sweetness. --- Overall: 15/20. -- Not a bad little imperial stout. Roasted a little strongly, and the sweetness is a bit unrefined, but I’d definitely buy it again. The rum-like overtones are quite pleasant. It won’t win any prizes today, but it will win my hard-earned money for another bottle tomorrow.

Hog’s Head Black Hog Down Imperial Stout 3.5
750ml brown jug/mini-growler-whatever... Deep brown, not quite black. Fast fading beige cap. Roasty nose, dark chocolate. Taste has big rich chocolate malts and heavy roast, note of alcohol and a lot of bitterness. Long aftertaste, heavy on the charred malts and cocoa. Heavy mouthfeel, thick, carbonation is a bit soft. Overall a good rich impy stout, probably the best beer these guys have done.

This beer tastes exactly like grapefruit juice. Not kidding. If I’d had it in a blind taste test I’d have assumed I’d been fed grapefruit juice. It’s... tough to rate a beer like this. It wasn’t ~bad~ grapefruit juice. It was pretty tasty grapefruit juice. Except it was beer. Uh. If you like grapefruit juice, and can’t have it because it interferes with your medications or something... here you go. Drink this beer.
