Volden Pale Ale
Handpull cask at the Clapton Hart, Clapton. At 4.2%. Golden and clear, slightly on the light side. Smallish white head with loads of soapy lacing. Harsh citrus in the aroma, hay, woody notes, some astringency.taste has a nice bitterness to it, with intensely bitter hops in the finish. Nice full texture for the style and ABV. Decent enough carbonation. Not as exciting as their session beer but holds its own well enough.

Volden Porter
Now known as Volden Winter. Slightly weak head, but good roasted aroma. Very dark in appearance, looks heavy. Burnt caramel notes, liquorice, slightly astringent and only slightly sweet on the aftertaste, exactly as a London porter should be. A good rival for By Yhe Horns’ Lambeth Walk, the standard for all London porters. An excellent beer that’s rapidly becoming my winter staple.

Volden Porter
Cask at Clapton Hart. It pours darkest brown with a small beige head. The aroma is soft, sweet, toffee, filter coffee, cocoa, roasted malt and some meatiness. The taste is dry, pretty bitter, some astringency, roasted malt. charred wood, burnt coffee, brown bread, marmite and some toasted brown sugar. Finish is drying and a bit astringent / burnt. Lighter end of medium body and soft carbonation. It is hard to see last that astringent / burnt coffee character. Not great....

Distinctly cloudy. Could be by design or the pub not giving it long enough to settle. Clearly not off though. Pretty standard for its type, although perhaps a tad more citrus than most golden ales. OK but no wow factor.
