Bexar County Papa Steve
Tap @Stoneworks, Peterborough. 2022 iteration, I guess. Black, huge tan head, OK lacing. Nose - roasts, cocoa/coffee mix, pinch of ash. After beer warms up cocoa drowns everything else. Taste - cocoa & coffee, roasted malts, cream. Initially watery, gets thicker with temperature.

Bexar County El Fin
330ml bottle share with Will. Cloudy deep brown with a white head. Smells like a Flemish Red; oaky, red wine, big grain and tart, balsamic notes. High carbonation, but not overly so. Complex, and quite savoury and woody.

Bexar County El Fin
Bottle from the Virtual Salford Independent Beer Festival box. Aroma is vinous and fruity. Underlying almost honey sweet hints. Opaque light brown. A load of floaters. Creamy light beige head soon shrinks away. Initial sour edged sweet fruitiness is replaced by a medium bitter streak, which I guess is reminiscent of tea. As I drink more it really picks up a highly sour vein which will be the impact of the damson. Light bodied. Thin. Flat carbonation. Long very dry astringent finish. I like this. A light sour red. I guess it's more like a standard sour or a watered down one but fruity and bitter, perhaps the impact of the Kombacha. I messaged the two hip young people I know and neither of them have ever had Kombucha. My homework from this beer: try some of that stuff. Enjoyable if different. Slips down.

Bexar County Latte Da
Gravity cask at the 2020 Leicester Beer Festival. Dark brown, opaque with a bit of creamy khaki head. Coffee and chocolate aroma with fresh paper and light stone fruit. Balanced taste: the fruity bitterness is calmed by a light sweetness. The finish however is bitter with plum and cooking chocolate. Full body, light carbonation. Decent.

Gravity cask at the 2020 Leicester Beer Festival. Pink and cloudy with very little head. Sharp acidic berry notes in the aroma. Taste is bitter and fruit-laden, with an uncompromising bitter/sour finish. Light body, no carbonation. Doesn't come together particularly well.

(Cask in UK - CWAF2018?) (6:3-:6:2+11=2.8) Ruddy brown. Light roast, more milk chocolate than coffee here. Oilyish, sweet palate. The nuts come over as dusty. Underwhelming. Phil doesn't have notes for this.

Gravicask (CWAF2018) (5-:3-:4:2:8=2.2--) Sweet bubblegum aroma, can see the hefe acting here, some apples too. Cloudy, no head worth mentioning. Taste is also more bubblegummy. Palate is a little acidic. Crappy hefe.

Gravicask (CWAF2018) (4-:2:4-:2:7=1.9--) Murky mess. Dodgy off fruit aroma. Messy taste. Fullish palate, but dirty and rough. Finish makes me want to scrape my tongue. What the fuck is this trying to be, it's certainly not a beer produced by any beer-making technique I'm familiar with. The only homebrew I ever threw away was way better than this. Shame on the brewer for releasing this garbage juice.

Bexar County Son Of Papa Steve
17/01/2020. Cask at the 11th Elysian Winter Beer Festival. As Son Of Papa Steve, this was served last year at Peterborough Beer Festival (and is on another beer rating website) as Papa Steve 2019. Pours opaque black with a small beige head. The Belgian yeast makes a huge difference compared to Papa Steve. Aroma is lovely. Dark, dried and tart fruits, light spiced fruit cake, dark chocolate, roasted malt and a touch of coffee. Moderate sweetness, medium roasted bitterness, light tartness. Medium to full body, slick/oily texture, soft to flat carbonation. This is very good too, for me the original Papa Steve just shades ir.

17/01/2020. Cask at the 11th Elysian Winter Beer Festival. In the programme as "the original and only recipe" Steve was on-hand to confirm this has gone back to its origins. Pours opaque black with a small beige head. Aroma of toffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, biscuit, dried fruits, touch of nut and molasses. Medium sweetness and moderate to medium roasted bitterness. Full bodied, slick texture, soft to flat carbonation. Toasted, dark chocolate, moderately bitter, warming finish. Yep, this is good.

17/01/2020. Cask at the 11th Elysian Winter Beer Festival. Pours cloudy pale gold with a small white head. Aroma of lime, citrus, touch of tequila. Moderate sweetness and bitterness, with quite light tartness. Moderate body, slight oily and watery texture, soft carbonation. Big lime finish. It probably achieves what it sets out to achieve but it wasn't a hit with us.

Admirably odd as ever. I sense chipotle without heat. Freeze dried raspberries. Ink and dank burnt vegetal matter. Gentle madness. Good character and condition at the strength. Aroma of ink, burnt Sugar Puff. Pitch/tan and lacy. Quite umami with a tingle of acid too. Drinking Bexar is never dull or bland so amen to that. Cask gravity at Leicester BF 2019, 14/03/19.
