Justice Prior Art
This how to makes a sour beer with hours. No bitterness no resin, beautiful medley of tropical flavors. Orange juice mixed with passion fruit. Loght, fruity, natural, and funky not sour. Not pretty with super murky light honey color.

Justice Didactic - Whiskey
Bottle. Pours clear, but dark brown color with a smallish light tan head on there. Nose first hits you with some caramel, then comes the whiskey; there is some underlying dark fruits in there, but actually seems like it would be sweet. Taste is definitely tart, but not as tart as you might think based on the nose. Hints of cherry and caramel on the back end.

Justice Didactic - Whiskey
500mL capped long neck bottle. Ruby brown color, not much of a head. Aroma is alcohol barrel scented, lightly balsamic bur not sour, musky. Aroma is malt heavy but flavor is less so with our bruin traditional character with a barrel and whiskey scented sourness. Itís close to a traditonal oud bruin with a bit more sourness and whiskey. I like it more than many modern sourness.

Justice Whiter & Nerdier IPA
22oz bottle, I think fresh, no date of course. Seems to have just hit Full Throttle Bottles. Poured into old school Blanche de Chambly flute glass. Clear golden color, small head. Well, the beer is what I hoped for. You see, its a nano brewery that has been messing around with funky stuff. Now, its back to brewing a white IPA. Yet, this white IPA is touched by Brett. Or maybe I am getting Brett crazy and imagining things. Definitely a strong, soft wheat maltiness, slightly sweet biscuity bread. Light fruity and citrus hops peak out, low bitterness. The brett is light but funk-centric, just a light herbal brett blanket of funk over the beer. Cool stuff, wish it was a bit leaner but may get nicer with a bit of time.

Justice Butterfinger Brown
Poured from a bottle. Not at all what I was expecting. Not sure if this is a bad bottle, or if this is what was intended. Doesnít seem like an imperial brown ale, more like a sour brown. I was expecting a richer, more chocolatey brown ale. This pours a murky brown with a very thin beige head. The color gets darker deeper into the glass. Aroma is somewhat sweet and tart, maybe even a little smoky with subtle coffee notes. Taste is sour with some chocolate and sweetness, somewhat reminiscent of Butterfinger, but way too sour to taste much like it. Medium mouth feel with quite a bit of carbonation that makes it feel lighter. Overall a decent beer if this is what was intended, but it should be advertised that way.

Justice Butterfinger Brown

Sub par, not exciting.

Justice Experience Everett Imperial Coffee Stout
Black with a thin fizzy pale tan head. Aroma is tons of coffee, slightly burnt coffee beans and coffee grounds, dusty cocoa powder, caramel. Pretty nice. Taste is more coffee, lots of coffee, roast malt, slight bit of cocoa, light-medium bitterness, bit of acidity, bit of toffee. Fizzy carb. Seems very thin for an imperial anything. I guess the alcoholís hidden well but it needs more body especially with all that dark malt. Has lots of promise.

Justice Didactic - Bourbon
Sampled February 2014
A steady pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces an almost, two-finger thick, pale amber tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a dark, quite burnt, amber color that shows a brilliantly clear, rich, but bright amber hue when held up to the light. The nose smells lightly tart, with a sort of cherry like fruitiness, as well as a rounded woodiness, soft vanillin aromatics. there is a touch of soft, caramelized, toasted red cracker maltiness here, as well as a hint of phenolics that lean towards plastic. The fruit character opens up as the beer warms up with notes of currants, tart, floral berries, and perhaps a hint of Bourbon like character that more accentuates the fruitiness here than anything.

Soft textured, but with some prickly bite to it, with a bit of lingering tannic oak like texture to it. The oak provides a soft vanilla note to the finish as well as a touch of spiciness and lingering woodiness. Up front though the beer has a soft acidity to it that is predominantly lactic in character, but has perhaps a touch of acetic character that adds a soft fruitiness rather than the harsh acidic bite that it could otherwise have. Rounded caramelized notes, and a nice toasted, grain-sweet cracker like note melds well with the soft, toasted oak character. There is a suggestion of fruit character here that leans towards cherries, dark concentrated berries, and some oxidized apple notes. There is a bit of oxidation character here that contributes a roundness, and a nuttiness to the malt character, as well as influencing the fruit character that is here.

Better than I was expecting, while most may not be hoping for this, I was quite surprised how mellow the Bourbon barrel aging is, and this is quite a pleasant surprise; it adds a soft vanilin character and a supporting woodiness that has a hint of spiciness to it. Nicely done, and I love that this is not really a Bourbon beer.

Schooner at local bar. Dark amber/copper color. A sweet sticky and toffee beer. Not sickly sweet but strong. Reduced carbonation did not help. Not sign of spices as I drank. As intended, just a bunch of stuff thrown together.

Justice / Charging Hippo Sour Zombie Goliath
On tap at Bottleworks, pours a deep dark reddish brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings out a sweet and sour-like quality, with moderate balsamic, dark fruits, light tartness and a light sweetness. Flavour is very well-balanced, with red berries, moderate tartness, a little vinegar and Worcestershire sauce, and a touch of sweetness. Very well-balanced and quite complex. Excellent.

On tap at Bottleworks, pours a reddish dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings out loads of maple syrup, a touch of smokiness, and caramel. Flavour is along the same lines, showcasing lots of maple syrup upfront, followed by fairly light smokiness, and caramel. A little cloying but pretty decent.

Justice Butterfinger Brown
Draft pour at the Hop and Hound. Happy Halloween haha. Finally, a Halloween beer that doesnít involve pumpkin. Nothing against pumpkin beers, but you know what I mean. At first sip this tastes just like a butterfinger bar, but slowly as I went through this, it was turning into a plain solid brown ale with a nice chocolate and peanut butter background. Sweet caramel malt aroma. The pour almost looked like a nitro pour with the appearance. A lot of swirling brown colors with a creamy head. Finishes sweet and malty. If you are going to brew a candy beer, let it be a delicious chocolate bar over something fruity (no offense local brewery that shall remain nameless. Overall, this was a delicious beer that was super fun to drink. Will look for this again. Loved it.

Justice Pumpkin Pie Sour
22oz bomber poured into Old Wooly snifter. No head on this beer, no matter which glass I tried (shared with friends so many glasses tried). Its a deep amber orange, thick, no clarity by the end of the bottle. There is a little spit like lacing on the surface of the beer. Aroma is beautifully wild with bretty horseblanket that covers up some hidden pumpkin spices underneath that. The pumpkin is well integrated into the wild character oft the beer. Same in flavor. Nicely finished flavor with a citric and tart finish . Short and to the point. Its akin to JPís actual pumpkin but has an actual pumpkin spice character that us well placed in the structure of the beer.

From 22oz bottle to snifter. Pour is a nice black with a beige head that disappeared quick. Nose is huge coffee, mocha, malt, barley. Taste is medium-heavy body that was mostly sour. Finishes super dry on the palate. Not a terrible beer, the dryness really takes away from it however.

Bottle. Pours a near-black color with a moderate light brown head on there. Nose is definitely roasty, with a fair amount of chocolate coming through, and just a bit of some oatmeal, it seems. Bottle. Pours a moderately hazy light amber color with a moderate white head on there. Nose is pretty light for me - I get a slight bit of orange peel, but none of what I would consider a hop character. Taste is a bit bitter, and has an odd gummy flavor I donít particularly care for. Not a fan.

Bottle. Pours a hazy dark golden color with a huge white head on it. I get a little banana and citrus in the nose, as well as the usual yeast of the style. Taste is actually a tad bit sour and has a lot of citrus notes to it. For me, the best part about this beer is the name.

22. Batch 4, bottled 2/3/2014. Pours a cloudy pale yellow with fair carbonation and quickly receding white head. Unconscionable aroma - vomit and bubblegum...really unpleasant. Almost gave up before tasting. Fortunately the flavor is somewhat of an improvement - none of the aromaís offensive character, but nothing very pleasant in its place: earthy, lemon, lightly sweet, sour, dirt.

Justice Belgo Pumpkin
Bottle: † Dirty amber, moderate foamy off-white head, nice lacing. † Herbal aroma, a bit of muted spices. † I sense some minor cinnamon and nutmeg. † Has a mainly earthy background. † Certainly not sharp or bright. † A little tart on the tongue, pale spices, a bit flat, mealy, and herbal. † Moderate body and mouthfeel. † Lightly tart finish, muted spices, mealy, a bit barnish and musty. † Not your traditional Pumpkin Ale as those spices really only come through on the nose, and its very slight. † Different, interesting, well made, but not my thing.   Almost too herbal and earthy for my tastes.

Justice Didactic - Bourbon
Bottle:   Deep dark caramel, dirty, thin to moderate sudsy off-white head, spotty lacing.   Bready nose, caramel malt, woody, some bourbon.   Very sweaty and mealy on the tongue, with only a faint bit of caramel or fruitiness.   Strong dank sweat and cereal notes.   Pretty much the same as the Pinot Noir version.   Interesting, but the wet sock dank mealiness doesnít add to the experience.   Meh...

Justice Didactic - Pinot Noir
Bottle:   Caramel in color, a little darker, thin sudsy off-white head, little lacing.   Caramel and fruit notes on the nose.   Faint vinous aspects.   Tart and sweaty up front, mealy on the backside, light oak, a little vinous like fruitiness.   Not as complex as I would have liked.   A bit too much mealiness if you ask me.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Really mealy and sweaty on the finish, with very faint oak and vinous notes.   Tiz okay, but could do without the sweat and cereal background.

Justice Sour Belgo Pumpkin
Bottle:   Thick orangish straw, dirty, small sudsy white head, little lacing.   Funky barnish nose, slightly spiced but hard to decipher.   Low carbonation up front, a little flat, some breadiness, caramel, sweet musty citrus background, with muted spices.   Not really sour.   Comes across as just a musty spiced ale that didnít stand the test of 4 months too well.   Does feel a bit herbal, woodsy and shrubby at times.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, despite it lacking carbonation.   Finishes a little mealy, shrubby, with barnish and musty spices.   Wished it were more bubbley and brighter with the spices.   A little bizarre for a Pumpkin Ale.

Bottle 40 of 156:   Deep brown, nearly black, large gushing frothy beige head, spotty lacing.   Uh oh, a gusher.   Soft sweet roasted malts, chocolate, and moderate hoppiness on the nose.   Smells decent at least.   Tart up front, a bit of sour raisin, followed by lactic sourness, then soft roasted malts and bakers chocolate.   Guessing by the gushing this was to be expected, the soft sourness.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Sour prune and raisin on the finish.   This didnít last 4 months in the bottle... damnit!   Like most of my other Justice beers, a severe disappointment.
