Houston Hall Reviews

3.2
Houston Hall IPA
Draft at Houston Hall. Pours golden with a white head. Leaves trace lacing in the glass. Big pine on the nose and tongue. Finished clean. It could use some bitterness in the finish because it becomes boring quickly.

Houston Hall IPA
On tap @ Houston Hall. Smells really nice this. Lots of nice piney hoppiness going on here. It’s superbly peachy, like some of the better peachy hopped beers I’ve had actually. Have to say that Houston Hall is impressing me. Tastes really good also. Peachy nectarine with sweet malty traces of biscuits. It’s nice and oily on the texture and about average on the carbonation. It’s really piney and tasty this. No lack of hops here’s. Superbly peachy, traces of mango and papaya. Refreshing and really good. Did not expect at all, so I guess that proofs that prejudice stands to fall. Nice. 15.06.2015

Houston Hall Angry Orchard Apple Cider
On tap @ Houston Hall. This is a clear looking one, goldenish in color but no real head to writhe home about. Smells quite good. Lots of apply apple juices, soft green grades, a trace of pear also. Reminds me of apple cider when I was young without the horrible sugary sweetness that can make the best guy feel nauseous (mildly put). Tastes really good also. Apply as they come. Red apply, mild +sweetness without being sugary. Red grapes. Nice one, lightdrinkable and quenching in the heat. 15.06.2015

Houston Hall Imperial SMASH Saison
On tap @ Houston Hall. This is a mild cloudy bright orange one. A tiny white islandy head on the top. Smells quite good and definitely saison-ish. Ripe fruity, lots of nice funky yeast. Cantaloupe, oranges and grass. Lots of aromas in this. Like how it tastes. This is a sweet kind of saison. It has a nice oily texture and its just below average and stingy on the small bubbles. It tastes quite good this. Imperial indeed as its not hard to identify the alcohol her. Ripe steawberries, pear juices, its really white peppery (could be the alcohol though) and I find this actually quite good. My first one from this brewer and I like it. 15.06.2015

Houston Hall Raspberry Wheat
On tap @ Houston Hall. This one has the exact same color as the first beer I had from this brewer. A cloudy orange-ish body with a small white quickly sidesticking head. The nose gives me lots of butter. Butter and cold brewed coffee. Not at all what youd either expect or want in a raspberry wheat. It has a bit more raspberries in the taste though. Actually its not all that bad as the aroma suggested. Mild raspberry fruity. Its a tad thin perhaps on the texture and average on the carbonation. Soft grassy, green raspberry leafs and a hint of the green coffee beans in the finish. No masterpiece but definitely drinkable. 15.06.2015

Houston Hall Single Hop Pale Ale

Location: Draft at Houston Hall, 12/27/14, Sadly, I wasted my 4100th on this travesty of a beer

Aroma: It has a fairly light aroma of pale malts and mild hops.
Appearance: This one is murky looking and yellowish in color, with a small head, lots of lace.
Flavor: It has an unpleasant, soapy flavor, dish detergent, just not good.
Palate: It has a fairly light body, and an okay mouthfeel.
Overall Impression: This is an okay beer except that flavor, which is kind of crucial. Seriously, flavor matters, and this beer lacks anything good in that department.

Houston Hall Pumpkin Ale

Location: Draft at Houston Hall, 12/27/14

Aroma: Pumpkin spice and nutmeg on the nose, with some light orange zest notes
Appearance: Caramel colored pour with a beige head and some light lace
Flavor: The taste is along the same lines, a semi artificial pumpkin spice flavor is what you get
Palate: It has a pretty good mouthfeel and a medium body, a little sticky on the close
Overall Impression: It is an okay example of the style, but not top notch. One of those beers where the more if it I drank the less I liked it.

Houston Hall IPA

Location: Draft at Houston Hall, 12/27/14

Aroma: Nose of citrus hops mostly, light malty notes.
Appearance: Orange color with a good sized white head.
Flavor: The flavor is citrus as well with a decently bitter finish.
Palate: Easy drinking, with a clean feel on the mouth, and a soft carbonation.
Overall Impression: This is a solid IPA overall. Citrus hops are the dominant component, and it drinks easily and nicely, making it a pretty crushable offering that works well in the beer hall environment.

Houston Hall Peter's Pils
At HH: Pours golden with white head. Herbal hops and corn. Taste is herbal and there is a bunch of corn in there. I don’t think that there is any corn in this, but there is a definitive taste of it in there. This was not good. I think people have really over-rated it here.

Houston Hall Single Hop Pale Ale
At the hall: Pours copper with a white head. Aroma is crap. Taste is roughly the same. This is one of the most foul tasting beers that I have ever had. The hop profile or malt profile or both was just really off. I had to force myself to finish this. I would rather drink Bud (Light).

Houston Hall Baltic Porter
Tap at the Hall. Light smoke, unprocessed cacao aroma. Slight bitterness. Very vegetal flavor, slight carbonic acid, fruity yeast. Tastes like an undetattenuated American porter, not a Baltic at all. Too sweet and fruity.

Mouthfeel is medium to light with notes of bitter, floral hops, grapefruit and a decent amount of malts. Not a huge fan of this, but it was a bit better than the other offerings on draft at the time.
