bottle shared by tom10101 @ rb gathering 2016, mtl. hazy if not cloudy medium dark golden with a nice eggshell white head, reviving and leaving ncie lacing. lots of flowers, flowery citrus, toasted rustic cereals, ancient grains, both fresh and green grassy hops - delicately hopped; some peppery and fruity bretts - at an early stage; dusty, fruity, zesty and spicy zaissohwn yeast, pepper. bright and healthy carbonation, light body; drying citrusy-spicy-peppery finish. pretty solid elderflower saison.

Propolis Achillea Dubbel (2015 Field Series)
I am assuming is the 2016 version on draft at Chucks Cd. Dubbel my ass. Watery brown burnt malts. Effervescent brown syrup. Lightly sweet. Not tart or wild or sour. A little herbal Earl Grey tea. Tastes like homebrew.

Propolis Beltane (2015 GABF Medal)
My Bottom Line:
Honeyed hay, peppery spiciness, dandelions and herbal bitterness intertwine in this captivating farmhouse brew.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A healthy head of foam covers the misty blond opacity.
-Mouthfeel is pleasantly dry and airy.
-The dosage is perfect on all flavor contributors. Great balance throughout.
-Elderflowers blend in beautifully, evoking dandelions, white grapes and all sorts of summery beauty.
-This is a wonderful introduction to this brewery! Need to get to know them better.

Bottle.

Propolis Urtica (2015 Wild Series)
I just had a kid about 19 hours ago. To celebrate my wife’s awesome work and sobriety for close to a year, I went to Chucks to pick her up a Blvd Saison-Brett. Fortunately they have the 2014, batch which is even better. Of course, I had to grab a beer since I am here. So, I went with the most special beer on tap. This is the 2016 version. As per all the other propolis beers, it’s not as good as I want it to be. It’s a bit cidery. I’m not sure what nettles taste like but I may like his novel flavor I’m getting. its not bretty but apple juice sour. A little poop. Lighter beer. Was the base a dubbel? I wouldn’t be able to tell. Murky Lipton tea color. Should have drank something a bit more special for the first beer after a kid. Probably the Blvd sometime soon with the wifey. Let’s make believe I drank that first and this second.

Propolis Fennel (2015 Field Series)
Pours a lightly hazy golden with a small white head that leaves some lacing. Nose is of herbs (fennel?) and generally spicy. Taste is lightly tart and fruity with some light crisp cereals. The fennel is well-integrated to me and adds a nice subtle twist. Pretty dry. Average body and carbonation. A nice fruity saison, I’d certainly drink that one again!

Propolis Fennel (2015 Field Series)
Bottle (750 ml) shared at tasting. Thanks to Thomas for this one! Clear bright orangey-golden with a small white head leaving little lacing. Aroma is quite fennel forward with soap, Saison yeast (?), mild berries, floral notes and a bit of farmhouse character. Taste is mildly tart with fennel - a little too much - a tiny bit of soap, floral notes and very mild bitterness. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Floral finish. The aroma is interesting but the taste gets a bit too intense to be easy drinkable. The tartness level is interesting. Good.

Propolis Gardin (2015 Barrel Series)
Wow. I’ve had this capped and corked bottle for awhile. And this is #1! Anyway, the bottle is from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours copper with a creamy white head. Slightly tart fruit aroma. Sort of a clean fresh thing. Med body at least. Flavor is kind of earthy Brettish with some mixed fruits. Prunus type fruits. Wood astringency is present, and the whole thing is really a sort of laid back tart ale. Dry and tart. I am surprised.

Caramel colored pour. Small off white head. No lacing. Aroma of malt, spices - of which I’m not sure I actually pick out sage. Taste is a somewhat dubbel note, but very lacking. I get more of the wine in here than I should. Tart.

This is a really nicely done wild-ish saidon. It pours cloudy orange w/ a huge head. The nose is especially nice here, very floral and fruity w/ a strong fresh banana character from the yeast. It strikes me as just a little bit tart with a touch of wild character to add interest to the otherwise juicy, slightly sweet character. I can definitely get behind a beer like this.

Tasting at Matt’s
Cloudy golden color. Fresh wood sap aroma, light mint, glue. The body is leaner than expected, it has some residual sweetness, can feel some of the spruce, and this is not what you expect from beer, a bit soapy.
Weird.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark orange with a medium white head. Aroma brings out a lot of the fennel, with considerable anise quality, and some farmhouse notes. Meh.

On tap at Brouwer’s for Big Wood 2015, pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of red berries (though I’m admittedly not that familiar with salmonberries), significant red wine presence and grape must. Flavour is much more dominated by the brett, with a wonderfully harmony between the berries, bretty funk and red wine barrels. Very low residual sweetness - the brett has eaten this up it seems. Complex and wonderfully constructed. Excellent.
