Rat Hole Rye IPA
everything here is color by numbers, as if from a kit, and this is no exception. This is the beer that got me thinking that. Generic and straight played - not bad, but not good.

watery garbage - beer flavored water. WTF? One of the worst craft beers I’ll have this year.

Rat Hole Vanilla Porter
everything here is color by numbers, as if from a kit, and this is no exception. The vanilla alone makes this the most enjoyable beer they have, but still nothing special.

Rat Hole Vanilla Porter
one of my favorites from all the vanillas I have tasted. Only down side is they don’t fill Growlers. It is our always go to spot when we visit Bend.

Rat Hole Vanilla Porter
On Tap at the Bend Brew Pub Deep dark brown, no head or lacing. I had this right next to the fence post and I bet the vanilla added killed the head retention. I think the vanilla is a bit over powering. It shoud be an accent and not featured. Very mild chocolate (probably enhanced by the vanilla) and a touch of coffee. Very soft carbonation. Just OK.

Rat Hole Fence Post Porter
On Tap at the Bend Brew Pub Classic very dark brown. Anothe rof theirs with just a faint thin ring sticking around. Classic roast flavors, earthy and smooth. HInts of coffee. Pretty straight forward. Smooth pallate and a little campfire roast bitter at the end. Solid porter.

Rat Hole Rye IPA
On Tap at the Bend Brew Pub Slightly hazy orange/amber with a soapy head/lacing. LIght toast malts and a big fresh hop bite in teh aroma and flavor. Their other beers were middle of the road but this one really stands out. Very big bitterness and good hoppy flavors. The Rye really kicks in. A bold sharp beer not for the faint of heart. Smooth malty feel and a soft carbonation.

Rat Hole Rotation Red Ale
On Tap at the Bend Brew Pub Dark mahogany, loks more like a brown. Persistant tan ring. Soft toasted malt aroma. Mild malty flavors with just enough hop IBU to balance it. Rather dark and soft and a vbit under hopped for reds that I recall. Nice smooth palate.

On Tap at the Bend Brew Pub hazy light brown orange. Brief head leaving a sandy ring. Malty and a littel fruuty. Nicely balanced. Kind of lands between styles. Im thinking this was the honey pale actually.

Unfiltered appearance makes the beer look nice. The pumpkin spice flavor is less than spectacular.

Rat Hole Fence Post Porter
A brown close to onyx she be. Getting quite close to Stout chewiness, this Porter smells of smoke, oats, earth, vanilla and chocolate. Not too sweet and nicely balanced by the bitterness. This brewery uses fine ingredients and it comes out clearly in the taste and feel of their diverse brews. Props to Rat Hole for all of the fine dark beers in an IPA heavy area of the world.

Rat Hole Rotation Red Ale
A lightly hazy ruddy brown rust colour in the glass. Very malt-forward and relaxing. Nuts, caramel, bread, leather and light citrus in the nose. A fairly good balance of flavours although this Red could use some more hop aggression to scale back the sweet malts. An above average rip into Red realms.

Rat Hole Sickle Bar Saison
Wow, what a great looking Saison! Very cloudy, opaque light straw colour with a thin ivory head. Lively carbonation presents scents of cloves, nutmeg, lemon, honey, barnyard and floral and citrus hops. Feels nice and crisp on the tongue and sweet, sour and spicy taste is well blended for a fine foray into French territory. Very enjoyabeer.

Rat Hole Summer Lemon Wheat Ale
This beer was pretty great and one of my favourite Wheat Beers going. Honestly, these guys don’t get the credit they deserve but it will come with time if they keep it up. A quite hazy rusty orange with a thin white head. Good crisp carbonation and lively feel. You can really taste and smell the lemon and wheat and they are excellently balanced. Honey, caramel, light straw and bread come out as well. So refreshing, might have to throw "Session" into the title...

Rat Hole Haystack Hazelnut
Another fine beer from Rat Hole. These guys are fairly new to Bend and right out of the gate they prove themselves with some more left-of-centre styles like this Hazelnut Porter. I read that they use real Hazelnuts as well and it is expressed in the truly nutty flavour. Lots of caramel, cocoa and coffee scent in this big browner but mostly the titular hazelnuts. Quite sweet but I enjoy and expect that from a nut-flavoured Porter style beer. A creamy and lightly syrupy mouthfeel surely add to the dessert-beer feel of this beauty.

Rat Hole Peppermint Chocolate Porter
Such a cool idea for a Christmas beer. It is a new beer taste to me and the Porter style fit it well. Poured a dark molasses brown with a tan head. Lots of peppermint along with chocolate, dark coffee, burnt bread, brown sugar and vanilla in the aromatics. Sweet enough to be a treat but bitter enough to enjoy without being dessert in a cup. More of a novelty beer but so glad I got to try it, perfect for the Winter. Nice mid/heavy mouthfeel with soft carbonation.

Rat Hole Vanilla Porter
HQT night. Draft at Brewery. This is a very good vanilla porter. I think the color was appealing, Not overpowering vanilla aroma or after taste, but it was certainly there. Just a hint of chocolate....much less bold tastes than the house Porter...Fencepost. I would drink the fencepost first, but this beer has nothing to be embarrassed about.
