Beer Army Heroes Never Die!!!
This is a backlog rating from a bottle in 2015, from notes. I took notes on every beer that I had, but didn't rate most because they were below average to average and my time was better spent with family or work. Technology, or the lack thereof, also contributed to the backlog. Words to describe this beer are toasted pale malts, caramel, faded hops, ok.

Average IPA with a copper color and light body. Maltiness was mid-level with a decent hoppiness. Nothing unique.

On tap at Beer Army Burger Company. 10 oz pour in tulip glass. A 1" tan head falls quickly. Color is dark brown/black. Rich aroma of alcohol, chocolate, dark roasted malt. Mouthfeel is thick and astringent. Flavors of chocolate, bready malt, earthy malts. Enjoyed but alcohol presence is very noticeable is aroma and taste.

Blah. Pours ok w/ nearly no aroma & a pretty bland taste. It’s drinkable but not necessarily enjoyable. It’s somewhat watery & just doesn’t carry enough of a flavor profile to make this any good! Not recommended!

Beer Army Heroes Never Die!!!
On tap at Beer Army in New Bern, NC. Pours golden yellow with a very leggy white head. Really leggy. Aroma is not much. Some hops. Taste is a bit weak. Not much citrus but grass and bitter hops with a bit of pine. Somewhat of a malty backbone. Mediocre IPA.

Beer Army Zero Dark Thirty
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that lasted and produced very good lacing. Medium to heavy complex toasted aroma. Medium to abundant body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a very good beer.

Beer Army Zero Dark Thirty
22 oz. bottle picked up at Appalachian Vintner shared with the group. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, dark chocolate, some coffee, earthy hops with a splash of resin, some sweetness popped in and unfortunately a hint of oxidation was showing, overall this was a 10% beer from a new brewery so all is good with this one.

Beer Army Zero Dark Thirty
Tasted from a 22oz bottle. Very dark brown color. Thin khaki head. Short ropes of lace. Wonderful earthy, mild piney hop. Great malt character... Awesome dark chocolate, some coffee, roast malt. Nice spicy character, definitely seems like some rye in here, which works great. Medium to bigger body. Kind of chewy. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Mild dry. Awesome long earthy roasty aftertaste. Moderate to bigger bitter taste. Lighter sweet. Mild dry. Mild warmth. Touch off, bit of butterscotch. Only really started noticing it towards the end, but once it got in my head... Geez, couldn’t get it out. Kind of works with the malt, though. but overall, very nice double black IPA. Been a while since I had a decent one.

Beer Army Fat Cow Brown Ale
This is the last "Beer Army" beer I will buy. I've been seduced by their low "clearance" prices at my local liquor store a number of times (side note: this beer has been marked clearance for months and yet new bottles continually arrive? They didn't have Fat Cow before, but all of a sudden here it is). This beer is similar to their porter in that it's dark and carbonated like a cola. Looks kind of attractive in the glass with a light brown foamy head but the problems start with the aroma, which is basically a mess of mixed signals. The problems persist into the taste and mouthfeel.. There's either too much going on, or not enough, I can't tell. Either way, it's not good. 3 bucks for 1 pint, 6floz seems like a good deal, but there are so many better ways to get drunk off better tasting alcohol. Don't pull this out for guests and pass it off as a craft beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bottle. Small beige head atop black body with brown edge. Aroma is moderately sweet, molasses, milk chocolate, some roast, light anise, alcohol burn. Taste is moderately sweet, roast, milk chocolate, some earthy/grapefruit, molasses. Medium-full body, some sticky. Not bad, but don’t see how this has IPA in its description.

Beer Army Battle of Brock's Mill
Location: 22 oz bottle from State Line, 7/30/15

Aroma: The nose has a light smoke, lots of wet wood, peat, dark berry, and a bit of dirt
Appearance: It pours a reddish-brown color with a small tan head and average lacing
Flavor: The fruitiness comes out more in the flavor, fairly sweet, lightly smoky, and mildly bitter
Palate: The body is light-medium, a hint thin, but not terribly so, overly fizzy, with a short duration
Overall Impression: The more I drink of this one, I keep coming back to that wet wood. It really reminds me of a log right after a rainstorm. Not sure how to feel about that. It’s kind of lacking in smoke as well, and a bit thin, but it isn’t incredibly flawed or anything. I’ve had plenty better, but this is drinkable.

Pours a hazy ruby color with very little head but a good amount of fizz. Smell has classic sour beer characteristics. Oddly, taste is hardly sour at all, and the hibiscus and honey come out fragrant, but also mellow and mild, and not as sweet as I would have thought. It’s a surprisingly dry, floral brew with a thin texture and some biting carbonation. Too bad these brewers went under.

Blind tasted, pour from a bottle into a snifter. Clear brown with tan head. Aroma is slightly medicinal earthy tree roots (lets call it woodsy). Flavor is nutty, pizza dough, metallic bitter hop. Malty leather finish. Flavor reminds me of the aroma of a high end men’s shoe store (Gucci, John Lobb, Church). The lingering flavor is not offensive; malty, molasses and vanilla.

Beer Army Rebellious Patriot
Hardly rebellious, this about as run of the mill as a craft beer can get. Definitely a gateway beer, this Patriot is content to ride its lightly wheaty malt backbone to a weak watery finish. Slight grassiness lays a supporting role in the otherwise barren hop profile. This beer army is better off calling for a full retreat!

From the February 2015 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small foamy tan head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was piney, furity and somewhat bitter with an undertone of anise. The flavor was bitter, a bit roasty, fruity and floral hops, anise, pine and a bit of malt. Medium length finish. Medium body. Ok.

Aroma: It has a grainy/bready aroma to go along with some light grassy notes
Appearance: It pours a clear golden color with a fizzy off-white head, and very light lacing
Flavor: Similar flavor, with some sweet malts, lots of grains, and a light, clean bitterness
Palate: The body is light-medium, it has a lively carbonation, and a clean, dry finish
Overall Impression: Well damn, if I didn’t score this a freaking 3.0 before seeing the other reviews. That is a weird coincidence if I’ve ever seen one. Seriously, as the fourth rater of this beer, it would put me exactly on average to give this a 3.0 (as all three previous raters gave it the exact same score), and somehow, without noticing, that is exactly what I did. I should have changed it to a 2.9 or a 3,1, but this is just too perfect.
