Growler shared by one of the Brewers. You go birdmachine! Pours clear golden, medium off-white head, disispates slowly leaving good lacing behind. Aroma is dank pot, pine, passtionfruit, melon, hints of onion from the Simcoe. Flavor is light plus bitter, light sweet, pretty dank with tropical and onion notes. Medium body, oily mouthfeel. Solid IPA for those who like íem dank. Congrats man!

Quite respectable. It seemed more like a stout then a porter to me, but thatís no bad thing.

Santa Clara Valley Valley Surprise Double IPA
Bomber from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. The beer begins clear golden but the final pour brought yeast sediment and some haze. A big beige head. That classic west coast hop aroma. All kinds of fruit, peach syrup and honey. The flavor begins with a big bitterness that does not go away. Complex fruit, just all over the place. Pine and honeysuckle. Caramel and yeast come later. Unlike Ron, I didnít taste the alcohol but sure did feel it! This beer was classic and pretty much faultless. I liked it. Also, it took me 3 times to type that last sentence!

The beer was shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. As usual we each had the same beer and opened 1500 miles apart. Only 1500 miles instead of 2000 as I am in Idaho skiing. Anyway on to the beer. It poured into my pint shaker an amber gold with a dinghy white head. Nose is grapefruit and pine. Body is medium to full and the mouth feel is both resinous and alcoholic . Flavor is rich caramel malts and the hops and malts are in good balance with tastes being mostly peach, pine, grapefruit, and goodness knows what else showing. The finish is quite bitter and dry. Overall this is a very nice beer, very tasty, and solid. Not all DIPAs are this good. I liked this one a lot. A whole lot.

500ml bottle. Tart lemon cherry with oaky horse blanket notes. Kind of flat. Fruit is present, but not really identified as cherries. Light tartness, faint oak, brett...although not very strong. Not bad, just not much depth or complexity.

Turbid hazy light orange pour no head or lace. Looks still. Nose of poopy Brett and cherry funky lemon notes there too. Poopy tangy seltzer with cherry notes underneath. Light medium cherry finish. Funky with a little sour. Way too seltzery. Not bad.

Santa Clara Valley °oS Imperial Oatmeal Stout
On draft at Caps & Taps. It pours dark brown with a light brown head. The aroma is nice with dark chocolate, hints of coffee and dried figs. Maybe a touch of vanilla. The flavor is very rich with heavy roasted malt, some black malt bitterness and dirty ash in the finish. More fig and dates with some dry oak-like notes. Rich chocolate. Powerful stuff. A bit heavy on the black malt for my tastes.

500mL bottle, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is odd, with boozy acetic wine barrels, apricots and some funk. Flavour is unusual, with white wine barrels, acetic notes and feint apricots. Some weird vegetal and sweaty quality to it. Not elegant - itís got a very strange mix of flavours that isnít cohesive. Not overly harsh, but not pleasant.

65 cl bottle @ hotel room, San Diego.
Pours hazy yellow color with a small head. Way too stuffy aroma, lots of sweet fruits, resinous hops, caramel malts and some grain. Sweet flavor, hops, resin, caramel and grapefruit. Extremely heavy fruits, not very easy to drink. On another day I might like this easy more, but not this is just way too stuffy and sweet heavy.

22 bomber to cervoise. Pours clear gold, dissipated beige head. Aroma is not as strong as label suggested...hmmm...light blend of trop fruit, grapefruit rind and pine. Taste is much more potent. Upront is booze, pale malts, citrus peel, pine wood, and more booze. Absolutely no malt backbone besides some flavor. Incredibly unbalanced towards hops...which is kind of impressive for a 9.0 abv, but there is a lot of booze in the entire palette. Super dry finish.

Very nicely done lambic from a local favorite brewery. This beer was made at Hermitage Brewing which has a very solid sour program. Almanac is also produced there. As a Kriek, the Heartís Delight is well balanced beer with very intense notes of fruit that is locally sourced. A true farm to bottle product from an up and coming brewery and is an example of the Mstr Brewer, Steve Donohueís experience in the industry.

Is this named for Jake Peralta of "Brooklyn 99"? No? Bummer. Draft pours very dark brown color with a one-finger tan head. The aroma is roasty with chocolate and coffee. The flavor is nice and earthy, very balanced with both caramel as well as chocolate/roast. Nicely hopped. The body is medium-plus and carbonation is on the softer side. Surprisingly impressive. Would drink again.

Santa Clara Valley Brewing from San Jose sounds like your crappy local brewery thatís likely to elicit either uncontrollable yawning fits or exclamations of "F*** THAT NOISE!!!" San Jose is seriously the most boring city in the world, even more boring than the town of Boring, Oregon or a drill bit that is literally BORING into the ground. The plants in San Jose actually use borophyll to extract boredom from the sunlight. Needless to say, I must say I didnít expect much. Well, itís good they donít revoke your ticking license for calling it wrong (although they may revoke it for logging just 180 official ticks in 2014, which is pathetic). Anyway, I was wrong. On to the beer. Iím going to use the breweryís own words and call the appearance an "exquisite cinnabar color." It is just that. Crystal clear and deep. A beautiful one-finger head rises to the top, fading gradually up your schnozz one pop at a time. The aroma is pleasant, with caramel, dried fruit, and grapefruit. The flavor is sweet but balanced. Bready and caramel malt gives way to a citrusy and piney hop finish. Medium bitterness. Fairly full body, with the hefty 10% ABV extremely well-hidden. The carb level is exactly where youíd want it to be. The best thing to come out of San Jose? Maybe, but thatís not saying much.
