Wood Buffalo Babe Blueberry Vanilla Ale
Valemount 18/7 2018. 35,5 cl can from the Wine Merchant in Jasper. A shop sporting a bizarre range of beers so why not a Blueberry Vanilla Ale?! A somber cow on the can. Pours clear amber with medium-sized pink head. Settles as thin almost transparent layer of foam crawling up the side of the glass. Moderate lacing. Aroma is intensely sweet and somewhat artificial. Air refresher from the toilet, white sugar, vanilla extract and edelweiss. Medium carbonation. Thin, watery texture. Flavor is heavy sweet. Almost no bitterness present. Aftertaste is sweet and cloying. A pretty unpleasant experience unless you are into putting those things you use to camouflage the natural odors of a toilet visit into your mouth. No tart fruitiness from berries only artificial vanilla.

Aroma is caramel, honey, citrus and a slight earthiness. Taste is caramel, light hints of cream and a both earthy and slightly funky finish. The oil addition is noticable and add a nice vegetal finish.

Aroma is vanilla, caramel and honey. Taste is a nice mellow balance of sweet malts and blueberries. The blueberry sweetness doesn't consume the palate which is nice. A nice patio beer. Better than expected.

Not for me; too sweet and vanilla isn't my jam. Pours a slight red with a frothy off white head. The nose is fruity, slight pastry note. Sweet, fruity, light tartness. Very monotone.

Extremely mild; light grassy and floral notes. A bit of citrus intrigue with almost no bitterness. Finishes dry at least with a straw and grainy malt profile. Nice refreshing brew that suites its purpose well.

Wood Buffalo Black Gold Stout
Rating #2148 - 2015.11.04 - Draught @revolutionyeg - Dark, dark brown/black pour with a weak tan foam that bubbles away super quickly. Aroma is earthy roast malts, coffee, and caramel. Taste is roast malts, with a hint of caramel and molasses. Oatmeal character shines in the finish, and brings balance to the beer. Low-medium carbonation, and on point for style. Decent.

Rating #1888 - 2015.09.12 - #EBGARAF2015 - Clear golden amber pour with a bubbly white head. Aroma is grapefruit juice. On the palate, tons of grapefruit soda sweetness - pretty decent carbonation. A juicy sweet cask, but decent bitterness for the concept.

Rating #1756 - 2015.06.24 - On tap @revolutionyeg. Clear golden amber pour with a weak, white head that bubbles away to a ring. Aroma is strong with hoppy overtones, grapefruit, citrusy, toasted malt. Taste is more of the same, dry hops and roast malts dominating the flavour, with a hint of sweetness. Finish is dry, but balanced and satisfying. Tasty

14oz draft at Joey Sherwood. The colour was orange, hazy. Nice looking creamy white cap with sticky long lasting lacing. Aromas of citrus, caramel, grain, fruity. Taste had caramel malt, fruity tones and good citrus. Grapefruity bitter finish. Sot and nice overall. I had three of these while I was there...

Wood Buffalo Cascadian Dark Ale
Guest tap @ Last Best in Calgary. Dark brown with Amber highlights and a dirty beige head that leaves sheets of lace. Aroma is black malts and overripe tropical fruits (this combo always makes me think of pig manure). The palate delivers the same, in a nice balance, with a firm bitter finish. Big body for only 5.3%. Nice brew, I’d like to try more from these guys.

Pours a hazy orangish amber with an frothy off white head that leaves lots of lacing. Aroma of citrus, pine, caramel malts and graininess. Taste is citrus peel, pine, caramel sweetness, unfermented wort sweetness, grainy and fruity esthers. Overall a nice drinkable ipa that has some noticeable flaws... One it’s balanced towards malts for an American ipa and 2 the fruity yeast esthers. Eliminate this stuff and we have a great ipa.

Aroma is sweet Canadian grain with a touch of honey, caramel and citrus. Very slight hints of coriander. Taste is very light malt flavor with a sweet and dry crisp finish. A tad of clove bitterness on finish. Well balanced overall and a good session beer. A safe palate but nothing earth shattering. Appearance is a clear straw hue with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well.

Pint on tap at Beer Revolution’s Edmonton location pours a copper color with a finger of off-white head that leaves some thick soapy lacing on the glass. Aroma is citrus and pine with some hints of grains. Taste is a citrus and pine hop bitterness with a light fruity and malty sweetness. Slightly grainy mouth feel. Quite hoppy but still balanced and tasty. Much better than I anticipated.

Trying at Edmonton Craft Beer Fest. Wow. A great IPA. The nice guy at the booth says is is only available on location which is sad. I’d peg this at 70ish IBUs - a well balanced and tasty IPA. Lots of layers of hop and citrus flavors.
