5 Stones Beary’s Porridge
Pours brown with a bit if white head that fades fastish to a lace. A bit of a reddish hue along the edge. Blackberry like aroma. Taste is fruity with some earthy flavors. Fruit is the strongest. Pinch of sweetness. Dry, crisp but not insanely. Really nice beer.

5 Stones Barrel Reserve Sleepy Hollow
Kind of mediocre beer. For a smoked, spicy, barrel aged beer, there was a surprising lack of zing from any of the special ingredients. Not much more than a hint of any. Courtesy of mom and dad in 2016.

Nice blend and good to drink it fresh. Aromas and flavors of citrus hops, definite grapefruit with a slight harshness but not unfriendly. Corriander seemed to even it out some. Cloudy light golden color. Full palate and nicely carbonated.

I think rum was a great barrel choice for aging this beer. Bourbon would have made it too sweet and probably cover up the subtler smoky/spicy notes. The rum adds a bit of liquor bite and woodiness without competing.

Yet another interesting, tasty concoction from 5 Stones. Pours a hazy pinkish orange with a thin white head. Aroma of citrus, yeast and faint cinnamon. Taste is similar with a light sourness, perhaps from the cranberries?

Merry Christmas indeed! Dark amber with a small tan head. Smells and tastes like Christmas with cinnamon and other spices complimenting caramel malt and maybe even a touch of pine. Or maybe that was just the Christmas tree.

5 Stones Fracking Blackstrap
750 ml bottle. Label has a pen mark of #2 /2015. Very dark brown, almost black color, thin white head. Aroma is shoe leather, molasses and very deep notes of hops.

Flavor shows a stupid amount of bitterness. It’s like a Black IPA gone wrong. Overly bitter and astringent. Notes of smoke. Bitter coffee. The chocolate is here but a total lack of vanilla beans. What the hell is this? Purchased this at Jester King and carried this home from Texas. This was stored properly in my basement since the purchase, huge disappointment.

Bottle at home, purchased at Jester King. Pours a murky reddish brown, a bit of white head with little retention. Aroma is light blackberry, a bit of grain, faint basil and herbs. I get some sweet notes from the molasses as well as some chocolate and roasted malt. There is also a hint of maple and vanilla. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Nice beer.

5 Stones Norma Jeane Blonde Ale
750 ml bottle purchased at Jester King, Austin Texas. Batch number 5 of 2015 written in pencil on the side of the label. Amber like color with thin bubbly head. Right from the pour of the bottle I could smell natural strawberry. Also just a light amount of herbal hints.

Taste shows mild strawberry throughout with hints of pale malt and grains. Body is light with a slightly lingering herbal hints. Maybe over ripe Berry. Overall not bad but I don’t find vanilla any place in this brew. Maybe the fruit is a bit to ripe. Side note: this is my 100th Texas state beer rating.
