I think rum was a great barrel choice for aging this beer. Bourbon would have made it too sweet and probably cover up the subtler smoky/spicy notes. The rum adds a bit of liquor bite and woodiness without competing.

5 Stones Home for the Holidays 3.6
Yet another interesting, tasty concoction from 5 Stones. Pours a hazy pinkish orange with a thin white head. Aroma of citrus, yeast and faint cinnamon. Taste is similar with a light sourness, perhaps from the cranberries?

5 Stones Merry Christmas 3.8
Merry Christmas indeed! Dark amber with a small tan head. Smells and tastes like Christmas with cinnamon and other spices complimenting caramel malt and maybe even a touch of pine. Or maybe that was just the Christmas tree.

Very good hefe with subtle fruity (not specifically pomegranate) and toasty (not specifically coconut) notes. I’d love move coconut but this is still mighty fine.

5 Stones Melo Rainbow 3.1
Pretty sure this is the first cantaloupe beer I’ve run across. It comes through more in the aroma than the taste. Interesting but not my favorite.

I run and jump, play and sing .. . gold .. good size head, lacing is ample .. . overly sweet melon, cantaloupe rind, honey, very dirty melon baller, yeast . . very hard to get into, just sweet and messy .. a rare miss from 5 stones .. . . I just want to be old enough to wave my cane at a bus and make it stop for me.

5 Stones Fracking Blackstrap 2.9
750 ml bottle. Label has a pen mark of #2 /2015. Very dark brown, almost black color, thin white head. Aroma is shoe leather, molasses and very deep notes of hops.

Flavor shows a stupid amount of bitterness. It’s like a Black IPA gone wrong. Overly bitter and astringent. Notes of smoke. Bitter coffee. The chocolate is here but a total lack of vanilla beans. What the hell is this? Purchased this at Jester King and carried this home from Texas. This was stored properly in my basement since the purchase, huge disappointment.

5 Stones I’ll Be Your Basilberry 2.9
Bottle at home, purchased at Jester King. Pours a murky reddish brown, a bit of white head with little retention. Aroma is light blackberry, a bit of grain, faint basil and herbs. Light sweetness and faint tartness. Taste is light berry, yeast, a bit of pepper and malt. Not much basil, a bit earthy. A bit bland. I was expecting more flavor or tartness. Medium body, medium carbonation. Kinda a letdown.

This bottle was perfectly carbed, Pours a very dark brown to black color with a smallish tan head. The aroma has some big bitter chocolate notes as well as some dark molasses. The flavor is similar. I get some sweet notes from the molasses as well as some chocolate and roasted malt. There is also a hint of maple and vanilla. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Nice beer.

5 Stones Norma Jeane Blonde Ale 3.1
750 ml bottle purchased at Jester King, Austin Texas. Batch number 5 of 2015 written in pencil on the side of the label. Amber like color with thin bubbly head. Right from the pour of the bottle I could smell natural strawberry. Also just a light amount of herbal hints.

Taste shows mild strawberry throughout with hints of pale malt and grains. Body is light with a slightly lingering herbal hints. Maybe over ripe Berry. Overall not bad but I don’t find vanilla any place in this brew. Maybe the fruit is a bit to ripe. Side note: this is my 100th Texas state beer rating.

750mL bottle shared by AirForceHops. Thanks, Chris! Batch 5 of 2015. Pours reddish orange gold with an off white head. Aroma is slightly turned strawberries. Flavor is slightly turned strawberry over Belgian blond. Black pepper in the finish. Good name, good label, but the product inside is a let down.

Bomber. Thanks, Nate. Very unusual nose of citrus zest, celery, yeast, and white pepper -- almost like a nasal spray effect. Light straw color. Wheaty initial, with tangerine zest, pepper, light orange juice, and light bittering infinish. Thin-medium body. Unusual and intense aromas. The citrus zest is astounding. Flavors mix citrus and a light vegetal character. Unique.

Aroma is sweet pineapple and very slight jalapeño. Taste is the same, but with more jalapeño kick. Lovely. The bady is medium, but the mouthfeel is poor, as it’s hardly carbonated. I have no idea how old this botle is. Would love to try it fresh.
