Herrmannsdorfer Schweinsbräu Weihnachtsbier
Bottle, Biomarkt Garching. Pretty amber with a few suspended floaties and low tan cream. Roast caramel and spice aroma. Medium to full body, mellow mouthfeel, caramel sweetness, lemon-balm, citrus, herbal grassy notes, pepper and allspice, some minerals/salt. Good balance actually despite being so caramelly initially. Pleasant winter-warmer.

Bottle bought at Herrmannsdorfer, drunk watching some green suited superhero shoot arrows. Big plopp, clear brown with a big light tan head. Roasted malt nose with a hint of sweetness, promising. Tastes much less full bodied, roast malt on the middle fading to slightly astringent emptiness on the aftertaste. Maybe too high mash temp; not enough flavor from hops.

Dark umber color with a seemingly fizzy tan head. Aromas seem a bit grainy and meaty. Why use those terms? I just fed the dog her Iams Mini Chunks, and this does seem to have a similar scent. Toasted malt, grains, caramel and hints of silage. Thicker feel. Flavors of caramel and mild dark breads. 3/12

Burnt orange pour with tall pillowy off white head that has good retention. Aroma is banana, toast, spiciness and booziness. Flavor is banana, bubblegum, toast, cardboard oxidization and an odd acidity that doesn’t taste quite right.Medium body, high carbonation and dry finish. Not very good, sloppy, oxidized and possibly infected.

Decent dunkel. Aroma was big and delicious. Strong malt backbone with fresh baked bread and caramel. Pour was a hazy dark brown with a thin off white ring for a head. Taste was OK. Heavy roasted malt and caramel flavors with notes of toffee in the finish. Little to no carbonation is what hurt this beer. A little bubbles would’ve taken this beer a long way

This is my third in a row from this brewery and I am quite excited it is not terrible. This one actually smells and tastes like a German beer style. It pours a nice chestnut bronw w/ a fine-bubbled, large but short-lived head. It smells of caramel, cherries and a bit of almond along w/ some alcohol heat, which is strange for a low-gravity brew. This is mildly sweet with mild carbonation, which brings out some more nutty oxidized character. I suspect this may be either old, poorly brewed or mistreated but it actually worked out OK in this particular bottle. I would actually probably buy this again if I had any certainty that this beer actually normally tasted like this and I didn’t just have some random good luck w/ a bottle w/ beneficial oxidation.

This is some garbage. Bought fresh to the best of my knowledge and just flabby and crappy tasting. It is brown orange and headless. It smells kind of like caramel and earth. It is sticky sweet and overcarbonated. A touch of tartness and a bit of a fruity character is the only real resemblance to a hefeweizen it has. I was kind of hoping this would be a cookie cutter hefeizen in a goofy bottle but it’s just nonsense.

This just showed up on my local’s shelf but tastes old and gross already. Not sure whose fault that is but there is no date on the bottle so it’s not mine. This pours a hazy golden color and nearly headless. It has a grassy earthy hop character and that is about all it has going for it--and that is not much. This is too sweet and sluggish and heavy on the palate. I figured this was a novelty so it would not be great but this is pretty well terrible. While it is not actively off putting there are some so many flavor problems that it’s impossible to overlook them. Don’t know how this stuff tastes in its own country but do not buy it in the US.
