Dark, nearly black pour with generous head that slowly dissipates. Itís nearly unscented. Decent carbonation level. As far as taste, this brew really didnít have any outstanding qualities. Itís a fair porter, just not one I would visit often.

Urban Legend Barrel Aged Cold War
Blue wax bomber from the 4/15/16 release. 175/200. Black pour, slight beige head, aroma is well whiskey and roast. First sip and my though was ítastes like they used sh*tty Koval barrels. That was before reading the label which confirmed that. Not sure why breweries continue to use those small super young barrels. The resulting beer always has a cheap, harsh overly boozy whiskey flavor with plenty of acetone. Underneath that the was some nice roasty and dark fruit but the barrel treatment killed it. Mouthfeel was decent, creamy and silky but thatís about as far as I can go to compliment it. I donít know how a brewery can taste this and put it in a bottle and justify $25. The entire batch should have been dumped. Theyíve either never tried a good ba stout or think they are fooling people that havenít. Buy some better barrels and try again.

Urban Legend Cold War
On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and snifter served displaying a black/brown hue with a fingerís width of tan head foam that didnít last too long, leaving some spots & ribbons of light lacing on the glass. The nose was roasted, mocha notes, with some caramel sweetness and vanilla. Medium to full bodied, with moderate carbonation, the taste continued the aroma notes, added some dark fruit, hefty alcohol presence, and included a roasted & earthy bitterness that combined with a finishing tartness. Pretty tasty, but a pricey pour.

12 oz glass at U. L., $7. Strong smell is intoxicating, yet smooth, perhaps some oatmeal in the grist. Black Ale still offers a bit of brown highlights, and a thin tan head. Taste combines the best of a coffee liquer and a fine motor oil. Thatís a coffee roast, of course, with notes of vanilla and just a little stout sourness. A bit of astringent malt aftertaste can be a bit of a detraction. Overall, though, a fine impy stout experience that suits sitting at the end of the Taproom bar as well as it does shopping at home during a cold, snowy evening.

On tap at Lunar Brewing Co. and snifter served, displaying a fairly clear, ambered gold color, with a fingerís width of soft white head foam, and doily-like cling to the lacing. The aroma was slightly dank at first, then malty sweet, almost candy-like, dried/pit fruit, with some citrusy notes. The taste showed booze and some Barleywine nature up front, then citrus, and maybe a little resin, less sweetness than the nose, and an earthy, rind-like bitterness that also projected some citrusy astringency, and lingered in tandem with the alcohol warmth. Medium+ bodied, and somewhat dry finishing, with maybe a bit of amped malt impression, but fairly good "IPA balance".

Poured from the bomber, brown with red hue, white collar, smells like hops and booze. I have to say Iím a big fan of strong red ale and Sanford and son so these two things being brought together is very exiting to me, very reminiscent of champagne and ripple being mixed to make cham-pipple!? Or Aunt Esterís face and cookie dough being brought together to make gorilla cookies. I miss Redd Foxx, he was my hero growing up. Make a beer to salute George Jefferson and Iíll buy that too!

Urban Legend Downtime Raspberry Coffee Milk Stout
Debut at their Day of the dead party. The coffee and raspberry are right up front in the nose. Dark body in a plastic cup, very little carbonation. Thatís apparent in the taste, too. Just a few bubbles on the tongue, and the fruit remains right up front on the palate. Coffee is bitter of course, but resolves with the roasty malt to provide a nice chocolate edge.

Urban Legend Wail of the Banshee Hoppy Irish Red
9 oz. draft at Lunar Brewing Co., showing a clear, reddish mahogany color, with a fairly persistent, frothy hat of tan foam, and wavy lacing. The nose was lightly sweet & malty, with esters more as dried & pit fruit. Medium bodied, with decent carbonation, and a subtle creaminess to the mouthfeel, the taste was similar notes as the aroma, with hop bitterness that was an even keeled blend of earth & rind, and a touch of alcohol warmth. Obviously heftier than most Irish Ales in the abv department,(thus the snifter serving) but flavorful, and nicely balanced.

Itís heavy, almost like you are chewing on it. The alcohol bite never goes away. Definitely a sipper.

On tap at Urban Legend. Obviously not black, but. A very dark brown color with a small tan head. Aroma is very fruit with a lot of malt. Doesnít smell all that hoppy. Taste is very malty up front, and then you get a very fruity hop character. Not bitter, just very fruity. Lingering fruity taste. After a few sips, a lot of toffee comes through. Urban Legend The Creature
On the bomberís label itís called "The Creature Black IPA." íTíaint black. Itís got a dark mahogany body with a creamy tan head. It smells of citrusy hops with a touch of pine over some dark caramel. The flavor lightens up so far as the malt is concerned, some toast, but the brew is quite hop-centric. Pine and yellow grapefruit shine through along with a sturdy zest and crunched pip bitterness. Iím not a big fan of the style, but this Black IPA works for me... Still enjoying the prolonged bitter finish.

Pouring a somewhat hazy golden amber body with a slender eggshell head, this ale has an aroma thatís about hops - grapefruit, zest, some pine, and a touch of the floral. A soft grainy sweetness comes out after a while. The malt tastes both grainy and fruity (apple? really?), but the hops soon take over. The zesty bitterness is solid, lasting long into the dry finish. Pretty decent offering from UL:, well worth repeating.
