4.5 Petaluma Hills Tripel J Hazy Orange/Gold with a big white head. Smells just like Westmalle Tripel - dusty with candy sugar notes. Flavor is amazing with light malts, candy sugar and beeswax. High carbonation, medium bodied with a dry finish. Wow, I can’t believe this is a local beer! Thursday, April 20, 2017

3.4 Petaluma Hills Porterluma Black with a brown head. No initial aroma, but some nuttiness and toffee come out after warming a bit. Roasted grain flavor. Very dry no real maltiness. Light bodied for the style though otherwise not unbalanced. Saturday, April 15, 2017

3.3 Petaluma Hills Dated 1858 On tap at Brewster. Pours a copper color with a bit of head. Lots of malt and some date sugar flavor. They seem to clash a little with the hop profile. Saturday, March 18, 2017

4.1 Petaluma Hills Line & Twine IPA Golden with a fine white head. Interesting aroma, wet leaves, earthy, mango. Malty with moderate bitterness. Full bodied. A unique flavorful IPA. Definitely worth seeking out! Thursday, March 16, 2017

3.4 Petaluma Hills Old Adobe Stout Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a black color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace leaving some sly lace. The aroma had some smoke, ash/char and roasted malts. Some nuts eventually come out. The flavor leads with the roasty to char-like taste. Some smoke comes out. Mainly a roasty/char aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation. ABV felt fine as the brewer projected. Overall, pretty good Irish dry stout that I could have again. Tuesday, March 7, 2017

2.5 Petaluma Hills Dated 1858 Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a muddy brown color with a thin off white foamy head. Mild stringy lace. The aroma had some malt, husk, and grain up front. Assorted dark fruits. Grassy hops. The flavor was semi-sweet with a cereal sort of flakiness. Extremely low bitterness. Cereal/husk/grainy aftertaste with the same sort of finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Fairly low carbonation. ABV felt decent. Overall, extremely weird IPA. I’m left scratching my beard on this one. Monday, March 6, 2017

3.8 Petaluma Hills Rivertown Brown Poured into a mug, the appearance was a soft muddy brown color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head. Dissipates slowly. Nice stringy lace. The aroma had some milk chocolate up front touching some sweet wheat. Grassy hops provide a light bitterness. The flavor balances decently between the malts and hops. Adds in a touch of earthiness. Subtle nuts blend with the malts and hops in the aftertaste. Finish is somewhat dry. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation. ABV felt as projected. Overall, good English styled brown ale and that ABV helps make this one slammable. I would have again. Monday, March 6, 2017

2.7 Petaluma Hills Pumpkin Patch Traffic Jam Ale Had on tap and thought because it was Fall I’d go for it. Decent aroma but can’t get over it being pumpkin. I probably shouldn’t rate this because for a pumkin I’m sure others who like pumpkin would say it’s alright, I just cant do it. Maybe if it were a bit on the sweeter side and not leave me with dry mouth, I’d be more open to it. Pumpkin just needs to stay out of beer. My opinion only. Saturday, October 1, 2016

3 Petaluma Hills Red Tag Ale Draft at the brewery, served in a flight. Pours a clear reddish orange color with a moderate off-white head. Notes of toasted and caramel, tea, lemon, and grass. Light-bodied, with modest carbonation and a clean mouthfeel. Simple, straightforward red ale. Wednesday, March 2, 2016

2.4 Petaluma Hills East Side Bitter Draft at the brewery, served in a flight. Pours a clear orange-gold color with a thin white ring for a head. Notes of grass, tea, hay, and caramel. Light-bodied, with low carbonation and a thin, earthy mouthfeel. Another bland one, unfortunately, like 2-3 others here. Hard to find deScriptors in that situation. Wednesday, March 2, 2016

2.6 Petaluma Hills Big House Blonde Draft at the brewery, served in a flight. Pours a clear piss gold with no head. Bland through and through - pale, banana chips, straw, cracker. Light-bodied, with a clean mouthfeel and modest carbonation. No sign of those hops. No sign of that Belgian Abbey yeast. It’s all been washed out, apparently. Wednesday, March 2, 2016

3.1 Petaluma Hills Pumpkin Patch Traffic Jam Ale Draft at the brewery, served in a flight. Pumpkin beer in early February? Not sure I get it. But maybe they keep it around all year, since they have 11 beers listed here and had all 11 on tap when we arrived. Anyway, it pours a clear gold color with a small white ring for a head. Notes of nutmeg, honey, pale malts, allspice, and straw. Light-bodied, with modest carbonation and a smooth, clean mouthfeel. Falls on the lighter, more subtle side of this category. Wednesday, March 2, 2016

3.3 Petaluma Hills Porterluma Draft at the brewery, served in a flight. Pours a cloudy brown color with a small beige head that settles into a ring. 3.2 Petaluma Hills Old Adobe Stout Draft at the brewery. Pours an opaque coffee brown with a tan head that settles into a ring, leaving spots of lace in the glass. 3.5 Petaluma Hills Line & Twine IPA Draft at the brewery, served in a flight. Pours a hazy gold color with a small white head that settles into a ring, leaving spots of lace in the glass. Citrus fruits, florals, herbs, grass, and a pale malt backbone. Dank up front, with a light body and clean, tea-like mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Nice light IPA that drinks well under its ABV. Wednesday, March 2, 2016

3 Petaluma Hills Tripel J Draft at the brewery, served in a flight. Pours a clear gold color with a white head that settles into a ring and an island of film, leaving spots of lace in the glass. Notes of residual sugars, straw, pale and sweet malts, and some dry and fruity yeasty esters. Light-bodied, relatively clean to style, with modest carbonation. Really light tripel. Not bad. Wednesday, March 2, 2016

2.5 Petaluma Hills Rivertown Brown Draft at the brewery, served in a flight. Pours a clear orange with no depth of color whatsoever and an off-white head that settles into a ring and some wisps of film. Not brown. No aroma. Pale, malts, tea, minerals, leaves, and faint fruit. Light-bodied, with a thin, watery mouthfeel and modest carbonation. So bland. It’s so weird, too, how they have one brown ale that’s a porter or stout and another that could barely be an amber ale. Both ends of the spectrum. I’ll take the dark one over this non-entity. Wednesday, March 2, 2016

3 Petaluma Hills Dated 1858 Draft at the brewery, served in a flight. Pours a cloudy amber color with a moderate off-white head that settles into a thin film and ring while lacing the glass. Notes of leafy hops, fruity esters, dates, dry malts, and grass. Light-bodied, with a dry, bitter, earthy mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Weird take on an IPA. Wednesday, March 2, 2016

3.4 Petaluma Hills Lamppost Ale Draft at the brewery, served in a flight. Pours a coffee brown color with a moderate beige head that settles into a thick ring while lacing the glass. Notes of dry roasted malts, dark chocolate, honey, nuts, and tobacco. Light-medium bodied, with a dry, roasty, somewhat bitter mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Not sure this could qualify as a brown ale; it’s dark and more intense. Wednesday, March 2, 2016

3 Petaluma Hills Red Tag Ale On tap @ Petaluma Hills. Deep amber colored beer with an off-white head. Lots of toasted bread, caramel, and toffee. Kind of a sugary thing going on here, but somehow also finishes a bit acidic and off-dry. Floral and grassy hops are there, at least. Some fruity esters of apple, cherry, and tart blackberry. Just another meh "Irish Red". Saturday, February 27, 2016

3.2 Petaluma Hills Old Adobe Stout On tap @ Petaluma Hills. Just about black with a tan head. Like many of these types of beers, this is just sort of bland and roasty with some coffee, burnt toast, and earthy hops. Mild to minimal sweetness here. Cocoa powder and a light bitterness on the finish. Not my favorite kind of beer, but this is fine and rather inoffensive, particularly compared to some of their other beers. Saturday, February 27, 2016

2.4 Petaluma Hills Rivertown Brown On tap @ Petaluma Hills. While their other brown ale was incredibly dark, this one is incredibly light. More of an amber colored beer. Mostly just sweet sugars, caramel, and bread. Light hop character of dried leaves and grass. Maybe some buttered toast? Fairly sweet tasting with a sharp bitterness to the finish. Thin. Meh. Saturday, February 27, 2016
brokensail |
2.8 Petaluma Hills Lamppost Ale On tap @ Petaluma Hills. Dark brown in color with a khaki head. Molasses bread and a lot of fruity esters. Far more roasted malt character than I would usually expect, or prefer, in a brown ale. Okay in some ways. A little thin and perhaps even a touch acidic for my tastes. Some cocoa/dark chocolate, burnt toast, and somewhat bitter on the finish. Saturday, February 27, 2016
brokensail |
2.5 Petaluma Hills East Side Bitter On tap @ Petaluma Hills. A copper beer with cream colored foam. Was really hoping to like this, alas, it is a loser in my opinion. Just intensely bitter and astringent which is not pleasant at all. Very strong earthy hop character with only a moderate malt flavor and sweetness of toasted bread. Odd fruity esters that don’t even fit in with the usual English ale yeast profile. Friday, February 26, 2016

2.2 Petaluma Hills Tripel J On tap @ Petaluma Hills. Clear golden beer with a soapy white head. There’s a lot of intense phenolic and herbal qualities to this that I don’t care for. Boozy, too. Big pepper, some menthol, and lemon pith. Kind of harsh but also intensely sweet with a big time apple and canned pear flavor and aroma. Scroll past. Friday, February 26, 2016

3.4 Petaluma Hills Porterluma On tap @ Petaluma Hills. Very dark brown in color with a khaki head. Has sort of a nice fruity cocoa and coffee thing to it. Some sweetness of caramel, berry, and malts. A good bit of roasted malt flavor and bitterness to it. Fairly dry on the back end, actually, which I wasn’t expecting. A bit of an earthy and leafy thing to it, too. Okay. Friday, February 26, 2016

2.6 Petaluma Hills Big House Blonde On tap @ Petaluma Hills. Golden colored beer with a white head. Husky grains and tannins are way too strong. A lot of apple, white pepper, and dusty hops. Very sweet and grain to me at the same time with a fair amount of pear esters. A touch of green apple skin and some yeast. Not a big fan. Friday, February 26, 2016
brokensail |
1.8 Petaluma Hills Dated 1858 On tap @ Petaluma Hills. Turbid amber colored beer with a finger of khaki foam. Oh sheesh. This is brutal. Like a glass of sawdust and black pepper. Overbearing bitterness and astringency. Rough. Some date flavor, I guess. A bit of caramel malt, too. Toffee, burnt grains, and a ton of grain husk. Gross. Friday, February 26, 2016
brokensail |
3.3 Petaluma Hills Pumpkin Patch Traffic Jam Ale On tap @ Petaluma Hills. Clear golden beer with a white head. Smells of banana, vanilla, and clove. Soft nutmeg like aroma and flavor as well. Sweet bread dough and dinner rolls. Fair amount of biscuit maltiness, too. Light grassy bitterness on the finish. Pretty easy drinking. I guess a touch of pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream feel to it. Friday, February 26, 2016
brokensail |
3.5 Petaluma Hills Line & Twine IPA On tap @ Petaluma Hills. Hazed golden orange beer with a white head. Pretty solid citrus and floral hop aroma going on. Slight banana and pear esters to it, unfortunately. But, a nice bit of grass and pine as well. Moderate bitterness to it and some sweet biscuit malts. Not bad. Friday, February 26, 2016

3.7 Petaluma Hills Line & Twine IPA Tap at the Brewpub. Pale gold, cloudy, with lace. Nose of tropical fruits, apricot, grapefruit. Tasty tropical fruit flavor, citrus and a bit dank. Creamy, as if wheat is used. Juicy fruit is very nice. Best of the bunch. Wednesday, February 10, 2016
