Sweetgrass Golden Ale
Lightly unfiltered golden colour with a frothy-bubbly white cap, good stay and some soapy-foamy lacing spots. Herbal-grassy-apple aromas with the straw malt base. The taste shows so decent mild grassiness with the light cereal malts. A nice, mild, golden ale with a good blend of malts and herbal hops.

Very smooth average to light body, soft carbonation. Really interesting but I'm not convinced I want more. 7/4/7/3-4/14-15 On tap at The Auld Spot, Toronto.

Sweetgrass Session Saison
April 14, 2014 - at Bar Hop - keg (if I recall correctly) - this is the right entry, but this rating is for the BAR HOP variant (each bar did keg where they added their own ingredients) - this has habanero pepper and tart cherries Matt wanted added. Anyway. Very hazy deep gold with a nice lasting creamy off-white head, nice legs. Aroma is slightly spicy/earthy Belgian wit with sweet cherry, moderate alcohol (7-). Starts like a standard fruity saison, then it grabs the back of your throat with huge, earthy peppery heat - BIG heat. Average body and carbonation, forget the fruit, spice, yeast - this is HEAT. Couldn’t do a pint - too OTT.

This lager poured a clear, light amber colour with a off white, frothy head. Minimal lacing. Scents include...not much. Creamed corn, minimal vinegar. First swig was a little thin with flavours of corn and honey. Finish is nice and malty but not too sweet. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, shared with TylerDurden. Hazy grey-gold, rapidly receding head in the typical gose fashion. Briny and lemony, lightly tart, saline finish. Hits all the boxes for the style, but I found the salt a little out of proportion to the tart in my opinion.

473ml can from LCBO. Pours a fairly large amount of foamy bubbly white head and has a clear golden appearance. Sticky lacing. Minimal carbonation. Aromas of light bready malts, grassy and piney hops. Flavours are mainly of the malt variety, more bready malts, cereal, wheat, a bit toasty. Hops are a little bit in the background, quite subtle. Has some bitterness to it.

White wine barrel ageing tends to work better with these sorts of beers, and this is no exception. A few months of ageing gave it a bit of edge, and certainly drinkability.

Ruddy golden straw colour. Highly carbonated, thin dense ring of white cream hued foam. Big bubbly liquid. Aromas of baked goods, white flour and pie crust, light toffee scent. Easy drinking but still a bold ale, fast flavour and clean mouth feel. Some fresh grassy notes, slightly herbal. Overall a decent effort at a typical north American ale. Drink it and enjoy a fruit platter with honeydew, grapes and some ground nuts.

Faint malty aroma with notes of nutmeg and ginger. Hazy gold colour. Pale flavours of lime and grass; negligible sour or salty elements. Light body with high carbonation. Pleasant enough to drink, but the beer is a bit too much session and not enough gose.

Salty and a bit of lemony rhubarb sourness, flavor a bit of a letdown with lack of tart strawberry or sweaty funk complexity, so prized in the Leipziger Bahnhof version. Best thing is the aroma, still a bit elementary there. Doesn’t go far enough but has some of the style.

Can from LCBO that looks like someone designed & printed the label in their basement on their parents old printer. Nice little drinker of a beer: doughy, sugary, somewhat hopless, crisp in the middle with an odd brown sugar fade out for a finish. Have no idea what the reviewer two below means when s/he describes the flavour as spiky (didn’t know spikes were a flavour). Ok, this beer is better than expected. You could pound a few these back during a parent-teacher interview (if your the teacher, i recommend a double IPA & maybe some bourbon cuz really its cuz of the students you drink, right?) Rumour has it this is brewed by that guy who runs that bar on the danforth & who directed that cool horror movie but maybe that’s not true.

At the cottage drinking beer. Hopefully good beer. Pours a slightly green tinged blond that has a bunch of white head that immediately dissipates. Nose of soft malt, ginger spice, honey. It’s a weird mouthful, thin hay malts, a little grape, oddly ending with touch of tomato, no salt, but i always miss those in gose, with a mild mild lactose sour. I’ll rate it when I hit the bottom of the bottle, not sure I like it from first taste... So a little drinking and a little thinking later i’m going to say...no. That light souring gave it a slight acidity that tomatoed it up. I saw a basil version of this one rated, gotta say yikes!
