Klosterbrauerei Ettal Reviews

Benediktiner Hell 2.3
500 ml can from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass.

App.: Clear light golden with a fairly tight bright white head. Aroma: Wet cardboard, grainy/cereal, moderate sulphur, very light Noble hop aroma. Palate: Medium-ish body, fairly full carbonation, not aggressive. Flav.: Grain/cereal, wet paper/cardboard, light Noble hops, faint sulphur; dry with low to moderate bitterness and a nondeScript grainy malt finish.

Meh, auf Deutsch.

Benediktiner Weissbier 3.6
Pours a hazy looking orange/brown color with big and creamy white head. Smell is sweet; wheat, malts, yeast, bread. Medium body with slightly watery texture. Soft and medium carbonation. Very pleasant and refreshing taste, slightly sweet and fruity, mostly banana notes. Aroma of malts, yeast, wheat, bread, a bit grassy. Spices and herbs in the aftertaste. Slightly dry finish. Overall, really nice. Easy drinking, pleasant, refreshing. Would definitely drink this one again.

Benediktiner Hell 3.2
Where and how: can 500 ml
Aroma: worty, grainy with side backed with green bittering hops. Not as floral/herbal as One would hope to see. Malts in aroma seem to be of generic kind.
Appearance :
Top: medium fine off-white top, some rings on glass shown.
Base: clear gold
Palate : medium soft bodied, average finish, average plus carbonation.
Taste: similar to what aroma offered. Ok, malt base, even not too bad with same green twiggy hop feel to it. This one if fairly harsh for Helles style.
other notes bonus points, all this raw green hop approach at the end was quiet refreshing.

Benediktiner Weissbier Dunkel 3.6
Pours a thick, hazy, dark ruby color with medium white short lasting head. Smell of wheat, yeast, bread, a bit banana. Thin to medium body with low carbonation. Somewhat oily texture. This one is dunkel, so the taste is not as sweet as you’d expect from wheat beers, it’s more on the roasted side. Aroma of wheat, yeast, roasted malts and bread. Very interesting aftertaste. Notes of banana, grass and spices. Hint of caramel and cinnamon. Very smooth. Overall, pretty good and quite enjoyable.

Benediktiner Weissbier 2.9
Pale yellow colour. Nice white head. Does not have that distinctive good flowery and fruity aroma as on would expect from a nice weissbier. Hints of yeast. Hints of caramel and fruits. Some sweetness in the end. Light bodied, medium carbonated drinking beer. Nothing special but drinkable.

- Complex taste of body

Decent weizen beer. Good thing is less sweetness.

Benediktiner Hell 3.5
Very pale golden-straw pour. Huge pillowy head and a great clarity. The aroma is very clean, crackery malt with a firm bitterness and a little bit of herbal hoppiness. A completely quaffable helles. Wish I’d bought more.

Absolut nichts besonderes. Leichte Säure, leichte Banane, ein wenig Gewürz drin. Das war es auch schon.

Benediktiner Hell 3.3
From the 500 ml. can dated 04/24/2015. Straw yellow pour with humongous white foamy head. Excellent clarity. German toasted bread and biscuit malt aroma but a little butterscotch. Could be due to the age of the can. Light, refreshing body. The taste is a nice step up from the aroma with a toasted bread and biscuit sweetness and a clean grassy finish.

On tap at Craft Room. Clear deep darker ruby/amber body with an off white creamy head, quite lovely. Dry malty aroma, raisins, caramel. Medium lean body, malts abound, caramel, vague fruitiness - raisins, very slightly oily. Dry finish, liiiight roasty bitterness. While not particularly bursting with complexity, this is a supremely drinkable beer, not too sweet, not as boozy as I heard it was. Nothing off about it at all - and that’s something one should appreciate in a Doppelbock, or strong lager of any kind. Good job!

Benediktiner Weissbier Alkoholfrei 1
From Alcampo. In Bavaria weiss glass. At lunch, with caña lomo. Where is the wheat? Normally the wheat beers are the best non-alcoholic ones, but this is just the opposite. Very artificialy sweet. Like a ultra cornish beverage but without corn according to the ingredients

Benediktiner Weissbier Dunkel 3.6

500 ml bottle bought at Beeger’s booth during the 13th Hong Kong Food Festival 2015 in HKCEC, Wan Chai.

Translucent amber brown colour with a ring of dirt- like yeast sediments; Two finger head with crumpety off-white foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Excellent sticky lacing and fizzy carbonation; Very fragrant aroma of amber malt, with moderate roastyness, strong wheat, tartness, strong banana, light dark fruits, vanilla, caramel, chocolate, toffee, sugar, cloves, light cinnamon, strong yeast, light lemon and thin grass; Close to light sweet taste of moderate dark malt, with moderate roastyness, light metallic, caramel, burnt toast, light dark chocolate, light wheaty tartness, light molasses, earth, cinnamon, strong spices, strong yeast, lemon, moderate bitter hops and light grass; Close to medium body. Slick and creamy palate; Mouth feel is quite rich dark maltyness in a fairly thick background, smooth and creamy. Fair wheatyness and light tartness. Good caramel and burnt toast characters. Very low fruity ester but strong earthy spiciness. Moderate sweetness. Good lemon to round. Solid!... Hoppiness is light cinnamon, earth, light lemon and thin grass in nose, and much stronger in taste; Bitterness is strong in combination with burnt malt for an abrupt, high-astringent malty finish; Fairly dry after taste. Smooth and bitter to mouth.

Comments: This one could have been a run-of-the-mill dark weiss, but its strong dark burnt maltyness and spicy earthy hops really up its tempo. Topped with good looks and creamy palate, this is an underrated and enjoyable Dunkelweiss. Cheers!

Does not stand out as an extraordinary hefeweizen. As a hardcore fan of this beer style I expected much more than a yeasty, slightly acidic brew. OK as a beer, but rather poor in the style.

Can, 50cl. Pours unclear orange colour with huge, foamy, long-lasting off-white head that leaves moderate lacing. Heavy wheat-dominated aroma that leaves only moderate room for cloves, bananas, phenols and spices. Wheat, sweet malts, bubble gum and banana in taste. Mostly wheat to be honest. Medium-high sweet flavour, low bitterness and hobs. Creamy, slight oily texture. Ok weiss.

Bottle @ Deans Sticky Bomb Shelter Tasting, thnx to the crew for sharing! Pours a clear, darker golden beer with a thin off white head on top. Aroma of sweet malts, some faint, dried herbal notes, dark fruits. Flavor is sweet, malty again, typical Doppelbock, a hint of booze. Fruity sweet aftertaste. Quite nice, lacks a decent aftertaste and complexity though.
