Dogfish Head Beer To Drink Music To
12 oz. bottle. Poured into a Trappist glass. Pours sunset orange/yellow with a 1/2" bubbly white head. Head recedes quickly, leaving no lace. Sweet smelling Belgian yeast with apricot fruit and a whiff of alcohol. Beer is sweet, as it should be. More Belgian yeast, some candied fruit and light honey. Full bodied and warming. Nice!!

Dogfish Head Flesh & Blood IPA
Clear deep copper hue under a thick off white Rocky head. Lovely floral dank and orange rind pithy aroma that’s citrusy and classically west coast dank. Big palate with juicy blood orange citrus and some pithy rind, a big floral hoppy bite, and a smooth pale malt/crystal malt/blood orange semisweet finish. Pretty nice character but has a finish that doesn’t last terribly long, so in all honesty it’s a little forgettable. Bad for long term enjoyment, but the plus side is that every sip is a fun reminder.

Dogfish Head SeaQuench Ale
Pours a hazy straw yellow with no foam head. Aroma is citrus, salt, and some mineral and light malts. Flavor is tart citrus, bread malts, and salt. Has a crisp, light body with lots of carbonation. It’s interesting to learn that Dogfish Head made this out of a blend of three beers, but I would expect a little more complexity from the beer than it has. I think the blends do add some more malt character than I expected and they probably tone down the sourness. I do like this. It’s not as good as Sierra Nevada’s gose, Otra Vez, but this is still a very nice sessionable sour.

Dogfish Head Flesh & Blood IPA
Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours a beautiful clear copper with a slight white head. Aroma of citrus - could be some blood orange. Med body. Flavor is quite citrus, even zesty, but not very acid, and there’s blood orange. It’s towards dry and rather bitter. Not outstandingly new flavors, but good.

Dogfish Head Biere de Provence
Brilliant clear golden with a thin foamy white head. Interesting floral and herbal nose that’s hard to explain but the label says bay leaves, and that might fit what I’m smelling. Big full mouthfeel that’s herbal and floral with lavendar and coriander and bay leaves (I guess), lots of Belgian pale saison malt, a light touch of lemon and rosemary, and a lot of Belgian yeast esters. Just a little too much that it’s hard to pick anything out. Just round and full, hard to distinguish nuance. Booze kills the eccentricity.

Aromas a caramelo, malta, notas dulces y ligeramente ahumadas. De color rojizo con tonos granates. Corona de espuma abundante de buena retencion. Carbonatacion media.

As far as pumpkin beers go, if it’s not your thing, then you’ll rate Miller Lite higher. It’s subtle (which I like). Great spicy nose of nutmeg and allspice. Attractive amber color and white head. Spicy, halts and a mild bite. Cheers!

Dogfish Head Flesh & Blood IPA
12oz bottle pours with a crystal clear burnt copper body that supports a thin light tan head. The aroma offers up spicy hops, mineral notes, a bit of black pepper and some juicy blood orange like citrus into the end of the draw. The taste delivers a flash of smooth sweet malts and then spicy earthy herbal sort of green bell pepper like hoppiness leading to growing floral hops. Interesting. To midway it gets more into malt sweetened and molasses infused blood orange citrus juiciness. Interesting and fun hoppy expression.

Dogfish Head Alternate Takes #2
Growler from Joe Canal’s in Lawrenceville, NJ. Hazy copper with a small firm beige head. Sharp bready, Brett nose. First sip brings musty, dryish tart fruit and funk. A lot at play here. Back of the barn, stone fruit, grape skins and boozy notes. Complex and wondrous. Fruity and bready, yet not like breadfruit. A real cross between sour ale and earthy wine. A paradox of sorts. This drinks easy, but beware that at 10% ABV, it will sneak up on you and slap you silly. Not the best of Dogfish Head, but a pleasant little gem that will leave you wondering how they ever thought to create this.

Dogfish Head SeaQuench Ale
Some aroma of lemon/orange, some pear. Light yellow/orange color, no head, minimal carbonation. Muted sour up front, with some sweetness. Lemon, orange, come through nicely. Well balanced sour vs sweet. Some slight funkiness from yeast. Finish is a light tartness. Tiny carbonation, light mouth feel, yet slightly watery as well. Refreshing, but flavors not as robust as anticipated.

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA
Bottle. A triple IPA to define standards. Intense pine aroma. Mouth is ultra heavy, thick, sticky, sweet. Pineapple, for sure and for real. Boozy, but not nearly as expected for 18% ABV. Feels like the tongue sticks to the roof of the mouth after swallowing. Ultra long super sweet finish with lots of pineapple again. A revelation indeed.

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA
My 100th Imperial IPA rating. Bottle. Hazy orange color with white head. Aroma is caramel, very hoppy, canned peach, pineapples, and such. Taste is pineapples, very sweet, but very fresh at the same time, huge malt body. Medium carbonation, oily mouthfeel. I usually don?t like this amount of sweetness, but for 18 ABV, this is extremely well-balanced. In terms of ABV hiding, this is a brewing masterpiece.

Tallahassee, Fl - on tap at Momo’s Pizza - Northeast. Hazy, light golden appearance, soft, off-white head. Pleasant, sour aroma, hints of passion fruit. Flavor presents some fruit cocktail notes, some papaya, passion fruit, a touch of Sweet Tart candy sourness in the back end. Nicely textured mouthfeel.

Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale
Pours dark brown. Aroma of rich brown sugar, caramel and molasses. There's little hop aroma to speak of (in this bottle at least - bottled 8 months before drinking). Hops come through nicely in the flavour but again I was expecting a hit of hops. All in all though it is a brilliant brown ale which I would definitely drink again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Bert’s Slightly hazy deep straw color with a small bubbly white head that dissipates almost instantly. Lime and salt on the nose with faint bread underneath. Interesting flavors melded together. I pick up the sweet bready crackery pilsner maltiness and light fruit of the kolsch. Plenty of tart lemony lime and some spice and saltiness. Pretty weird but it kind of works.

12oz bottle from Xroads. Poured a cloudy light orange gold body with a smaller fizzy white that quickly and totally dissipates. Aroma starts off with a vomit burst that thankfully passes quickly. Rotting citrus fruit and old wheat toast plus light spice and salt come through along with a hint of white pepper. Flavor of limes, grains, toast with a hint of salt, cracker. Body is big and full despite lighter to average carbonation. Just seems a bit big to be a thirst quencher.

Bottle. Lightly cloudy pale. First impressions are good. Refreshingly fun with cutting carbonation. yes, you can tell there is a bit of a kolsch thing going on but its massively good gose all round. Just enough lime in there to keep it interesting but not enough to take it over. This stuff really grows on you. You’d never know it was 5%. Goes down way too easy, no pun intended. Yes, overall very good beer tasting experience. Good attributes of berliner along with a good character of gose, well balanced. Quite nice, wish I had another bottle, much better than expected.

Pale straw color with a moderate, white head. The lemon and citric peel hold the most attention in the nose. Hints of dough, pale wheat and malt. With a little more effort I do catch a bit of coriander and lavender. Light sweet malt in the front that lead to mild citrus. A touch sharp in the middle with bitter orange peel. A decent wit, but the sharpness distracts. A good effort on a delicate, difficult style. 8/10

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA
From bottle. Pours a darkish clear amber with a small off white head. Aroma has looots of hops, caramel malts, toffee, orange, tropical hops, earthy hops, lots of malt presence, vanilla. Taste is super intense. First now i see it’s 18%!? Holy fack that is well hidden in the aroma. In the taste it is more noticable, but mostly as a taste amplifier. Super bitter, super sweet, vanilla, malty, tasty. More like an extremely hoppy barley wine due to the maltiness. Average to low carbonation and a slight boozy, oily body.

Though treated as a gose on ratebeer, luckily the other 3 styles can relate to the stange treatment, which is what I did. The appearance was a hazy burnt yellow almost ruddy orange color with no head nor lacing (reminiscent of Americanized goses, okay, fair enough, I get it). The aroma starts off with some lime, quaffable sweet lemon, low saline, sly sweet corn (kolsch part). Some tart, but delicately underneath. The flavor is citrusy sweet (lime and lemon, sticky but there). Subtle salinity. Quick semi-sweet aftertaste with balanced sweet to salty finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation runs light. Overall, I think it definitely leans gose the most. BW, well, sour and tart just far in the background, Kolsch aspects, hmmmm, well, that’s just the aroma. It’s good for what it is and I could come back to.

Location: 4 pack from Whole Foods Market in Redwood City, CA
Aroma: Light commercial corn funk, white wine, underripe peaches
Taste: Tart underripe peaches, white wine
Palate: Crisp
Overall: A little underwhelming in the peach department, was hoping for something a little juicier. Had more of a mineral, white wine, commercial pils component going on.

Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours hazy gold with a slight white head. Aroma is dusty, mild citrus leaves. Near med body. Flavor hits with something like lime leaves, moves on to light breadiness and reveals some salt. First impression very nice - moving on to the finish is a bit dull. Guess it’s meant to be crushed rapidly. After a bit the lime leaf begins to dominate and control the mouth with some dry astringency.

Deliciously tart and refreshing beer. Aroma was good. All citrus with lime and lemon peel dominating. Pour was a very hazy light gold with no head but plenty of rising and fuzzy bubbles. Taste was outstanding. Incredibly refreshing with big juicy sour lime flavors and tons of tiny carbonation bubbles filling the mouth with each sip. Nice tart and sour dry finish washed everything away. Strong carbonation and notes of tangy wheat were there as well. Nice low ABV. Can’t say enough about this beer

12 oz. bottle from a 4 pack purchased @ The Beer Store. Poured a dark orange with a slight haze and a 2 finger white head that left a modest amount of lace. Herbal nose with notable lavender as well other scents. No doubt the marjoram and bay leaves. Secondary yeast. The yeast and spice drive the flavor bus with the floral aspects of the lavender being in the background. Medium bodied with a dry finish. One interesting brew although one at a sitting is enough.

Bottle pours a hazy copper orange with a one finger off-white head and light lacing. Smells of malt, fruit, citrus, light stinky feet.
