Blue Point Brewing (AB InBev) Reviews

Blue Point Toasted Lager 2.9
Hazy gold pour. Taste is bready and grainy decent malt character light bodied. Fairly normal, no off flavours but not stand out.

Blue Point Hoptical Illusion 4.9
Excellently bitter beer! Strong hoppy nose, cloudy, one of the best. Cool graphics on 6-pack carrier too.

Blue Point Wet Hops Experiment 2.9
Pours a slightly hazy golden orange from the bomber with fluffy white head that dissipates slowly to leave good lace, not dark copper, maybe they removed the chocolate. Aroma of sweet caramel malts, slightly oxidized, citrus and fruity hops. Taste is pretty much all the oxidation, a hint of floral over cardboard malt. Good carbonation, medium bitterness. No date code on the bottle, just a 2013 copyright on the label, even if it’s more recent, hop harvest was 5 months ago.

Blue Point Blueberry Ale 2.4
The aroma is ok. The flavor is blueberry-like but thin and medicinal and overall not too enjoyable. It does have a nice bottle.

Blue Point Toasted Lager 2.5
There’s a lot not to love about this beer. It’s a lot maltier than a standard pilsner or light lager, which I often like, but here the malt is sweet caramel mixed with cooked corn. I got a moderate amount of sulfur from the yeast, too. I honestly don’t think I’d choose this over a Budweiser.

Blue Point Winter Ale 3.5
Pours a reddish brown color with ivory colored head. Caramel malt, biscuit, bread, and some molasses on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with bread and molasses.

Blue Point Armchair Nitro Stout 3.5
16oz nitro pour at CTH pours a murky dark brown with some creamy, white head. Nose has what you expect, malt, brown sugar, some toast, a little meaty, some mushroom. Flavor follows right behind with malt and mushroom, some creamy oats, a little raw chocolate. Dry, creamy finish.

Blue Point Blueberry Ale 3
Draft at MOTR Pub at X______X concert on January 23, 2016. Attractive gold/amber color with very good clarity, blueberry nose that smelled a bit artificial, blueberry flavor upfront wasn’t bad but cheap grainy backround taste was. Too bad I never had any of this brewery’s beers before the AB InBev takeover because I sure as hell won’t try any more of them now. My numerical rating is lenient as it is. The only reason I got this was because the folks behind the bar seemed unsure about what the nonstandard Bells tap was, and the handle wasn’t readable.

Blue Point Hoptical Illusion 3.4
12oz bottle made on 12/11/15. Nose is grassy, herbal and caramel. Sip adds fruitiness, booze and resin. Good, not great.
Sunday, January 17, 2016

Blue Point Rastafa Rye Ale 3
Pours gold into a shaker. White head with good retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Sour pumpernickel aromas. Caramel and sourdough upfront turning to soft pumpernickel in the sour finish.

Blue Point Wet Hops Experiment 3.6
on tap at the Office in Ridgewood, NJ; clear amber color; nice floral, citrusy hop aroma; smooth, juicy hop character; medium bodied caramel malt base

Blue Point Toasted Lager 3
Growler. Clear amber colour with a thin white cap. Nose - cereal/grain. Taste - sweet malt and grain/cereal with a grassy end. Light bitterness. Easy drinker, not that exciting though.

Blue Point Hoptical Illusion 3.7
Good aroma, nice and bitter. Surprisingly good ipa. Had a six pack from food lion. Would have again.

Blue Point Pumpkin Ale 3.1
12 oz bottle at home. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have roasted pumpkin, sweet malts, caramel, pumpkin pie spices, some crust, a bit thin but nothing bad, nothing really stands out either.

Blue Point Toasted Lager 3.1
Golden amber in color with a large dissipating white head. Nutty, toasted malt aroma with hints of pine hops. Creamy mouthfeel with a smooth flavor of roasted malt. Fast fading light bread aftertaste.

Blue Point Winter Ale 3.7
Pours a clear, deep auburn with dense khaki head that reduces steadily but leaves a bit of lacing. The nose is caramel, bread, molasses, malt riding over earthy yeasts. The palate is similar, a nice mix of seasonal flavors as advertised, with caramel, raisin and mild chocolate. The spice is more a suggestion than a strong note, and the herbal hops are mercifully restrained. The result is actually well balanced without having to shout about it. This seems more like a traditional English ale. It’s nothing outlandish, but made with finesse to reflect the season and appeal to mature palates.

Blue Point Mosaic Session IPA 3.6
clear amber color; nice floral hop aroma with citrus notes; a well balanced beer; citrusy hops with tropical fruit notes on a light, bready malt base; dry, bitter finish

Blue Point Toasted Lager 3.3
Bottle - fair size foamy head, nice clear medium copper color, good malty aroma and flavor, fair earthy hop balance, pretty good overall ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Blue Point Armchair Nitro Stout 3.5
Draft at RFD. Deep brown with small tan head. Roasted malt, coffee, ash. Pretty run of the mill but easy drinking.
Tuesday, December 22, 2015

Blue Point Toasted Lager 3.7
Much more malt than a typical Lager. The toasted notes are subtle. It has a dry and round finish.
Monday, December 21, 2015

Blue Point Wet Hops Experiment 3.4
Some citrus and some malt. Comes together decently. Pours orange. Some tang and some bitterness in finish. Tap at jackpot.

Blue Point Mosaic Session IPA 3.5
Bottle. Pours a clear pale gold body with a very small and thin white head. The nose is nice fruity mosaic hops over a clean bready malt base. The flavor is a bit thin on the malt side, but I suppose that lets the hops shine a bit more. Light bitterness, but bright hoppiness. Light bodied and a bit thin maybe, with fizzy soft carbonation. Pretty nice effort, an easy drinking session IPA.

Blue Point Blueberry Ale 2.9
Poured an amber color with a white head. Aroma was of blueberry, light caramel, and mild vomit. Flavor similar, I actually expected this to be even worse than it is. Not great, but not horribly offensive.

Blue Point Oktoberfest 2.8
Poured a deep mahogany color with aromas of sweet malt and light toast. Flavors are the same, thin, with some toastiness, light nuttiness as well, nothing special.
Friday, December 18, 2015

Blue Point Mosaic Session IPA 3.7
Smells of yeast and slight hop citrus fruits. Keller is a pale almost clear yellow color. Taste is quite unique with a slight hoppy malty flavor that is tasty. Carbonation is nice and balanced for the hops. Flavor rushes you then disappears quickly. Blue point surprises me once again.

Blue Point Toasted Lager 3.1
Bottle @ The Andersons / Columbus OH --- Clear dark amber color, 1" white head, star field of lace. Taste is mild caramel malt and biscuit that moves through a lightly fizzed swallow to a finish with only a hint of hops. Easy drinking light malty brew, but pretty simple and also uninteresting.
Sunday, December 13, 2015

Blue Point Winter Ale 3
Brown sugar, a bit sweet, caramel, watery molasses, moderate maltiness, mild earthy hoppiness, stronger as it warms; just okay.
Sunday, December 13, 2015

Blue Point Oktoberfest 2.7
bottle @ Chief Market / Lima OH --- Clear dark amber color, off-white head, spots and dots of lace. Taste is malt that turns sweeter in a very lightly fizzed swallow, followed by thin hops in a medium finish. Nothing bad here, just nothing really good, either.
Saturday, December 12, 2015

Blue Point Mosaic Session IPA 3.4
On tap @ Malt House. Pours clear dark golden with medium white head that laces well. Aroma is mild oaky malt, just a hint of hops. Taste is decently large earthy light caramel malt, then light crisp grassy hops. Fresh Mosaic flavor is easily evident. Decent balance, though like all session IPAs, they come on harsh. Still, decent for the style.
Saturday, December 12, 2015

Blue Point Blueberry Ale 2.5
bottle @ Chief Market / Lima OH --- Clear golden amber color, white head that drops to a cover, strips and blobs of lace. Taste is carbonated malt that adds artificial blueberry as it moves to an inconspicuous finish. The malt is unassertive, the blueberry is minimal, and the hops are nearly invisible. A light brew that goes too far.
Friday, December 11, 2015

Blue Point Toasted Lager 2.9
Mostly clear brown, small tan head. Aroma malt, not much else. Medium-light body. Flavor is moderately sweet, malt. Not much of note here, but decent enough.
Wednesday, December 09, 2015

Blue Point Toasted Lager 2.6
On tap at 40 Brews. It poured an amber color with a white head. The aroma was of bread and sweet malts. The taste was similar to the aroma with more malts, a touch of yeast and some toastiness. Decent.
Tuesday, December 08, 2015

12 ounce bottle purchased at Total Wine Pembroke Pines, FL for $8.99/6-pack. Good.

Blue Point Mosaic Session IPA 3.1
16 oz. can from a four pack. Purchased at One Stop Market, Haverhill. Canned on 6/20/15... Damn it I forgot to check the date on the bottom until I got home, I’m such a fucking rookie. Hazy yellow/ gold color, carbonation still long and lasting. Aroma has a strong earthy element, but not what I would expect from this hop variety.

Long sweet grain with notes of citrus. Pine and earth comes in on the finish. The bitterness is weak and comes in sweet. This hop blend comes in more piney then anything. Of course I’m guessing this was a much different beer say... 5 months ago. Will rate a fresher sample if I ever cross it again. All that being said; still just ok.

Blue Point Hoptical Illusion 4.2
Poured from the tap into a pint glass. The appearance is an amber orange with a white head. The aroma is a blend of citrus, caramel & hops. The taste is first made by the malt and then the hops take over, really good flavor.

Blue Point Toasted Lager 3.8
Poured from the tap into a pint glass at the Iron Abbey in Willow Grove, PA. The appearance is a light brown color with a large tan colored head. The aroma is big on hops and grain, really nice aroma. The taste follows the aroma with some added malt. Overall, a pretty decent lager.

Blue Point Winter Ale 2.4
Bottle poured into a Lagunitas jar. I was really not liking this when I saw the ABInBev connection... glad I only bought one bottle. ’Hearty and robust’? More like sugary and off-flavored. Had to dump this into the glass to get any head at all, which was fleeting. Smells of malt, tastes of brown malt and brown sugar. Light on the hops as well. Simple, bland, unbalanced, ordinary, I would have been pissed off if I bought a 6 pack.

Blue Point Oktoberfest 3.6
Smell is quite wealthy with a nice about finished. Taste flush your tongue with my sweet breads ginger some other stuff that I can’t pinpoint. Flavor lingers on the tongue just a tad very enjoyable multi flavor. Makes me want to try other things besides ipas.

With Z , a bomber , pours a rusty orange color with a beige head. Nose is flat with mild hops. Taste is mild citrus with light hops and light bitterness. Finishes on the same tasting notes, dryly, but lacks an true distinctive flavor. Average at best, but drinkable . Quaff Score 6 / 10

Blue Point Toasted Lager 3
I had it on tap. It pours amber with an off-white head. The aroma is faint caramel and bread. The taste is bread, toffee, a bit toasted, and a hint of hops. There is nice carbonation. This is simple but flavorful. It paired nicely with my steak.
