Davidson Brothers I-87 IPA
Bought a 4 pack of 16 oz. cans at the source while on a trip to the Lake George area. Pours a darker amber/copper color, can't see through it, with a short lived off white head. A smattering of lace. Caramel malt nose with a hint of hops. Malty, sort of sweet, butter and honey flavor. Just the faintest of hops. Some apple/pear flavor as well. Medium bodied and smooth.

10 oz. pour at the source. Poured a clear amber/brown with a thin tan head. Sweet caramel malt aroma with hints of vanilla and fruit. Flavor is sweet, but not as much as you would expect for the style. Body is medium. Not bad, but not quite what I was expecting either.

Davidson Brothers Ryley Summer
Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a semi-golden yellow color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a decent pace. Some stringy lace. The aroma had some peaches and grassy hops. The flavor leaned into the sweetness of the blend. Same sort of aftertaste and finish, which was fairly sticky. The feel was between light and medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Overall, trying to figure out why this is considered a "specialty grain" as there wasn’t any rye in it. Unless I missed it. Then again, it is Davidson.

Davidson Brothers Irish Red
Poured into a mug, the appearance had an amber color with a thin white foamy head that dissipated immediately. Concave sliding lace. The aroma had some toast, nuts, caramel and toffee. The flavor leaned towards the sweet side flowing over some grassy hops trying to provide some bittering but ultimately failing, I’m okay with that. Rich toasty to nutty sweet aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Mild carbonation. ABV felt fine. Overall, good Irish red ale worthy of more pours.

Davidson Brothers Golden Ale
Poured into an English pint glass, the appearance was a soft mildly burnt yellow to off-white color with a semi-foamy white head. Soapy stringy lace. The aroma reaches at some citrus and floral notes faintly flowing over some earthy tones and then a nice malt backbone. The flavor leans towards the malt backbone and ends up embracing a nice balance with the citrus and floral hoppy notes. Earthiness seems to be a lot fainter in this department. Crisp clean malty to lightly hopped aftertaste rolling into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a good sessionability about it. Good carbonation. ABV felt appropriate. Overall, pretty good English pale ale worthy of coming back to.

Davidson Brothers IPA
Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a dark copper color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated within several seconds. The aroma had a fairly big malt character to it with some earthiness, grass and butterscotch. The flavor blended lightly between the malts and the earthy and grassy hops. Cues a nicely blended aftertaste rolling into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Overall, decent as an English styled IPA as the brewer suggests or brewers as I see this is brewed at Shipyard. Do-able.

Davidson Brothers ESB
Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a ruddy burnt orange almost red color with a thin finger’s worth of off white foamy head. Subtle stringy lace. The aroma had some biscuits and white bread with grassy dried grass. Some dried fruity esters. Earthiness at the end. The flavor was malty with a touch of sweetness from the biscuits and white bread. Crisp grassy hop bitterness. Biscuits run with the hops into the aftertaste and on into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Good carbonation. ABV felt fine. Overall, good ESB for what it is.

Davidson Brothers Wheat Ale
Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a yellow color with a fair transparency about it. Moderate carbonation flowing into a quickly dissipating white head. The aroma had some sweet corn, floral and grassy hops. Some light banana. Some light bubblegum. The flavor leaned to the sweet side. Bubblegum comes out a bit more here. Grassy and floral hops produce some bitterness, but that’s super faint. Some sweet banana/bubblegum aftertaste, just a pure sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Good carbonation. ABV felt fine. Overall, I seemed to have missed the wheat portion in this. Was this supposed to be some odd Americanized version of a krystalweizen? Unsure if I would come back to.

Davidson Brothers American Bright
Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a semi-golden yellow color with a slim white cap of a head. Sly messy lace. The aroma has some toast, grassy hops and fruity dry hops to rub against a fair caramel/toffee malt. The flavor had a malty dry sweetness to it. Subtle quick dry sweet aftertaste. Finish seems barely there. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a fairly easy going sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. Overall, is this an American pale ale or a blonde ale? Honestly, I kind of had a hard time trying to find much here at all.

Davidson Brothers Cohans Porter
Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a thin off white cap of a head. Sly lace. The aroma took an English yeast to create some butterscotch, sweet bread, caramel and toffee tones rolling over a delicate chocolate malt. Super subtle roast. The flavor chose the malty sweet side of those previously mentioned aromas. Just a touch of acceptable diacetyl touching down in the aftertaste and runs into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Decent carbonation. ABV felt fine. Overall, as an English porter it works. I would have again.

Davidson Brothers Belgian Tripel
Poured into a chalice, the appearance was a semi-dark amber color with a thick white foamy head. Moderately slow dissipation. Mild stringy lace. The aroma blended some sweet yeasty/Belgian spice to bready sweetness. Subtle grassy tones play with some iced apples. Banana, crisp clean pears, and then some yogurt all combine nicely. The flavor leans closer to the sweet side trying to allow some spice and breadiness to come in. Those two portions mainly sit in the background. Slick sweet sort of fruity aftertaste with a quick finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body and has a decent sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation. ABV seemed a bit lower than projected. Overall, this one was a decent tripel in aroma and flavor but seems to lack the real ABV strength of the style to make it a great one. I think I could still come back to this one.

Davidson Brothers Winter Ale
Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a little white head that dissipated at a slow pace. Concave rim of lace. The aroma had some sweet earthy hops with a touch of grassiness flowing into some loose caramel to toffee malts. Some milk chocolate and black licorice assist nicely in the blend. The flavor leaned initially to the sweet side and blends some earth and spice slide in for a decent blend. Then some woodiness, vanilla, and tobacco come in to further enhance the taste. Smooth sweet combined aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body. Smooth sessionability glides over my tongue. Good carbonation. ABV felt right. Overall, probably leans closer to an English styled strong ale but still a worthy beer to have again in the winter months.

Davidson Brothers Strong Ale
Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a hazy burnt orange to amber color with a thick off white foamy head. Concave lace. The aroma took some clean tropical notes to play with some citrus. Sweet caramel to toffee malts bring about some vanilla, toast, biscuits and then a light tobacco. The flavor moderately blended the sweet tropical fruits to the biscuits. Tobacco comes to balance with a sweet to bitter edge pulling in the vanilla just a tad underneath. Well blended aftertaste of tropical fruits, toast, vanilla and tobacco. Semi-dry malty sort of tropical fruity finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sipping sort of quality. This malt driven beer smooths out all along my tongue pulling just a tad of tobacco dryness to sort out with a nice level carbonation. ABV felt ever so nice. Overall, Davidson outdid themselves with this one. Damn nice winner of a beer, almost barleywine strength, taste and aroma. I didn’t really know this brewery could do something like this. I thought they only brewed just a tad above average to average beers, but this one changed my mind.

Davidson Brothers Harvest Brown
Poured into a mug, the appearance was a light brown color with a thin half finger’s worth of white foamy head. Sliding stringy lace. The aroma had some nuts, then wood, then earth, and some light floral qualities. The flavor was dry surrounding the previously mentioned aromas and semi-sweet with a touch of breadiness. Dry crisp semi-sweet sort of aftertaste rolling into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability if one can get past it’s dryness. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt pretty much right on. Overall, fairly nice brown ale that I could have again, apologies for the late review. I had this last Autumn.

Davidson Brothers Irish Extra Stout
Poured into a mug, the appearance was a black color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head. Sly messy lace. The aroma started with some roasty coffee beans intertwining with some robust cocoa beans. Dark fruits move in sweetly. The flavor makes for the most part to blend between coffee bitterness and roastiness to the sweetness to the dark fruits and cocoa beans. Adds just a touch of sweet cream. Blended roasty to sweet to bitter aftertaste. Quick dry dark fruity and roasted finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV somewhat felt there. Overall, it works as a foreign stout. Though the ABV projected seems to be on par for the style, it does feel a bit under in this beer.

Davidson Brothers Amber Ale
Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a semi-dark amber color with a thin white foamy cap. Messy clingy white lace. The aroma had a butterscotch to caramel to toffee malty sweetness up front with a delicate grassy hop bitterness underneath. The flavor leans to the sweet malty side. Hop bitterness is once again, far underneath. Super malty aftertaste. Quick malty dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. Overall, adequate amber ale with a respectable sort of cleanliness all around. I don’t want to knock this too much. But I often find other amber ales much more flavor worthy.

Davidson Brothers English Double ESB
Poured into a snifter, the appearance looked like orange marmalade colored body with a gentle finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Moderate semi-filmy lacing. The aroma starts off with some sweet caramel and toffee malts, sly nuttiness, some grassy/tobacco leafy hops. Some English bready/biscuity yeasty flavor. The flavor melds the sweet malts to the sweet grassy hops nicely. It does stay pretty sweet throughout, but then there’s that dryness also gripping my taste buds and invading the aftertaste. Definitely a dry malty finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice smooth maltiness rolling over my tongue. Carbonation feels good and fairly low. Overall, really good as an English strong ale. Me, yes, I could have it again.

Davidson Brothers Scotch Ale
Seeing the last review for this can make one apprehensive, but after pouring into a thistle, a nice looking, smelling and flavorful Scotch ale shows its favor upon my palate. Here’s the rest: The appearance was a dark chestnut red to ruddy brown color with a sly transparency about it. Finger’s worth of white foamy head dissipates adequately. The aroma blends black tea to a subtle smoke and sly sweet peat. Super subtle toffee, caramel and nuts play far underneath. Light raisin and some red delicious apples smooth out the aroma. The flavor takes all of the previously mentioned aromas and lets the dry woodiness come across nicely. I will mention that that as it warms, the black tea level seems to be a bit higher than expected. Dry sweet woody aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a great sessionability about it. Carbonation feels good and low. Some stickiness hits but acceptable. Overall, very nice scotch ale/wee heavy that I would have again despite a stronger black tea level flavor hits more than expected.

Davidson Brothers Brown Ale
This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a glossy burnt amber almost close to a brown color. Sly transparency weaves about. Finger’s worth of white foamy head roamed here and there. Semi-sticky lacing, kinda messy. The aroma starts off with the normal qualities of an English Brown ale, sweet toffee rich to nutty character. The flavor leans sweet and smooth. More toffee than expected, but decent. Sly crisp sweet nutty to toffee aftertaste. Sweet wet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a fantastic sessionability about it. Carbonation seems to barely hit. Just really moves really nicely on my tongue. Overall, just a tad lighter in color than expected, but everything else is right on for the style.

Davidson Brothers IPA
The low reviews seem to be from this being rated as an American IPA when it is definitely an English IPA. Pours Dark copper with a thin white head. Aroma is dominated by malt: caramel and some butterscotch. The flavor is also very malt driven. Caramel, butterscotch, and it finishes off with an earthy, bitter bite. A decent English IPA. Quite drinkable, but definitely a shock if you want an aggressive hop-forward American IPA.

This was poured into an English pint glass. The appearance was a mild/semi-clear off brown color. Carbonation running up at a mild pace. Rings of lacing accompanied the wake of the head nicely. The smell started off with a mild sweet nutty/toffee/caramel maltiness. Slight roast, more malty. The taste was mainly the same with a mild dry nuttiness to it. Leads into the aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a pretty good sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light. Maltiness feels good, isn’t cloying, but still dry all around. Overall, as a Scottish ale, I’d say this is good and would have again.

Davidson Brothers English Double ESB
This is excellent and malty. There are some subtle Ruggles hops in the finish, but it is well restrained, as this style should be. Carbonation is noticeably low, as it should be. Davidson Bros really nailed this style. This is a superb and genuine English bitter. The 7.7% abv is well controlled, and one doesn’t ever notice its presence. Balance and finish are perfect with this beer. It is never too sweet. What a great brew.
