Lompoc Brewing Reviews

Lompoc Cimmerian - Port Barrel 3.9
Port Barrel Aged Cimmerian 8% Pint at Imazato. A cola black with ruby accents and a cherry coke, mild oak and malt aroma. Medium bodied. The flavor is sweet port, vanilla, mild oak and smooth with a bit of heat. This was very drinkable and as it warmed up became more flavorful but retained a wonderful balance.

From a bottle, ice cold. Pretty good beer. Nice color and aroma. Definitely tastes like a red. Appreciate this brewery being part of the Portland scene.

Lompoc Big Bang Red - Port Barrel Aged 3.2
On tap at Craft Cafe Imazato, Osaka, as Port Barrel-Aged Cimmerian. L: a deep red mahogany, quite clear, almost no head. S: booze straight off the top, port red wine, a hoppy note. T: a straight up vinious flavour, with a bit of fizz, like a cheap cask Lambrusco. Unfortunately not many notes of beer, I wouldíve liked some malt to back this more. F: feels more wine than beer, sweet port warmth, a slightly bitter backing. O: I was lead to believe this would go down like a barley wine, but it really lacked any body or character to match that style. A sharp port alcohol note was the main thing it had going for it.

Lompoc Pamplemousse Citrus IPA 4
Great beer. I expected more grapefruit but was very satisfied with the citrus presented. This beer is citrus forward, but gives wayto a mellow finish. Classic NE IPA refreshment. This is my first Lompoc and I will enjoy another soon.

Lompoc Old Tavern Rat 3.9
Draft at uber. Never really thought much of lompoc, but Luttonm and others tell me Iím missing out, so hereís another go. 2014. Medium amber pour, some head. Aroma is classic toffee/plum/dark fruit and oxidation barleywine. Tastes nice - moderate sweetness, dry herbal somewhat oxidized finished. Full body. Slick texture. Overall: my deScriptions arenít exactly glowing with praise, but this is solid -- definitely better than average.

Sarlacc83
Lompoc Pamplemousse Citrus IPA 3.3
Bottle from New Seasons. A: Cloudy orange with a thin bubbly white head. Lacing. N: Ruby grapefruit, lemon juice, and tart oranges. Pine, earth, and cracker underneath. More citrus elements. T: Tart, bitter, and very lightly crackery. M: Medium-light, dry body, no alcohol presence, crisp carbonation. O: Decent IPA. I like the idea, but the execution suffers a bit because the grapefruit juice doesnít add another layer of complexity. Perhaps itís the hop bill used or they needed more dry-hopping, but it comes off as just another IPA.

Lompoc Monster Mash Porter 3.7
Cola brown/black with a tan head. Aroma is brown and toasty but will emerge as it warms. Taste is tootsie roll sweet and nutty which carries into the finish. Not much to it, but it is easy to drink and neither cloying or alcoholic for such a big beer. $5.5/22 oz ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Lompoc Saison díEvolution 3
Bottle:   Darker straw in color, hazy, large frothy off-white head, clumpy lacing.   Peppery nose right up front.   Bright, but not really barnish or floral.   It comes across as a bit shrubby with peppercorns.   Maybe a little mountain mustiness, but its not your traditional barnish/floral type Saison.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Finishes with a strong peppercorn (pink perhaps) and mountain shrub background.   An odd Saison, and not very traditional.

Lompoc Monster Mash Porter 3.5
Bomber 8% from Capital Market. Very dark brown on the pour. Almost black in my goblet. Looked a little thin while pouring. Straightforward roasted malty nose with a little coffee and not much in the way of sweetness. Roasted malty flavor up front with a nice coffee finish. Fairly sweet with a good deal of milk sugar flavor. A bit of a hop kick as well. Pretty solid.

Lompoc Saison díEvolution 3.8
Super hazy and cloudy golden and orange coloured body with tints of honey and straw, all with a large, slightly soapy tan head, about seven centimetres tall. Aroma of grass, hay, bananas, wheat, soap and tons of yeast and sediment - nice and funky. Medium to Full-bodied; Very yeastie flavour with some bread and dough noticeable coupled with a more pungent banana, clove, coriander seed and herbal element showing through. Aftertaste is rather robust and full-bodied with the yeast and wheat really coming through at the end along with some honey and fruit sweetness, a slight grass and herbal finish as well. Overall, a good and enjoyable saison that shows a lot of carbonation and movement and a lot of yeast and breadie notes as well. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Belmont Station in Portland, Oregon on 03-May-2015 for US4,46 sampled at home in Washington on 05-September-2015.

Lompoc Special Draft (LSD) 3.9
22 oz bottle poured. Pours cola like, dark brown with a fizzy off white head. Hop forward aroma. Flavor is just the opposite with a heavy malt, slight spice, light smoke, and caramel. A lot of different flavors going on here. Hops come back late. Overall this is an interesting beer to me. Little surprised to see the strong ale tag on a beer under 7%, but I donít make the rules, nor do I usually understand them. No matter what it is, I enjoyed this beer.

Lompoc C-Note 3.2
Bottle from Berts Growler Garage. Label lists as Imperial, ABV says IPA...good catch, moderators. Pours out nice dark copper with soft, airy head. Astringent hops rule the aroma, and taste too. Body seems on the light side, finishes fairly abruptly also. Seems like it could have been a bit bigger with a touch of something else, but what?

Sarlacc83
Lompoc Lemon Rye-zome Pale Ale 3.1
Tap at Oaks Bottom A: Clear amber color, firm white head, lacing. N: Lemongrass, grapefruit, rye, peppercorn, soapiness, lots of pine and loam, grass and straw. T: Highly bitter, then deeply sweet. M: Medium body, slightly resinous, prickly carbonation. O: A very potent pale ale. The lemongrass makes its mark, but Iím not sure that this shouldnít marketed as a Rye IPA. Decent stuff that could use some taming.

Lompoc Saison díEvolution 3.3
Draft at Oaks Bottom A: Light brown, rising bubbles, thin white head, no lacing. N: Esters, straw, white peppercorn, toffee, some fig, straw, wheat, grass, and an almost marshmallow like sweetness. T: Quite sweet; light bitterness. M: Medium light body, slick, no alcohol. O: Solid saison. Not quite dry or funky enough to hit a higher echelon for me, but not something Iíd avoid, either.

Lompoc Lemon Rye-zome Pale Ale 3.1

Lompoc Fechter Brau Pilsner 2.6
On tap at Fifth Quadrant, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out skunky grassy notes and maybe some toasted grains. Flavour is along the same lines - pretty vegetal, grassy notes, with almost a stale quality. Not too impressive.

On tap at Fifth Quadrant, pours a hazy orange amber with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out massive smoky notes - not getting anything else on the nose. Flavour is all smoke, with no hint of cherry or anything else. Pure dry smoke. Okay for what it is, but not a complex or refined beer.

Lompoc Saison díEvolution 3.7
Bomber from Belmont Station. Pours a gold which seems lightly orange tinged with a decent near-white head. Aroma is more suggestive of wit than saison. Med + body - foamy carbonation helps that. Flavor is Belgian yeast/spice, itís earthy, even earthy +. Fruit esters are pretty low key, but I think I get light stone fruits. Itís very much towards dry, and it seems to have a little hop. Works for me.
