Looks good. Caramel with some sweetness on the nose, low dry grain. Taste starts with cardboardy dry bitterness. Citrus background. Dusty cardboard dry at the palte in the second part. Not so good. Schlenkerla29	3 Pfungstädter St. Nikolaus Dunkles Rotbraun hat der St.Nikolaus Bock der Pfungstädter Brauerei vorzuweisen. Eingemachte Kirschen mit Brotkruste und Rosinen, dazu etwas Sirup und eine milde herbale Hopfung bestimmen den wahrhaft reichhaltigen Duft. Der weiche Antrunk erweist sich als breit dunkelmalzig mit umgehend einsetzender sirupartig-karamelliger Süße. Eine malzige Bittere und eine gar nicht mal so knappe herbale Hopfung geben sich zu erkennen. Die Süße wie auch die Rezenz sind dankbarerweise gering, den erhöhten Alkoholgehalt hat man nicht in Gänze überdecken können. Im Abgang warten eine nicht undeutende Malzbittere und eine herbale Hopfennote, welcher eine deutliche Kaffeebittere auf dem Fuße folgt. So hat mir der Nikolaus einen schönen malzschweren, fülligen dunklen Bock mit solider Hopfung beschert. Probierenswert! Thursday, April 20, 2023

Schlenkerla29	2.5 Pfungstädter Edel-Pils Ein blankes, kräftiges Gelbgold wird von genügend kompaktem Schaum gekrönt. Das Pfungstädter Edel-Pils sieht in der Tat nicht unedel aus ... In der Duftprobe kommen frisches Malz und eine matte, etwas anstrengende Hopfenherbe samt blecherner Beinote zum Vorschein. Der Antrunk gestaltet sich unverhofft limonadig, grundsätzlich eher lieblich und sogar etwas süß. Dabei ist der Kohlensäureanteil recht hoch, was natürlich dem Frischeeindruck zugute kommt. Im schlanken Körper zeigt sich der Hopfen nur zögerlich einvernehmlich mit dem Malz und bringt eine gewisse Würzigkeit zustande. Das Pils klingt feinwürzig und leicht blechern aus, wie man es von Industrie-Pilsenern kennt. Wirklich „edel“ am Pfungstädter Edel-Pils ist aus meiner Sicht eigentlich nur die Etikettierung, welche wunderbar zur grünen Flasche passt. Saturday, March 4, 2023

tmoreau	3.9 Pfungstädter St. Nikolaus Shared 500 ml. green bottle poured to house snifters at The Beer Cellar-Glen Ellyn, IL., showing a darkest brown color, with some burgundy/amber highlighting, a presentable layer of off-white froth that reduced to a sudsy ring, light film, and ribbons & spots of lacing. The nose was toast & roast, caramel sweetness, and dark dried fruit. Better than medium bodied, the taste was similar notes, with less sweetness, decent carbonation, some alcohol presence, and roasted & earthy bitterness. Grüne 0,5er Flasche mit typischen Etikett. Im Glas goldgelb mit üppiger Schaumkrone. Es riecht bierig, getreidig. Der Geschmack ist herb würzig, im Mittelteil blitzt eine dezente Süße auf. Der Abgang ist hopfig herb, etwas bitter. Kann mit jedem nordischen Pils mithalten. Mein Ding ist es jetzt nicht unbedingt. Sunday, December 18, 2022
