Three Floyds War Mullet
Bottle Erica brought back for me from her trip to 3 Floyds. Pours dark orange with a medium white head. Sweet and malty smell, brown sugar, some dank hops. Taste is full and sweet with bread, fruits and hops. Palate is oily and full. Overall a tasteful and complex beer. Good stuff!

Three Floyds Hopped In Half
22 ounce bottle
A solid Three Floyds release snuck its way into the fridge after being randomly discovered on a recent trip to pick up some lighter beers. I believe a bit more body wouldn’t hurt but this steps just far enough outside the typical Three Floyds profile to be interesting and almost worth the cost of a regular bomber.

Aroma / Appearance - A mandarin orange body sits under brisk carbonation. Starch, lemons, and crisp dry hops render a clean bouquet that goes for serenity over abrasiveness.

Flavor / Palate - The crisp texture immediately tickles the texture. Lemon and citrus emerge during a robust transition. Setting itself apart from the average session beer, this one would be a winner in cans or smaller format bottles.

Three Floyds Baller Stout
For 10K, decided to finally open this beer and to enjoy this during the start of the 100th Indianapolis 500. Beer and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway - two things that have given me so much joy in my life (and usually at the same time). Had to wait until the end of "Back Home Again in Indiana" per my tradition. Bottle. Lactic/vinous raisin, cherry, coffee, dark chocolate malt, and wood ash aroma. Black with small tan head. Sweet raisin, creamy coffee, dark chocolate malt, and moderately bitter hay/orange peel. Spectacular balance and body. Aged beautifully. Great way to end 10K and start the next.

Bottle from Kihoskh in Copenhagen. Hoppy smell with citrus, pine and also wort. It actually smelt like walking into a brewery. Similar taste with a hint of grapefruit in the finish. Medium bitterness. Medium body. Light malt base. Probably a bit aged (think it was bottled 50 days from now). but still very nice. Very smooth and easy to drink.

Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout (Aquavit Barrel Aged)
750mL bottle, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma brings out lots of mint from the Aquavit, followed by sweet brown sugary notes. Flavour is intensely sweet, with loads of brown sugar, light minty barrel notes, and light wood. Way too sweet - I don’t know how this is so palatable to people. It’s nice in about a 1-2 oz pour, but anything past that is diabetes inducing. Nice to try, but really, it’s undrinkable sugar.

As is always the case, it is hard to approach a beer with a reputation like this one. If you go in expecting a life changing experience, you can only be disappointed - it’s just a beer. But if you go in looking for a beer, it turns out it is really good! A big, juicy citrus and tropical fruit flavor, backed by a slight malty backbone. Mildly bitter. It’s not complex, but it is very tasty and doesn’t get tiring as you drink it.

Three Floyds The Earl Of Biggleswade - Brandy Barrel (2014)
750mL bottle, bottle 298 / 648, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is huge on the coriander and cardamom upfront, followed by cocoa nibs and light brandy - dominated by the spices. Flavour is likewise dominated by the spices, with loads of coriander and cardamom, followed by light cocoa and brandy. As usual, extremely residual sweetness nearly to the point of being cloying. Very nice for what it is. Drinkable in small quantities.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice large dark brown foamy head. Aroma of rich black chocolates notes with some vanilla and bourbon notes. Taste is a fantastic mix of rich black chocolate notes with some vanilla notes, some residuals sugar notes and some nice bourbon notes that smooth out any rough edges from this beer. Body is full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation and alcohol is not overly apparent. Fantastic complex mix while still keeping an excellent level of drinkability.

Three Floyds Quit Hitting Yourself
(On tap @ Mikkeller Bar Viktoriagade, May 12 2016) Pours viscous pitch black with the barest ring of tan bubbles. Aroma is sweet and heavily vinous, with notes of raw sugar, cocoa, raisinated grapes, sweet red wine, some slight oxidized sherry touches, dark fruit, a touch of soy umami, and faint roasted notes hanging in the back. Flavour follows the nose, quite sweet and vinous with a toffee/dark caramel core, red and fortified wine, dark chocolate, light oak, raisins, dark fruit, nutty oxidation, light to moderate ashy roast. Long fruity, barrel-loaded wine aftertaste. Full and viscous in the mouth with some alcohol apparent. Verging on too much sweetness, and the fortified wine barrels definitely smooth out the roast of the base, but the whole package really is rather elegant in spite of itself.

Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout (Bourbon Vanilla Bean)
2014 vintage. Extremely sweet, and this sweetness gets somewhat unpleasant after drinking too much. By too much I mean about 15oz. The flavor is completely out of balance. This lack of balance is usually a huge minus, but in this case, not necessarily. Loads of vanilla, bourbon, molasses, coffee, marshmallow, brown sugar, chocolate, and syrup in a bottle! Holy hell. Flavor is not overly complex, mouthfeel is thick, and the marshmallow flavor lingers on for a long long time. The flavor develops as the beer warms up. Guys, let this beer chill for at least a couple hours. I don’t know if this beer is "the best stout ever" but it surely is unique and worth trying.

This is much better than a regular DL. The barrel flavor just keeps everything in balance. Regular DL is a sweet mess compared with this whale. Plus the barrel flavor just tastes amazing. It’s still very sweet but drinkable. Had more than half of bottle for myself, and I could drink this like water.

Just tons of molasses, coffee, malt, brown sugar and a bit of dark chocolate plus vanilla blended together in a bottle. Very sweet. Great mouthfeel. A fresh bottle is boozy and messy. It definitely improves after a couple years of aging. Anyway, awesome stout.
