Silver City Brewery Reviews

Silver City Deluxe Malt Liquor 3.4
Draft pour pint to a glass mug, then wrapped in a brown paper bag, per my request. Iím all about proper pours and glassware. Or paperware if you must. Lighter pale golden color with not much head. Malt and soft sweet aroma. Flavor is sweet malt, bit somehow finds a way to be inoffensive. Technically, isnít all beer malt liquor? I still donít get it. Until then, for all beers that get labeled this way, this one tasted better than any that I can remember. I wonder of craft malt liquor will be a thing.

Silver City Ridgetop Red Ale 3.1
Well, it's a red. Don't particularly like it but it'll do. Dark as dark. Muddy. Aight.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate caramel, toffee, and apple. It pours a transparent dark amber with a small off-white head that quickly fades to a minimal film outlined by a thin ring. The flavor starts with moderate caramel and toffee. There is some light fruit in the middle. The finish has light apple and some mild earthy hops. Itís medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, itís good...but a tad sweet for my preferences.

Silver City Fat Woody Scotch Ale 3.6
A very good scotch ale. Pours a deep Amber with little head. Smells of dark fruit, green grapes, plum and whiskey. Taste has a oak and whiskey sweetness, with more dark fruit. Sweet finish. Had in the bottle.

Silver City Ridgetop Red Ale 2.5
Itís a dark amber color with just a smidgen of foam. Smells dominantly of its roasted malt. Taste is the same. Medium bodied with about as much carbonation as youíd expect. All in all, kind of boring and one not.

Silver City Fat Woody Scotch Ale 3.6
8oz draft at Chuckís CD. Caramel or light brown banana is most prominent aspect. Interesting for a Scotch ale. Lightly woodsy, no hoppiness, light bodied, no oak or wood aspects. I like it but I would never call it a Scotch Ale.

Silver City Imperial Stout - Bourbon Barrel 3.5
Tasting at Mattís
Black color, almost no head. Mild aroma of roasted malts and apple. Roasted malt, rather dry compared to expectations, moderate Bourbon barrel presence, and quite sour.
Not a bad beer, but it seems a bit off.

Silver City Imperial Stout - Bourbon Barrel 3.1
Bottle - Woody chemical notes like raw oak. Jet brown with a light brown head. Woody oak an barrel sweetness. Wood is much too aggressive.

Silver City Imperial Stout - Bourbon Barrel 2.7
500mL bottle, pours black with a small beige / tan head. Aroma brings out charred barrels, smoky bourbon, a little coffee, roasted malt and glue. Flavour brings out lots of bourbon, glue, and an oaky chemically note. Pretty hot and abrasive without being undrinkable. The glue is prominent. Not good.

ACHops
Silver City Citra Wet Hop Pale Ale 3.6
22 oz bottle, served in a tulip glass. Pours bright light golden with medium fluffy white head that laces well. Aroma is mild pale malt; earthy, oaky hops. Taste is clean, light, lightly sweet caramel malt; hops are light, earthy, and dank. Does not taste particularly fresh... Very drinkable and tasty pale, or lighter IPA, just doesnít stand out as much as you might hope for a fresh hopped IPA.

Silver City Old Scrooge 4.6
The bottle I had was cellar aged for over a year, mellowing out the hope bitterness to let the malt really come through. Lots of fruit flavor in this beer, especially that of cherries and apricots, apples to a lesser extent. The beer pours a deep, rich copper, almost ruby red with an ephemeral, lacey white head that clings to the side of the glass. The aromas o fruit tell no lie, as they are up front in the taste, but slowly yield to the caramel malts and a hint of chocolate. A month finish makes this barley wine style beer one of the best dessert beers.

Poured from bomber from tavour. Nice head. Aroma of roasted barley. Flavor has slight coffee and chocolate notes. Very much like a Russian imperial stout. Thick sticky finish that lingers.

Silver City Solar Sister Triple Wheat IPA 2.1
Draft pour at Brouwers Hop Mob. Pours a cloudy orange color with a foaming white head. Heavy sweet aroma. Flavor is sugar candy sweet, and very harsh. Something weird happening here. Medicine with hops? Something isnít right here. Going on the retry list, because it was no good this time around.

From tap to pint glass at the The Rock Pizza Renton Appearance: light amber/golden, minimal head, some lacing Aroma: Slight hoppy smell Taste: Bitter with sweetness Mouth feel: a little bit on the fizzy side Overall: Good beer, ok with the pizza, but nothing to get excited Drank: February 11, 2016

Silver City Solar Sister Triple Wheat IPA 1.9
On tap at Brouwerís Cafe, pours a cloudy nearly opaque dark orangey brown with a medium white head. Aroma is hugely abrasive with notes of perfume, resinous hops, some medicinal notes and diacetyl. Flavour is quite off-putting, with an almost sour kind of medicinal quality, some resins in there, diacetyl and perfumey notes. Really off the mark - very abrasive shit.

CheersMate
Silver City Imperial Stout 3.7
22 oz. bottle from the Northgate Total Wine. Seems like theyíve come out with new labels for most, if not all, of their beers. The 1st thing I smell, when I smell this beer, is Great Divideís Yeti. In fact, looking at a lot of the Yeti clone recipes, I see similar ingredients. Iíd imagine that the recipes are close, hence the very curious similarities between the two beers in all attributes. The aroma is quite pungent, and great smelling: roast, hints of ash, chocolate, licorice, pine, and syrup. The flavor is much the same, as the aforementioned. Thereís a bit of a pronounced piny bitterness at first, but then it settles to a nice sweet chocolate roast flavor. Thereís a lingering bitterness that holds, but it blends well with the sweetness to balance it all out. Where I think Yeti wins, however, is the texture. The texture here isnít that of Yetiís, and I prefer Yetís texture a little more. The pour isnít as inky, either, but this is still a solid, roast-forward imperial stout. Good stuff.

A decent beer, but a bit one note. Pours a very nice ruby red with little head. Smells of cherry and cider. Taste is similar, like smooth cherry cider, with white wine, some Jolly Rancher, vanilla and a sweet finish. Would be good with seafood. Had in the bottle.

Silver City Fat Scotch Ale 3.3
Draught at CBM. Starts off nicely with a silky body, pleasant scotch and smokey notes, then peat and tobacco kind of take over and finish is on the boozy side. Not the smoothest scotch ale, kind of struggled towards the end of the glass.

Silver City Wonderland (Winter Bock) 3.8
Draft pour pint at Frankies Pizza. I remember looking for this style way harder than i needed to. Very unique, and this one is no exception. Pours a dark ruby tinted brown with a rocky foam head. Rich malt and spiced aroma. Thick body for a lager. Quite surprised. Thick, malty, chocolate flavor with a cool, rich finish. Overall a tasty beer.

Inviting aroma, pours beautifully and tastes like a fine red ale. A slightly off lingering aftertaste is all that stand between this beer being on of my favorite reds. Definitely sessionable.

Very pale golden with a white head. Rather soft aromatic features. Sweet fruit, light vanilla, a bit spicy in the background, strong wine notes, and light oak. Finishes heavy on the booze and wine side. Interesting enough but lacking much complexity. Very soft features overall. I want to like this more than I do.

Silver City The Giant Made of Shadows 3.5
Sample at Hoof Hearted during the Dragonsaddle Triple IPA Can Release on 11/15/2015. The beer is a dark brown color with some amber around the edges, and a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lace. Fruit, yeast and malt in the nose. Medium to full body with flavors of earthy yeast, dark fruit and grainy malt. The finish is vine fruits with a short yeast aftertaste. Decent overall.

Nothing like Fat Bastard. Wow. Tart cherries and dark fruit over what was once a very sweet beer. High carb, nice and dusty, with significant tannins from the barrels. Lovely.

Silver City Imperial Stout - Bourbon Barrel 4
2014 vintage. Poured from a bomber on 12.05.15. A: Bourbon, dark fruit, milk chocolate, and vanilla. A: 1 finger tan head that recedes to a ring and small swirls of foam. Black body with quite a lot of red in the glass. T: Bourbon and peanuts are dominant. Cherry cough syrup, coffee, and milk chocolate are subtle. P: Creamy smooth. O: The first half of the bomber had no bourbon flavor. It had been sitting for almost a year, but itís still weird. The rest of it was nice and complex.

Silver City Oktoberfest 3

Silver City Old Scrooge - Bourbon Barrel 4.2
2014 vintage. Poured on 12.03.15. A: Bourbon, vanilla, oak barrel, peanuts, and candied dark fruit. The aromas are nicely strong. A: 1/2 head recedes to a ring and a spot of foam. Very dark red body. T: Bourbon, vanilla, oak, peanuts, cherry cough syrup, and brown sugar dominate. Pear, anise, caramel, and banana are subtle. P: Oily and smooth. Slightly astringent, but less so than the base beer probably from the time in the barrel. O: While the barrel flavors are nice in this one, the base version is actually more complex and flavorful.

Dark with a beige head. Chocolate, vanilla, oak, molasses malt, bourbon in the aroma. The body is a bit thinner than expected. Chocolate, caramel malts, a bit of bourbon, light booze. A good brew. I was expecting little more complexity and the body is a little too thin, but itís tasty none the less.
