Cervecería Boliviana Nacional (AB-InBev) Reviews

Paceña Pilsener La Paz 1.7
Bottle in a golden foil. simply named Pacena Cerveza (Imported to Spain). Has 4.8% so I assume that I’m right here. When icecold some mineral aromas, watery. The more warmer it gets the more rotten it tastes. awful. I see 5 gold medals on the cover. The jury must have been drunk...

Paceña Pilsener La Paz 3.2
11.8 oz foiled wrapped bottle served in a pint glass. 4.8% ABV. Pours clear golden with lots of visible carbonation. The head is white, a bit sudsy, and quite durable. Frankly, I had rather low expectations for this beer but it is actually good ... not exceptional but a solid pilsner lager with decent balance and no obvious flaws others than those one might attribute tot he style itself. Lightly sweet up front and more balanced by the finish and leaves a mildly bitter and moderately hoppy aftertaste. Light body with suitable carbonation.

Paceña Centenario 2.4
Bottle shared at the Bruery. Pours perfectly clear pale yellow with a frothy, white head. Lovely cheap pale lager, with notes of paper, light cereal, hay and white bread. Light bodied with average carbonation. Lightly sweet to conclude, with more paper notes, crispy cereal. Just about what you would expect.

Paceña Pilsener La Paz 2.3
Pale yellow color with fast decaying foam. The smell is sweet and malty. The taste has a sugar sirup sweetness. Even though the carbonation is quite lively, the taste resembles old flat beer. The aftertaste is okay. Not a very good beer.

Paceña Pilsener La Paz 2.1
Pours a glass full of gold content with a small (just about a finger) white head that quickly settles to only a small lacing. The aroma is gentle. There is some malt and also some grains. Also some sour aroma is noticeable. The taste is slightly sweet at first but the body is completely bland with no real finish. Lacks some bitterness and is slightly watery. Drinkable, but not much to the taste. Refreshing

El Inca Bi-Cervecina 2.5
My Bottom Line:
Furious bubbling sets the stage for whirling toast, earth, spice and caramel, as Coca Cola impressions are enhanced with every sip.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam tops the brown gown.
-This was drunk in La Paz (very high altitude), which might explain the intense carbonation upon the first sips.
-This is actually drinkable.... for those who like soft drinks.
-Hops are a complete no show.

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Paceña Black 2.4
My Bottom Line:
Molasses and some roastiness lead to an expected sugary finish in this tranquil puddle of a brew.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the clear dark brown.
-This almost tastes like an alcoholized Malta.
-Black beans appear after a while.
-This is too sweet to be drinkable.
-Needless to say, this brew lacks depth.

Paceña Centenario 3.1
My Bottom Line:
Straw and crackers share the spotlight in this timid and dry brew.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A fluffy head of foam covers the clear pale gold.
-There is nothing offputting in this brew, which is rather surprising when one tastes their competition.
-Drinkability is obviously very high; it is their main concern, after all.
-Hops are a no show.
-The soft effervescence and slender sugars make for a pleasant mouthfeel.

I like the semisweet taste of the malt and the alcohol content is just enough to not make you drunk.

El Inca Bi-Cervecina 0.7
Negra. Espuma ocre. Aroma plano. Sabor malteado, pero extraordinariamente dulce, pura azucar. No tnego claro si es cerveza. Desde luego si solo existiera esta en el mundo yo no estaria escribiendo esto ahora.

Paceña Centenario 1.8
Pajiza ultraclara. Mucha burbuja fina. Buena espuma. Aroma poco agradable, afortunadamente muy escaso. Muy ligera, aguada. Dulzona sacarina. Final amargo algo metálico. Floja.

El Inca Bi-Cervecina 2.2
Nice appearance with lingering head and a dark brown body, plenty of carbonation visible. Aroma is very soft malts and coffee. Flavour is intense low-alcohol sweetness with a sugary finish. Surprisingly this contains alcohol, which is a huge hit as it would work much better as a zero alcohol drink.

Paceña Ice 1.2
Has no aroma to speak of. It has barely any head and a boring yellow body. Flavour is a whole lot of nothing with a hint of lemon. Oily finish. It’s a bad light beer, so sad, so predictable.
Wednesday, June 03, 2015

Paceña Black 2.9
Found at a café in Sucre. Aroma is soft scotch and sweet oak. It has a nice black body with a resonating head. Flavour is a complex but disorganized mess of licorice and molasses with a hint of brown sugar. Medium finish. It’s a good effort but needs a fair bit of tweaking.
Wednesday, June 03, 2015

Huari Pilsener 2
Aroma is strong hops and rotten cardboard. Has a bleach white head and bright yellow body, very artificial even for pilsener-lager things. Flavour is soft fruits, it’s almost refreshing. Almost. Medium finish. This one’s a weak lager but not an awful one.
Wednesday, June 03, 2015

Paceña Bock 1.8
Aroma is strong fruity hops with slight fusel hints. Has an okay gold body with minimal head. Flavour is corn adjuncts hidden by rice products. Oily palate. This one is no one’s friend. Its a skeezy malt liquor.
Wednesday, June 03, 2015

Paceña Pilsener La Paz 1.4
Rotten hops aroma with a fluffy fast disappearing head and a bright yellow body. Flavour is sour cardboard with a hint of lemon; watery finish. Try Bolivia’s wines while you’re here and you won’t be so hugely disappointed.
