De Cam Lambiek Special
750ml bottle. Thank you, Karel!. Golden yellow colour. Modest white head which disappears quite quickly. Hints of apples, gooseberries, hints of other berries, vinegar, hints of white wine, hints of rowan berries, buckthorn, smooth liqeury notes and earthiness in the aroma. Rich! Gooseberries, applewine at first. Sourness and acidity in the middle. Hints of berries and wine in the end. Berries and sourness in the aftertaste. The palate is very rich and mouthfeel is also nice. Rather medium bodied, great fruit lambic.

De Cam Nectarine Lambiek
750 ml bottle to snifter. Looks good; a slightly cloudy lemony pineapple with white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells oaky and funky with lots of unaversive baby shit. Tastes like it smells with a nice nectarine presence as well. A hint of butter on the finish, but not aversively so. Enjoyable.

9/VIII/16 - 75cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: n/a, bottled: 2009 (2016-819)

Very murky cloudy deep ruby red to purplish beer, small creamy pink to orange head. Lots of residue, both in the glass (it’s like freshly squeezed fruit juice!) and on top of the foam. Holy moly, how many cherries are in this bottle? :o Aroma: very fruity, krieken all the way! Funky wood notes, bit lemony. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: so much krieken! An overload of cherries, yet nothing sweet or artificial at all!! Little bitter, some tannins, soft acidity, some almonds. Aftertaste: wood notes, bit sourish, little bitter in the finish, shitload of cherries again. What a beer!

750ml Bottle in the garden, 7th August 16. Pours an attractive pink, no carbonation, as expected, given this lambiek. Aroma is berries, funk, sour, cellar. Taste is full, tart raspberries, not amazingly complex, but tasty. More and more, I prefer the Krieks to the Raspberries...

De Cam Lambiek Special
De Cam Lambiek Special ’15 vintage Pours a bright blood red color, with just an orange hint in it, together with a medium sized, fizzy head, which vanishes completely after a few moments. Offers a young, yet profound funkiness, consisting of wet hay, blue cheese and glue, balanced by a citrus crispness. This foundation experiences a soft flower and grass aspect on top, leading to very unripe currants, raspberries and earthy cherries. Very complex with a character defining tartness, in which the fruits slowly find to their way. Has a higher carbonation, complimenting to the beers refreshing appearance, with a soft finish, in which the fruits shine, being able to unfold their facetts, guided by the preveiling tartness. Tastes of a surprisingly sweet initial fruitiness, reminding me of dried currants, wild berry jam and sugar coated cherries. This first impression lasts only for a split second though, since the beers omnipresent tartness evolves on the tongue rapidly, accompanied by a cheesy and leathery funkiness. It never looses its soft, aqueous, slightly mineralic mouthfeel, which makes this complex and easily enjoyable at the same time, and actually allows the fruits to contribute more than just their easily picked up tartness. More moldy, earth coated stone pit qualities cut through after the swallow, once the dust settles and all the carbonation has rushed through, building up a silk fruit richness. Its got a faint jam aspect, which could also be a hint of the ripeness of the fruits, with a prickly pulp tartness adding to the silkness. Awesome Lambic, unfolding a rollercoaster of flavors on the tongue, due to its world class mouthfeel. Its carbonation level plays a huge role in the perception of the fruits in this, opening up the palate to more and more subtle nuances, the longer it is on the palate. Its finish is a real highlight as it opposes the contrary of everything experienced so far, its very calm and nuanced, almost still, while its previous effervescence is still on my mind.

(Bottle, 0.75 l - bottling date penned over, at Gastropub Tuulensuu, 20160806) A gusher which resulted in a cloudy beer. The head was small and white. Aroma had tartness, raspberries, wood and sourness. Palate was medium bodied and dry with medium medium carbonation. Flavours were sourness, tartness, raspberries, wood and low bitterness. Aftertaste was very sour and tart. A good lambic with berries.

Head gone in seconds, fully hazy yellow-ochre beer. Lemon, horseblanket, sulphur, later dim-sum dough, very weird. Lemon, horseblanket, and again this dough-y flavour (really, can’t help it - dim sum keeps cropping up), but nice. Not everybody makes the Chinese connotation, I must add. Lipsmacking acidity, yet mild on matter of acidburn. Medium carbonation. Special, not much nectarine to detect, but way pleasant enough. Thanks to Louis!

De Cam Nectarine Lambiek
Limited release of a lambic made with nectarines (so smooth-skinned peaches), from a 75 bottle bearing nothing but a narrow red label on the neck with the name on it. Loose and bubbly, snow white, quickly dissolving and eventually vanishing head, misty straw blonde colour with deep golden hue and vivid sparkling. Soft lambic aroma in which a whiff of nectarine sweetness is recognizable, amidst all the funky odours one can expect from the style, unripe plum, moldy lemon, sour cream, old sherry, white grapes, yoghurt, some stale urine but not disturbing. Very estery and fruity flavor, again a thin trace of the nectarine sweetishness embedded in esters (redcurrant, plum, gooseberry) and a lemony sourness but not puckering, rather soft (’mals’) and more sedate lactic sourness drying the mouth over a pleasantly bready barley and wheat backbone becoming even breadier in the end due to yeast; the thin accent of lemon acidity lingers in the back of the mouth. Nectarine flavor is noticeable in this one, but not too explicitly so; it is, in all, a soft but bone dry and very tasty lambic by all means, adding something new to an already vast array of fruits used in artisanal lambics. Hugely enjoyed this.

Appearance: Dark red down color with very little head Aroma: Rich red wine with prominent but not overwhelming cherry. A bit like cherry Robitussin. Taste: Rich and chewy cherry malt with some cotton candy. Really pronounced oaky finish has some cotton candy Overall: This was a 2016 so still many years for more complexity to develop. May be a bit too medicinal for some folks.

750 ml bottle. Pours light hazy light golden. Slight carbonation forming a fine ring with the glass. Nutty and almondy aroma (most probably coming from the stone), buttery, grainy. Oily medium body, tiny carbonation. Peach and nectarine faintly coming through in the flavour, aftertaste is dry, and small butter touch.

De Cam Lambiek Special
750ml bottle. Unclear sunset amber with a few wisps of white head that are soon gone. Aroma: shame I can read the fruit blend, but it’s obviously cherries and something else - I guess the blackberries fatten and add bracken, the goosegogs acidity and a mellow juiciness. But neither are obvious (not any any means a criticism). And after a while nor are the cherries. Spicy funk, almonds and a lovely tired woodiness. Slight feral green twiggy/ shoe polish note that is OK but suggests problems to come (wrongly, it turns out). A fair bit of body. Low carbonation. Lovely brooding autumnal flavours with damp hay, decaying wood, mellow berries; perked up by zingy gooseberry acidity, ripe cherries, spices. Finish is long and fades towards gentle fruit that you almost forget how punchily sour it starts. Very beautiful.

75cl bottle bought direct from De Cam. Had a taste at the brewery with warning from the brewer that it smells of wet horse blankets. Not as acidic as straight lambic and possibly not as sour but very drinkable nonetheless. Definitely unusual and worth a try if you like this type of thing. Bought 12 bottles, so looking forward to how it ages.

From notes. Enjoyed at Doug’s house for the Epic Peach and Apricot debacle of a tasting that happened on July 9. 750 mL bottle. The pour is a murky orangey gold color with no head or sign of carbonation. This is a little different. The aroma is interesting. There is a tart vinegar right up front and a bit of yeast, barnyard, light fruit skin, and a bit of dried hay. It’s messy. The flavor is much of the same. There is a light stone fruit to it, but it’s overshadowed. There is a little bit of leather on top of the barnyard and an oaky funk. The mouth feel is oily and flat as fuck. There is no carb at all, and that’s an issue I believe. The aftertaste is lingeringly oaky and funky. There isn’t much good happening here.

De Cam Kriek Lambiek
2009 De Cam Kriek Lambiek paired with a bowl of cherries. Will this be cherry overkill? Let's find out! This lambic pours a deep mauve, kind of purple brown with a fuzzy pink head they vanished fast. The aroma is incredibly aceitic vinegar cherry with some acidity and barrel woodsiness. The taste is tart, oaky, nutty, cherry, vinegar, some sweetness and acidity with a dry finish. The fresh cherry sweetness, cuts through the vinegar by accentuates the acidic nature of the finish. I think I served it a tad too warm so I've got more chilling in the fridge or it may be at an odd moment in it's cella ring evolution. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

75cl bottle @ Finissons ces pétroles tasting, merci Niels. L21-2016. Dorée, col fin blanc retombant assez rapidement.

De Cam oude Geuze ’13 Vintage consumed on 160708 Pours a clear amber-orange color with a bubbly, medium head, which turns out to be unusual stable. Smells of a profound funkiness, entangled into dried apple peel and dusty, old oak. Has a mineralic stony quality with wet mushrooms and a flowery grassiness to it. White bread and sour lemon pulp compliment both to the pungent funk in this, establishing an awesome, aromaful nose, which is hard to compare to any of the other Lambic. Has a lively but fitting carbonation and an utmost refreshing light body, revealing tons of flavor nuances. This creates an ever developing taste, which focusses throughout on its taste defining sourness. Tastes of moldy earth, old apple peel, wet stones and a juicy lemony whiff. The lemon turns more flavorful after this initial stage, opening up the palate to a well dosed sourness, defining the flavors without getting close to numbing the tongue. Apple gets a tad sweeter during the finish with an aqueous softness, wrapped up by crisp lemon peel. Drinks very nice, full of fruit supported funk with a bright, soft finish, soothing the sourness without loosing any character. Moldy, matured white wine characteristics get combined with crisp lemon and create an inciting potential.

375ml Bottle, 2009 vintage. A hot day like today calls for a refreshing lambic so I cracked my 2009 Oude Geuze from De Cam. 6.5% and a crystal clear deep gold with an incredible nose of oak, lemon, ripe bananas(?), and a peppery/woodsy funk. Medium bodied with a sharp carbonation and a dry finish. The taste is tart, acidic, tannic oak, white pepper and very dry. Man this hits the spot. If you’re a fan of lemonade on a hot day then grab a geuze to enjoy.
