Kuhnhenn Fourth Dementia (4D) Old Ale
2009 vintage bottle shared by alexsdad06 pour hazy dark copper with minimal tan head. Nose salt water taffy, caramel, light woody. Some vegetal and rubbing alcohol. Taste grape jolly rancher, caramel, light vegetal. Taste better than the nose. Still imagine this is better fresh.

Kuhnhenn Triple Rice India Pale Ale (TRIPA)
Bottle shared. One year aged (as in forgotten in the fridge). The combo of rice and ageing really seems to have helped mellow down the extreme hoppiness, very nice and smooth mouthfeel, very much like a classic tasty ipa that totally hide a devilish abv, fun!

Kuhnhenn Fourth Dementia (4D) Old Ale
Bottle from LCBO many moons ago. Bottled in 2012. Deep reddish brown. Not much of a head. Superb strong aroma of caramel and toffee and toasted marshmallow. Caramel and toffee flavours, with some lingering toasted marshmallow and a hint of oak. Reminds me of Thomas Hardy barleywine. Fantastic stuff.

Kuhnhenn Wildberry Shiraz Pyment
Bottle received in trade. Thank you Brandon! Pours clear ruby red leaving some subtle legs on the glass with a swirl. Smell is fruity and floral with honey, red berries, light dark grapes, minerals and hints of alcohol. Taste is slightly sweet, very tiny sour, slightly fruity, tiny floral and tiny earthy. Mouthfeel is round, tiny dry, tiny berry skin astringent, very tiny tart, tiny boozy and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and slightly sour with floral honey, tart red berries, juicy dark grapes, moist moss, minerals and hints of alcohol. Subtle and very elegant with lots of red berries and complex fine wine mineral character. Possibly a bit lacking in the mouthfeel but I feel that’s nitpicking.

Kuhnhenn Triple Rice India Pale Ale (TRIPA)
Bottle shared. Thanks Gregg! Hoppy nose with almost a coriander herbal aspect alongside some faint honey. The rice really lightens the body up well. Feels very Belgian in the mouth. Silky and smooth. Clean finish that hides the abv fairly well. Very nice.

Kuhnhenn Solar Eclipse Imperial Stout
2007 bottle. The aroma is chocolate and vanilla. Pours a dark, dark brown with fully diminishing light brown head and good lacing. The taste is sweet and bitter. The body is full. The texture creamy, the carbonation lively/fizzy, the finish bitter, some funkiness going on here. This probably aged too long, hits hard, has a lot going on but just doesn’t satisfy like a normal RIP. Good!

Kuhnhenn Triple Rice India Pale Ale (TRIPA)
Pours golden, clear, bit of white foam. Aroma is fresh, herbal hops, feels quite clean. Tastes aggressively bitter, yet light and easygoing, extremely well executed triple IPA. 12 percent of alcohol is nowhere to be seen. If you told me it has 6 percent abv I would believe you. Amazing. Nice bitter linger in the finish.

Kuhnhenn Triple Rice India Pale Ale (TRIPA)
This is insanely light body for 12%. Nice crackery malt character, slightly boozy in the nose, but the body has low carbonation, super smooth and amazingly light for the alcohol. A bit of rye character, very very well put togehter. I would assume a 9% IIPA, but light bodied. This is really interesting.

Kuhnhenn Funk Punch
From notes. Enjoyed this at the Kuhnhenn XV Anniversary Party on August 20. This baby was poured from a 15L nebuchandnezzar. This was one of those things that was so cool, I had to look up and get an official name of it! The pour is a clear-ish light pink color with no head or lace left behind. The aroma is really good. It’s like bright peaches and oranges with a hint of funk and a pretty good sweetness on the back end. It’s tart with a nice punchy juiciness. I definitely dig this. The flavor is very similar. There is a little more funkiness to it, but the peachy citrus juices are nice and balanced. I’ve never had a mead with brett, so this is really interesting. The mouth feel is pretty good. There is a light syrupiness to this with a lack of carbonation and a nice lingeringly tart and funky peach with bitter orange peel. It’s a good combo. I like it.

Kuhnhenn Imperial Bourbon Barrel Braggot
From notes. Enjoyed this at the Kuhnhenn XV Anniversary Party on August 20. On draft. The pour is a brighter copper color with a thin ring of white head and no lace. The aroma is where this just falls apart. It’s incredibly boozy. There is a ton of sweet alcohol. The barrel just comes off as wet wood, and adds no quality to this. It smells like a bad tripel. The flavor is just as bad. There is a sweet alcohol and wet barrel stave. It’s just a mess from start to finish. The alcohol is a little lighter on the flavor. The mouth feel is thin and slick no carbonation and it just leaves a terrible taste behind. What the hell?!

Kuhnhenn Root Beet Mead
From notes. Enjoyed this at the Kuhnhenn XV Anniversary Party on August 20. On draft. The pour is a clear darker golden yellow with a decently thick white head that falls down to a thin collar. The aroma is really good. This legit smells like root beer. I love it. It’s light and crisp. There is a light alcohol to it and a slight sweetness. The flavor is a little messier. There’s a bit more syrup and a heftier alcohol. The root beer is definitely there though. It’s good. The mouth feel is light and syrupy with a very light carbonation and a lingeringly sweet root beer spice left on the tongue. This is surprisingly good.

Kuhnhenn Eisbock - Bourbon Barrel Aged
From notes. Enjoyed this at the Kuhnhenn XV Anniversary Party on August 20. On draft. The pour is a dirty ruby-tinted brown color with a thin ring of khaki colored head that vanishes slowly. The aroma is really interesting. This is like bourbon. There is a light maltiness, a decent chocolate, and a hint of vanilla with it, but it’s like a nice sipping bourbon. It’s not that it’s terrible, I think I just like the fruit addition a little more. The flavor is where it shows up a little more potently. There is a light burn with it that just isn’t what I was expecting. The mouth feel is thin and lighter with a nice carbonation and a lingeringly bourbon-forward aftertaste. I don’t hate it, but it’s just a step behind.

Kuhnhenn Raspberry Eisbock - Bourbon Barrel Aged
From notes. Enjoyed this at the Kuhnhenn XV Anniversary Party on August 20. On draft. The pour is a darker golden brown color with a nice pink hue. There is a thin white head that falls to a film. The aroma is much boozier than the blueberry. There is a strong raspberry up front, and then it rolls into a strong bourbon barrel. There is a lot of oak and a hefty alcohol burn. The flavor is much of the same. There is a nice fruitiness that is dormant against the barrel and alcohol. The mouth feel is definitely syrupy and yet thin at the same time. There is a nice carbonation on it, but the aftertaste is light fruit and booze. It’s really interesting how different this is from the blueberry.

Kuhnhenn Blueberry Eisbock - Bourbon Barrel Aged
From notes. Enjoyed this at the Kuhnhenn XV Anniversary Party on August 20. On draft. The pour looks like freaking blueberry yogurt. It’s dark purple and murky with brighter purple ring of head that just sits there. The aroma is good. There is a strong blueberry puree right up front that settles down a touch, leading to a nice oakiness and a subtle alcohol on the back end. This is really good. I think the bourbon needs to relax just a little bit. The flavor is really good as well. Excellent blueberry dominance with a fainter bourbon and a little oak influence on it. The mouth feel is surprisingly thin for how this beer looks. It looks like it’ll drink like yogurt, but it’s thin. There is a soft carbonation and a lingeringly alcohol soaked blueberry on the finish. Really good.

Kuhnhenn Double Barrel French Toast
From notes. Enjoyed this at the Kuhnhenn XV Anniversary Party on August 20. Oh my holy god. From a 3L jeroboam (double magnum). The pour is a bright golden yellow, crystal clear with no head and no lace at all, just sticking to the glass. The aroma is great. Cinnamon, maple, everything you want about French toast. There is a hint of bourbon and booze with a touch of spicy rye here. It’s just spectacular. The flavor is out of this world. Bright cinnamon and maple, and somehow, it tastes like fucking French toast in your mouth. It’s so good. There is a sweetness, a light spice, and a hint of alcohol. It’s unbelievably balanced and so good. The mouth feel is thick and syrupy with a lack of carbonation and it just coats your mouth. This is spectacular. Top to bottom, this is just top notch. I wish I was able to get a second pour. Fuckin’ a.
