Kuhnhenn Meanwhile... Apricot Chamomile Mead
From notes. Enjoyed at Dougs house for the Epic Peach and Apricot debacle of a tasting that happened on July 9. 375 mL bottle. The pour is a pale gold color with no head and inherently no lace. It looks a little dark for what I was expecting, but its not bad. The aroma is really boozy. There is a light apricot and the chamomile is really powerful. The honey is there, and there is a light spiciness to it. The flavor is chamomile based for sure. There is a light apricot and the honey come through after that. Its dry and boozy. The mouth feel is syrupy and non-carbonated with a lingeringly honey covered apricot. Its really sweet and hot. I think it needs some time, but who knows. It was an interesting break from the barrage.

Kuhnhenn Fourth Dementia (4D) Old Ale - Bourbon Barrel
Kuhnhenn 4th D - unfortunately I have no idea which vintage this is, due to a missing vintage label: stored it in the fridge for about a year. Pours a dark brown color with a quickly disappearing khaki brown head. Smells of unsweetened coconut shell, earth and scented wood, enriched by dried grapes and old oak. Offers a nice Bourbon spiciness which gets entangled into toasted nuts and grilled corn. Surprisingly earthy, focussing on the barrel without turning just a tad too sweet, creating a spicy, warm complexity on the nose which is awesome. Drinks truly soft, establishing a great silkness, which unfolds the Bourbon in all its powerfull facets. Its hot bite gets balanced by the rich toasty malt base, creating a powerful, complex beer. Tastes of sugar glazed malts, a hint of licorice, dusty woodbark and toasty, bready malts. Spicy, sweet cinnamon and bakers chocolate add to the malt backbone, while a warming Boubon sharpness slowly becomes more and more recognizable. Ends sweet with a well integrated booziness, showcasing even more tongue tickling spices and toasty toffee malts. Finished very clean and soft, with a heavy Bourbon appearance defining the taste. Masterfully balanced, intense beer, reminding of a Barley Wine at first glance, which from there on transforms into something different. All flavors work very harmoniously together, exhibiting a slowly uprising Bourbon sweetness which reveals a respectable amount of earth and bread. At its peak sweet toffee and scented wood add to the taste, never forgetting its rustic, bready roots. Finishes utmost clean after revealing its breathtaking complexity, calm after unleashing an intense flavor storm on the palate. Despite its taste intensity the beer drinks incredibly soft and almost easy if it wasnt for the perfectly integrated Bourbon, which works so good with the beers profound malt foundation.

Kuhnhenn Chocolate Raspberry Port Pyment
Bottle. Brown with no head. Fairly sweet with a mix of bittersweet and milk chocolate but a balance is achieved with a nice tartness from fresh raspberries, booze is present but and pleasant on the nose - mild carbonation and fully body, becomes very sweet on the palate with the fruit fading and the chocolate and booze dominating, long sweet finish.

Kuhnhenn Ginnifer Juniper mead
Bottle share, thank you Toby. Golden color with no real head. Lots of spice in the aroma; heavy gin and juniper notes, duh. Some ginger and vanilla too. Complex flavors swirl there is lots going on here. Strong in the gin and juniper department, but softly sweet honey and vanilla. Nice medium-thick body pairs well with the swirling flavors.

Kuhnhenn Raspberry Truffle Shuffle
Bottle... Pours murky and looks like prune juice. The aroma features sour raspberries, chocolate and methanol with a small splash of sherry. Medium to full-bodied and fairly flat only a trace of carbonation. The flavor is bittersweet and medicinal. This tastes like cough syrup. Not enjoyable at all. I wish this braggot would die. Die braggot die!

Kuhnhenn American Imperial Stout - Bourbon Barrel
Bottle... Pours cloudy and dark brown, but sits black with a tiny, creamy, tanned head. The aroma is roasty and charred with a moderate amount of bourbon. Medium to full-bodied with zippy carbonation. Mirroring the nose, the flavor is roasty and charred, but fairly smooth. Kind of thin. The 13.5% abv is not at all apparent. Not much bourbon flavor here. Not much going on in general. Quality brew though. Bottle courtesy of FlandersNed!

Kuhnhenn Fourth Dementia (4D) Old Ale
Shared 0.355l bottle @ Ross flat in NYC . 2010 model. Its a really deep dark brown looking one this. Near what Ill call murky, still good looking and on the top theres a sidesticking off-white head - small lacings. Smells of dark licorice, sweet raisins and wood. Really good stuff. Just below average on the prickling carbonation level and it has a thick oily texture in the mouth. Much the same in the taste: Raisins and rum. I get wood, sweet caramel and its also a little salty. Superb stuff. nothing more to say. 19.06.2015

Kuhnhenn Double Rice India Pale Ale (DRIPA)
Fairly dark in color, medium amber at least. Pretty clear. Off white, sorta creamy head. Lots of caramel malt flavor in the aroma. Fruity, oniony hops. Fairly dank. Orange juice, grapefruit, pine, grass. Some apple cider, mild pineapple. Medium to strong bitterness - havent seen that in awhile with all of these Vermont-ish DIPAs around now. More onion and deeper, danker hop flavors. Lots of caramel malt with a touch of bubblegum. Fairly heavy on the palate. A touch sticky. Sorta boozy. I would have guessed that this beer was over 10% abv. Bit of a disappointment, though.

Kuhnhenn AODH Cherry Bochet
375 mL bottle shared by Gus. Thanks man. I wasnt going to pony up the money for this, but Im glad you shared! The pour is a deep red, somewhat clear, with no head and no lace. It looks pretty damn good for a mead. The aroma is dry and winey. There is a decent cherry to it, and a light sweetness. There is a hefty amount of booze and I do tent to like the sweetness on the end. The flavor is good. There is a lot of cherry, a booziness, and a sweet caramelized honey definitely present. Its interesting and good. A bit winey and dry for my enjoyment, but I like it. The mouth feel is thin and light. There isnt any carbonation, so it drinks watery. The aftertaste is dry red wine and cherry. Its decent. Not the $40 they were asking, but this is a small step above Schramms The Statement (at least the batch I had).

Kuhnhenn Mounds Bar Stout
On draft at the Warren location for the Summer Solstice. The pour is a nice black, light, with a thin ring of light tan head and no lace. The aroma is somewhat like a Mounds bar. There is a light coconut and some messy dark chocolate. It smells like a mounds bar, but its really light and not really in place. The flavor is coconut and chocolate. Its light. There is a mounds bar tendsncy to it, but its light and doesnt carry much complexity. Its light but decent. The mouth feel is thin and watery with a lack of candy really rolling. Its interesting at best. The mouth feel is thin and watery with a thin and light carbonation and a lingering chocolatey finish. There is a light sweet coconut that Im not digging. Eh.

Kuhnhenn Blueberry DRIPA
On draft at Kuhnhenn Warren for the Solstice. The pour is a dirty dark pink light brown color with a thin light khaki head and a bit of strange lace. The aroma is medicinal to every aspect of the word. Light tropically dank hops and a medicinal blueberry just dominate. A little funk really makes this a mess. The flavor is t much better at all. There is a funkiness to the traditional medicinal blueberry syrup, its just bit good, lets be honest. The mouth feel is thin and light with a pretty harsh carbonation and a sharp, unpleasantly medicinal and dry blueberry that Im not a fan of. This is a mess all over. Got damnit.

Kuhnhenn Tenacious Cassis
On draft at Kuhnhenn Warren for the Summer Solstice. The pour is a medium brown, some darker hints shining through. There is a light tan head that falls to a collar leaving a bit of lace. The aroma is. Dry black currant for days. There is just a hint of the actual 5D in here, which is a bummer. Its fruity and sweet, lightly boozy and decent. The flavor is disappointing. Its really thin and dry. The currant is present, but really lacking. The 5D is incredibly thin and leaves a light roastiness. The mouth feel is thin and watery with a light carbonation and a lingering lightly fruity flavor. Light caramel and decent 4D character to it, but its just so messy and light with the addition of currants. Fuck.
