500ml bottle. Pours brass colour with a thick fluffy head. Aroma is lots of grass, pine and perhaps a little citrus. Taste is grass, spice, pine and a little funkiness. It’s not particularly well balanced or anything fancy like that, but it’s pretty damn tasty.

Tuatara Belgian Tripel
Lizard bomber from Liquor King Carlton in Christchurch. Clear bright golden color with a lacy one-finger white head and some effervescent bubbles. Great aroma, yeasty, fruity esters, floral notes, candi sugar. The flavor has sweet Bartlett pear, candy apple, and a yeasty finish with just a well-integrated touch of hop bitterness. Smooth and creamy yet lively mouthfeel. Wow, from the opposite corner of the world comes a true-to-style tripel, packing legit Belgian flavor and aroma, polished and virtually flawless. Impressive.

Nice clear to opaque straw hue with some sediment and a very generous gushy white lasting head and fully lasting sticky lacing. Wonderful tropical fruit aromas are centre stage with a nice biscuit malt background. Moderately bitter, mildly sweet. Dry finish. Enjoyable.

Tuatara Sauvinova
Clear stern golden, nice white cap and lacing. Nose is punchy grape, gooseberry and patient malt. Initial taste is crisp melon, bright floral and white pepper. Carbonation is fairly soft but mouthfeel clean and a wee bit gummy. Finishes a neat pineapple/straw floral tea buzz and lingers out fairly dry and bark-y.

Pours golden/copper with a medium white head. Strong piney aroma with notes of tropical fruits. Taste is rich, very close to an IPA, with a good balance between malts and hops. There are notes of pine, tropical fruit, grass. Not too sweet and with a strong bitter hoppiness in the after taste. A great ale.

Tuatara Double Trouble
500ml bottle. Pours cloudy orange, with plenty of head. Aroma is sickly sweet pineapple and peach under a lot of resinous hops. Flavour is absolutely gigantic, with some biscuit for a millisecond or so before there’s an almighty explosion of hops. Pine and resin are big but no match for all the fruitiness. Pineapple, peach, lemon, even some apple. The bitterness is extreme, with the tongue left tingling, but all the fruitiness makes it surprisingly refreshing. Gorgeous.

Tuatara Sauvinova
Bottle from Thirsty, drunk at home. Dark gold with an irrepressible white head.lots of visible carbonation. Smells of sweaty tropical fruit, a touch of resin, an indefinable sweetish spice. Sweet and fruity at first, Sauvinova has a decent little hoppy kick at the end. Leaves me wanting more. Dry finish. Thing about this beer: the hop is gentle. There’s certainly enough of it to call it a hop-led beer but the lip-smacking malt profile is very evident as well. Yum.

Tuatara Outrigger Pacific Pale Ale

330 ml bottle bought at YATA in MOKO, Mong Kok.

Looks: Clear light golden colour with faint traces of particles; One and a quarter finger head and crumpety white foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Beautiful sticky lacing with active slight carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant malt, with passion fruits, jackfruit, citrus, floral, fructose, lemon and strong fresh grass.

Taste: Light sweet Pils malt, with moderate grapefruits, passion fruits, floral, light molasses, biscuits, herbs, lime, strong bitter hops and strong fresh grass.

Body: Mid to light. Slick and smooth palate.

Mouth Feel: Solid Pils maltyness in a slightly thick background. Very smooth, with moderate but very fruity citrus sourness and passion fruits. Flowery, pretty light sweet with strong fresh herbal limey finish. Clean and beautiful!

Hoppiness: passion fruits, jackfruit, citrus, floral, lemon and strong fresh grass in nose. Grapefruits, passion fruits, floral, herbs, lime and fresh grass in taste; Bitterness is strong for a lasting, close to high astringent fruity malty finish.

After Taste: Dry. Limey, grassy and strong bitter to mouth.

Comments: This one has a long list of exotics hops in the mix, and while it doesn’t push the likes of Engima and Ella to the limits, the neat tropical fruit and fructose aroma with nice limey grassy herba taste make a smooth and enjoyable tasting. Highly recommended!
