2.8 XXXX Summer Bright Lager - Raspberry Lemonade Bottle from local Liquorland drank on 20 December 2023. The only real flavour in this beer y it s the feint yet sweet raspberry flavour. 1.9 Castlemaine Perkins XXXX Dry 22/10/2022. Can from Norfolk Island Liquor Bond Store, Burnt Pine, Norfolk Island. Drank from the can after a walk to the summit of Mt Pitt. Aroma is malty, grain, caramel, citrus, grass. Quite sweet initially, with metallic bitterness and a slight sour edge. Moderate body, extremely oily, average carbonation. Tart finish. 1.1 Castlemaine XXXX Gold Lager 31 August 2022. Splashes Pool Bar, Daydream Island. Things have taken a serious turn for the worse here on Daydream Island. I’ve drunk many a XXXX Gold over the years and I can’t really say that I enjoyed any of them. However when you are staying at an island resort and commit to drinking your way through their (not very extensive) beer list inevitably you come across one that sends shivers down your spine. Two hop varieties are used in the process of brewing this beer: Superpride of Ringwood and Golden Cluster, both of which are used to give the beer some degree of bitterness. This beers been around since 1991 so it must be doing something right, I’m just not sure what that something is. At one time this beer was brewed solely at Castlemaine Perkins Milton brewery but now it is brewed in multiple Lion Nathan owned breweries across the country. The can states that this is a “full flavoured lager” so my definition of full flavour must differ significantly from those that brew this beer, as there is not a lot of flavour in this beer. 2 Castlemaine XXXX Bitter Draught at Grand Hotel, Gayndah. Poured a crystal clear gold with 5mm of bright white open foam that retained very well and laced very well. Carbonation high, lively and fine to medium. Aroma subtly of malt with slight sweetness; no obvious hops. Taste slightly sweet; no real bitterness. Light body bordering on watery.
