Hofstettner Granitbock
0.33 l bottle from ’Biertraum.de’, best before February 2019 (should be bottled three years before). Clear, dark red with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of caramel, raisins, blackberry, treacle and some dark honey. Moderately sweet, malty, a bit fruity and slightly roasty taste of caramel, raisins, dark chocolate and toasted nuts, followed by a short, slightly bitter, minimally herbal finish. Medium to full body, slightly oily and a bit effervescent mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Quite nice, not too intense but round and pleasant.

Pours a dark clear amber with a frothy, off-white head. Subtle aroma of sweet malts, toffee, hints of grass and toast, slightly perfumy. Taste is slightly sweet at first and blens into a medium bitterness that lingers in the finish. Medium carbonation, oily light-to-medium body. Subtle, with the right balance between bitterness and sweetness. Very enjoyable, very drinkable. Definitely worth a try!

Specielt!

Taste is cough drops, cough syrup, black licorice, very sweet licorice candy, allmsot touch medicinal, very sweet herbal,.. Thick, very dry. APPEARANCE- looks like a true style Oktoberfest, like a marzen should. Better head than mor beers ive drinken at Munich’s octonerfest (an interesting note for my followers, my profile pic on RB is a selfie from the Haufbrau tent in 2014). NOSE- very little of anything in the nose. FLAVOR- very light flavor. Probably good for drinking large quantities at the event, bit if I want a beer that has some character, this isn’t it.

Medium gusher. Amber, hazy body, with floating yeast particles and a medium, fluffy, moderately lacing, light beige head.
Aroma of honey, ripe fruits, bread, oat, some berries, flowers, some citrus.
Taste is a bit lighter, with about the same aromas and subtle alcohol.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes medium alcohol warming, quite soft, floral, a bit fruity, with some some grains and lingering honey notes.

Good. Interesting, diverse nose, with a good mix of sweet and fruity notes. Taste is a bit too light for my liking, while still good. Overall it has more character than many other style examples, but still not among the best ones I’ve had.

Finishes alcohol warming, bitter, quite dry, hoppy, floral, spicy, grassy, a bit sweet.

Good, but not so special. A bit hoppier than usual for this style, with nice floral notes and a bitter finish. Still quite simple overall, while well balanced. Not among my favourite Hofstettner bock beers.
