Byron Bay Beverages Reviews

KeefOz
Byron Bay IPA 3.4
Draught at Embassy Hotel, Brisbane. Poured a clear dark amber with 5mm of off-white dense foam head that retained well and laced OK. Carbonation low with fine bubbles. Aroma very strongly of pine resins and fruits; very nice. Taste of pine (a bit subdued compared to the aroma) and nicely balanced with sweet malt hints. Light to medium body. Crisp, refreshing and slightly dry with a long lingering moderate to strong bitterness on the finish. Very nice.

Byron Bay Sandman 3.5
On tap at Archve Beer Boutique 281215. Byron Bay Brewery does not seem to get a lot of love here in Brisbane, not sure why, but the only place that I have seen their beers on tap is at Archive Beer Boutique. I know that there was some confusion over where their pale lager was brewed a while ago and this received some bad press. I always find their beers to be above average and Sandman was no different. At 5.3% ABV it sits in the middle of the road as far as alcohol content goes. This beer is a seasonal release and poured a dark honey colour with a level coating of clean white foam that left a snaking trail of lacing around the glass. I found this to be a maltier beer that I anticipated and there were aromas of malt and caramel. The beer had a good body and a long aftertaste with flavours of caramel and a hint of bread crust. A good beer for a hot summers day and a beer that you could easily drink more than one of. I guess that Byron Bay Brewing brew beers for their local audience which I imagine would be sun loving surfer types, given the location of the brewery, however I could be wrong.

Byron Bay Pale Lager 0.8
Tasted 13/9/2014. BB 16/07/15. Poured a clear pale amber with 5mm of white foam that diminished quickly to a collar that laced OK. Carbonation moderate and medium sized bubbles. Aroma of undefined chemicals. Taste bland with a slight metallic tone. Light body, a bit thin. Terrible.

Melbourne Lager 1.9
Pours a quite pale golden color, clear, and topped with a medium white head. The aroma is almost non-existant, just some minimal malts are present. The taste is sweet, light and slightly watery. Slight bitterness in the finish plus a metal feel in the aftertaste. Drinkable and refreshing. But very watery.

Byron Bay Pale Lager 1
Very mild lager. Probably good for a session beer. Unfortunately I am more inclined to hoppy Pale Ales so my comments reflect my taste preferences

Byron Bay Pale Lager 2
A bit skunky, very slightly hoppy pale lager, hops do not compliment the malt very well. Not a pleasant drink.

Melbourne Christmas Lager 2.1
33cl bottle courtesy of Bierkrug. Nothing special here, cereal grains very evident. Rough pour had immediate thick head, pale golden in color. Slightly sour notes, had us guessing at the style. For a seasonal, a poor effort.

ALLOVATE
Byron Bay Pale Lager 1.4
Convenient twist top releases to reveal a wheaty, hay-bale, mineral-like nose with a hint of dried mown grass. In the glass it settles an uninspiring straw gold, bright and missing a vital on top. Gassy, soapy, light bodied yet it leaves a foreign lather upon the tongue. Dusty old hops in back, low malt tones mid-palate with a touch of apple and pear, and a quashed almost incoherent bitterness to finish. No length of flavour. Pretty one dimensional and flawed really! (33cL, BB 08/07/13, 1st Choice Liquor, Midland)

Byron Bay Pale Lager 1.7
330 ml bottle. Soft white head , very pale and clear with wet straw aromas. Thin and tasteless in the mouth. There is nothing that makes this pale lager stand out from the thousands of other pale lagers out there.

Byron Bay Pale Lager 1.4
Bottle from Dan Murphy’s. Pale , sparkling golden colour, looked promising in the glass, extreme let down from there on. Watery, boring. Epic fail.

Byron Bay Pale Lager 2.4
Pours a pale golden color with a small head with no real lacing. Mild aroma of malt sweetness, grain and bit of citrus in the background. Taste has a mild malt sweetness and grain. Weeak bitterness and a bland finish. Light body, smooth and boring. A non-offensive pale lager in an ocean of Pale Lager.

Byron Bay Pale Lager 1.5
This is another boring pale lager that is the same as all the rest. Just another grab at the craft beer market by CUB. The numbers in the ratings speak for themselves, try at your own peril!
