Bootleg Bean There Hop That
On tap at GABS on 18 May 2018. This is a complex beer with a few different flavours throughout it. Coffee comes through in the aroma and also the flavour.

Light on the palate, easy amount of gas to carry through. Distinct but not overbearing sour taste. Some hints of lychee and gooseberry on the palate. Good drinking on a hot day. Nice change from a summer ale.

Pale gold, clear pour with a thin but long lasting white head. Slightly funky, malty, light sour aroma. Taste is a little salt, sourness and spice, pretty good summer beer

Bootleg Paint the Town
Very murky reddish brown pour with a decent off white head and good lacing. Looks a bit like a glass of Pilbara mud. Malty, pine, peachy, a bit of dried fruit on the nose. Taste is sweet malt, berry, pine, fruity, fairly big bitter kick at the end. Don't be put off by the appearance

Tap at Bob's bar - solid enough - middle of the road - caramel malt with a cardboard taint that detracts - unexciting.

Not really going into orbit for me! Murky golden appearance, light particles, has a solid white head, aromas of cookies, toffee along with herbs and a floral backing, light sweetness quickly turning bitter, light spice and bitter hops, medium body.

Bootleg Imperial Raging Bull
A big bold boozy Porter, aroma’s of dark fruits and coffee, pours a delicious black with a solid creamy head, has a lingering bitterness, and leaves a peppery spice mouthfeel. I will grab this every year that they release it.

Bootleg Up and About Breakfast Stout
330 ML bottle dark cola color. Light tan head that falls to a thin collar. Nose is soft coffee, iced coffee, chocolate, rolled oats. Straight forward. Taste is slightly sweet, lots of oatmeal and rolled oats smoothed out by the coffee. Some vanilla and some caramel. Fairly thin bodied but from the ABV and style it is workable. Not mind blowing but nice.

Bootleg Hop Swap #5 El Dorado
Bright, sunny gold with high effervescence raising up a monstrous, rocky white crown that needs to be chewed off. Strange nose of cherries, buttery fruit mince, spruce, honey and rhubarb. The carbonation bites the tongue so needed to be swirled out. Quite bitter, weedy and herbal overall. Light sherry and honey-like, toasted malt crashes head first into acrid hops that last well past their due. Body is light and it drinks as much. I have used el Dorado on may occasions and the result was not like this. Didn’t work for me at all!!! (33cL, no date stamp, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

My first from Bootleg. This is a big beer that doesn’t disappoint but what would one expect from an imperial porter?Loads of sweet dried fruit. Bitter coffee and definite aromatic tobacco. i wish I could have visited Bootleg in Margaret River when I was down there but there are so many good breweries I just didn’t have the time. Next time though.

Bootleg Eureka Single Hop XPA
A big cheers to Ryan from Bootleg for this one!
Into a snifter at just on cool. Big, mountainous head of snow-white foam forms rapidly, holds on for the length and laces well. The body a misty pale, golden amber with very little noticeable life. Nose is sweet, plump and juicy with hints of gooseberry, lychee and mango, and a little bready, biscuity malt underneath. On the palate it peaks quite early and rolls into a lastingly bitter, herbaceous and camphorous swallow. A more reserved amount of supple fruit and sweet malt upfront does a decent job of balancing the ale. Clean fermentation has allowed the hop to speak volumes. Assertive in its presence and sharp but controlled with a tangy, fruit acidity that makes it almost vinous. The fruit of the nose Lasting between sips. Body is quite light with moderate carbonation allowing for height and effortless quaffing. Light vanillin and almond notes build, as does a touch of eucalypt candy. From a new age hop I’ve had no previous knowledge of comes this delicious brew. On the bandwagon of XPA’s popping up everywhere I’m happy to say this is one of the best for me so far. Good stuff!!! (33cL, no date stamp, freshly bottled!)

Bootleg Pants Down Double IPA
Darker orange with a copper tinge and a small tan head. Aromas of dark honey, sharp citrus hops, pineapple sweetness and a slight spiciness. Slightly resinous, the spiciness translates well from aroma to flavour. Dark jarrah honey and citrus hop flavors. Medium to dry finish with a medium body - long lingering hop bitterness, a tad too sharp though.

Bootleg Brewery Speak Easy IPA
Bottle from Copper and Oak Liquor Merchants 270516. This is a good old fashioned IPA and reminds me a lot of the IPA’s that were around when I first delved into the mysterious world that was craft beer back then. This is a good looking beer with a copper hue and a big pillow top of fluffy white foam. The first sip of this beer leaves no doubt that you are drinking an IPA as the piney resinous flavours swirl around the mouth. It has a mouthfeel and finish that is typical of a lot of IPA’s but sadly lacking in some, resinous and almost sticky. This is a beer that I would definetly go back to but unfortunately it is near on impossible to buy it on this side of the country. I brought this bottle on line. A beer that is well brewed and a cut above a lot of IPA’s.

330 ML bottle Thanks to Owen for sharing a bottle darker orange amber color. thick off white head. Good spotty lacing. nose is a lot of toffee, big malt backbon. Candied stone fruit and orange marmalade. A bit muddled and malt is really apparent. Taste is burnt caramel and orange marmalade. A lot of booze in the mouth. Showing a lot of it’s age. Some harsh pine bitterness and a lot of booze comes through this. Full bodied and rough. Not real balanced even with the age. Pretty had to drink.

BB 08/16. Poured a translucent deep reddish brown with a one-finger dense foam head that retained very well and laced OK. Carbonation very high and fine. Aroma of toasted malt, sweet dark fruit (raisins) with a hint of sweet chocolate coming through as it warmed; alcohol well hidden. Taste of sweet roasted caramel malts with hints of vanilla, chocolate and liquorice; taste is quite sweet; not much bitterness (thankfully); alcohol well hidden. Medium body. Crisp and smooth with a soft syrupy mouthfeel and with a quite sweet (even sweeter as it warms) finish. Good.

Tasted 10/4/2016. Stubby. Listed as 6.2% ABV. Poured a crystal clear pale amber with a one-finger white foamy head that diminished quickly and laced poorly. Carbonation virtually nil with rare fine bubbles. Aroma subtly of sweet malts. Taste with hints of sweet malt followed by a not so nice tartness. Light body. Smooth with a tarty finish. This beer form bootleg brewery is a job well done on their behalf. I found this DIPA to be one of the best beers I’ve had this year. Starts with a full hop aroma, that is citrusy and fruity but also quite strong. The appearance was a deep rich golden colour with a short creamy head. At first taste it starts with with a deep full bodied hop Flavour that finnishes with a strong bitter yet hoppy taste. In my opinion this beer is by far one of the best beers bootleg has released. I look forward to seeing what Bootleg have instore for the future.

BOTTLE. See through straw in colour with no head but good carb.. Sweet butterscotch nose, some lemon/honey as well.. Tasted like a "honey buttermenthol", some bitterness at the back end, maybe the grapefruit?? Not the best hop to promote on its own?

Melba is a new hop for me and apparently the brewing world. Supposedly similar to galaxy the deScription of this beer does a good job. I get the typical bootleg malt lineup with unique caramel taste. Melba doesn’t seem as good as galaxy. Everything else about the beer is great, especially the 4.6% abv... the sessionability is amazing! Would love to see a hop swap series tour America or NZ with some of their iconic hops 😊

About time! Bootleg’s Ipa (speak easy) made waves when it was first released, so it’s about time they made a dipa. This is nothing like their other beers which is good and bad. The typical caramel malt flavour you get with Bootleg beers is masked, hidden by a sweetness no beer should possess. In my opinion the fg is either too high or the beer doesn’t have a high enough ibu to balance the residual sugar. Everything else about the beer is great. Amazing colour, hops on the nose are heavenly - only spoiled by aromatic residual sugars. Mouth feel of course is decent due to sugars. Overall decent beer from one of my favourite breweries. I look forward to visiting them in person in July to see how they have improved upon this beer and other new lines they are experimenting with.
