Bottle at the New Hiroden hotel in Hiroshima. Has gold floating in it...away we go! A very clear color. The overall nose is musty fruit. Pears, sort of woody, sweet, very clean. Quite nice.

(Bouteille provenant du Whole Foods Pasadena): Un bref vent de noisettes emporté par des vapeurs d’éthanol. On parle de quelque chose de très propre, volatile. Correct.

Kamotsuru Tokusei Gold Daiginjo Sake
[ Bottle ][ 3oz ][ Sake House Yu Me Ya ][ $4 ][ Sake Shooter ][ 4.24.15 ]
>> Clear, semi syrupy pour, no color. Great body, denser than most sake I’ve tried, semi-sweet, mild booze, restrained character all around, some red cherry, somewhat of a vodka spicy white alcohol finish. As it warms it gains a nice licorice note. Nice, but not outstanding for me.

Kamotsuru Tokusei Gold Daiginjo Sake
Very high quality daiginjo. Nearly colorless and completely clear, it looks as it should. The nose is ripe with sticky rice, melon and wispy flowers. The flavour is incredibly clean, though because if it’s slick, full bodied palate, the flavours linger for quite a while. The alcohol is sweet and warming, not harsh and off-putting. Delicious, rich sweet rice dominates. There is a very low minerality, so stoney flavours are not really apparent. Clean, yet rich and sweet. Balanced nicely. I would certainly purchase this again.

Kamotsuru Ginjo Karakuchi Sake
Fruity, sweet, yeasty aroma with cedar and pepper. Rich, full mouth. Very fruity flavor, and extremely sweet for something calling itself "karakuchi" (dry)! Reasonably complex and tasty, though I expected better.

Kamotsuru Daiginjo Genshu Sake
Bottle @ IslandHaole’s: Clear, maybe an egg shell white. Nose of fresh bright melon and alcohol, some sweet rice and koji, nice and floral, tons of fruit and beautiful fresh nama notes. The flavor is dry and strong, but the fresh fruit and rice notes continue in the flavor. The heat from the immense alcohol level reach your lower levels before it’s detectable on the palate (maybe after a few lesser sakes). It’s clean and has a decent mouthfeel, nice impact, tons of flavor, anise and pear, banana and apple in the finish. Smooth, nice, good with steak.

Kamotsuru Junmai Sake
Bottle Drank: Shinkansen Bought: Hiroshima Station: Clear, thick legs. Nose of bright koji and butter with some yamahai acidic notes. Dry and subtle, it’s really woody and earthy, not on the fruity side. The flavor is a bit more lively, some spicy clove notes and a light alcohol presence. A cake or cookie like body, but not sweet, just a rich umami filling mouthfeel, but the dry alcohol and woody notes are there along with it for the ride. No fruit to be found anywhere here, so it’s unique. I can roll with it as the country side unfolds at 150mph just outside the window of the train while I sip this.

Kamotsuru Daiginjo Genshu Sake
A delicious little bottle of sake brought down to Okinawa via ship by BuckDich on his whirlwind "Tour de Japan". Just a hint of yellow in the color, a wonderful sweet aroma of apricots & pears. Has a "Northern Japan" quality to it, by that I mean a crisp fruity flavor, not like the drier styles of the south. A fantastic sake and one I could drink for many nights without tire. (I should be so lucky) Thank you Jordan for hand carrying this precious cargo down from Hiroshima.
