Light citrus and a little aftershave. Dark golden pour with good head and lacing. Easy drinking without no faults, but no real charm. Light bitter end. Can.

Draft. Reddish amber brew. Drinks with a heavy malt component, almost sweet. The server told me this was an IPA, so imagine my surprise. Definitely more to the British ale tilt, except for that little bit of sweet twist in the end. (#8516, 3/2023)

Thanks to Catherine for this Thanksgiving treat. It is a big, black IPA. Strong, slightly acrid, roasty malts dominate, but there is a strong hop presence also. A little bourbon in the mix also. 8 kinds of hops(!) which lead to an excellent aroma. A very potent, flavorful brew.

Bloomington Java Porter
On draft at Max & Ermas in Eidenburg. The pour is a darker brown/black with a little garnet shining through. There is a thick light tan colored head and a fair bit of lace. The aroma is decent. There is a hefty coffee and roasted malt. The sweetness of a milk sugar and lighter chocolate does pretty well. The flavor is a bit more watery and single dimensioned. The coffee is present but watery with a light hint of chocolate and almost no malt present. The sweetness changes to bitter. The mouth feel is watery and hardly medium bodied with a sharpish carbonation and a lingeringly bitter roasted coffee on the back end. Not bad, but not terrible. 6 4 5 3 12

Draft to pint. Looks solid; a hazy golden orange with eggshell head. Smells of fruity hops with a mildly bittersweet backbone. Tastes like it smells with some added bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium to medium full-bodied and moderately bitter. Good, not great. The fruitiness of the (dry?) hop profile is a little subdued for a NE IPA.

Draft. Clear golden body with a fizzy, white head. Light aroma of toasted grain, light floral hops, mango. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/sticky texture, lively carbonation. Light mango taste, but more bitter than flavorful for a fruit beer. Some raw grain and fruity mango in the aftertaste.

Rated on 10-06-2017. Canned on 6/30/17. The appearance is a medium sized off-white frothy, fizzy head that is mostly lasting, golden transparent body, fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is grain, malt, biscuit, and lemony. The flavor is creamy malt, light hops, biscuit, light lemon, and lightly sweet. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation, clean and soft. This beer is light-medium bodied. This beer is very easy to drink with a malty finish. There is nothing special that stands out about this beer. It is not a bad drinking beer.

On tap at The Brick in South Bend. Pours very red. Flavor is very rich and smooth with a bit of creaminess. Very full bodied well rounded malt flavor - mostly fruity in character with some bready notes. Hopping is just enough to brighten up the finish. Very well crafted beer that I feel is being seriously underrated due to its style.

This canned brew from a bottle shop was served at a cool temperature and poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized white colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a softly carbonated body semi-transparent light and a good lacing. The mild aroma was hoppy. The sharp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a medium hoppy aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of hops. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.

Bomber. Thanks to Nate. Sharp, fairly pungent nose of overripe stone fruit and alcohol fumes. Hazy copper/amber color, thick head, and sticky acing. Fat caramel, and immediate sharp fruity hop hit. Lots of overripe fruit with smooth but constant bitter tracks. Medium-heavy body. Pretty good. Concentrated flavors but fairly balanced as well.

This draft brew from a restaurant poured a head of foamy finely sized bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque black brown colored body and a good lacing. The mild aroma was dark malt. The sour thick mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish roasted malt aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of roasted malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

16 oz can @ Keg Liquors / Clarksville IN --- canned 6/24/16 --- aroma of malt. Slightly hazy medium amber color, off-white head that sinks to a full cover, streaks of lace. Taste is creamy malt that grows sweeter as it moves through medium fizz, then light hops to finish. A light, but refreshing, ale.

Reddish/Brown Hue, lively carbonated with a sweet aroma on the nose. This was from a keg not bottle. Starts out with the caramel malt and munich malt as the main players in this beer. smooth taste follows with a slightly bitter finish that lingers until the next sip, Good Amber Ale overall, something I would go back to every now and then.

Bloomington Back Country Session IPA
Pint can from Keg Liquors (Clarksville); can’t really read the canned date, but purchased on the advice of the owner. Aroma: Moderate, juicy stone fruit/tropical fruit; lighter grapefruit; very light caramel/butterscotch malts. Appearance: Slightly hazy caramel gold color with soft carbonation holding up foamy bone head that settles into a sticky skin. Flavor: Tropical/stone fruit hops up front with an underlying caramel semi-sweetness; malts take on a slight toasted note towards the finish, which mingles well with the bitterness. Palate: Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: Wow. This hit the mark on every level for me. I’ve never thought of Indiana’s BBC very highly, but this beer is a game changer for how I perceive their output. Bravo!

Rated on 7-04-2016 at Black Dog Pub & Restaurant. The appearance of this draft beer is a very small beige head that is fully lasting, transparent pale yellow body, no visible carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is light hops and malt. The flavor is light hops, malt and semi-sweet. The mouthfeel is smooth, thin and soft carbonation. This is a light-medium beer. A quaffable beer but nothing all that special as it does not have much character.

Bloomington Back Country Session IPA
Rated on 6-07-2016 - This canned beer’s appearance upon being poured is a medium sized off-white frothy, fizzy head that is mostly lasting, mostly transparent/slightly hazy golden body, lively, fast rising carbonation observed, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is heavy citrus hops, floral, grass, grapefruit, earthy, and malt. The flavor presents moderate bitterness, rich, bold citrus hops, earthy, sweet, grassy, and caramel malt. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. This is a very drinkable beer with an obvious citrus hops character. This beer has a moderate bitter aftertaste. This beer is worth trying and a beer that I would drink again.
