Cannery The Muse & The Golden Promise
Sampled from the bottle @ Calgary Beerfest 2016. First off, I want to compliment Cannery on the label for this beer-- please keep going in this direction! Your old labels are fine, but dreadfully boring. Anyhow, on to the beer. Medium golden hue, white cap. Lightly toasty crackery malts, with lovely light florals and fruit esters. Moderate bitterness in the finish. A pleasant blonde ale, easy drinking.

Pours a deep amber/brown colour with a creamier tan head. Aroma is of pumpkin with not much spice to it. Taste is reasonably sweet with a nice malty undertone. Smooth and slightly creamy on the palate, thinner mouth feel, and moderate carbonation. Overall a good pumpkin ale.

Cannery The Muse & The Golden Promise
Bottle. Deep gold colour, thin bubbly head. The aroma has a mellow simcoe character with sweet pale malts, with delicate fruitiness from the yeast. On the palate, this has light to moderate bitterness, balanced by a pale malt presence that borders on heavy. Thereís a hit of alcohol in there, too. The hops maybe arenít as bright as could be, but this is a pretty good beer, well-balanced and it fits an interesting gap being a stronger golden ale thatís not hoppy enough to be a blond IPA.

Bottle. Pours a brown copper, thin white head, no lace. Nose is sweet , caramel, fruity, and a little off metallic scent. Tastes thin and rather smoky off the start, itís really not good. Thereís a sweetness, but Iím thinking this isnít the way it normally should taste.

650ml bottle pours a clear golden color with a finger and a half of white head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruits with some citrus and grains. Taste is a citrus and grass hop bitterness with a malty sweetness and a dry yeasty finish. Light to medium bodied with good carbonation. A well crafted brew that is both tasty and balanced.

Flavour is crisp and fairly hoppy, with citrus hops and very punchy crisp crackery malt. Well-constructed, with all the different elements working well together. Solid.

Draft - Chocolate and blackberry, just like the chocolates. Jet brown with a light brown head. Just as it smells with a hint of boozy sweetness in the finish. Think those alcohol filled dark chocolate cups. Not my thing, but exactly as advertised.

Appearance: clear brown with a brief fizzy head and no lacing. (3/5) Aroma: dark dried fruit, roasty grains, stone fruit, brown sugar, faint solvent. (6/10) Taste: moderate-strong sweet, light bitter. (6/10) Palate: medium body tending a little to the thin, low carbonation, mildly warming finish. (3/5) A fairly pedestrian North American implementation of a BSDA. Not bad, but a bit thin and unremarkable. Sorry, maybe Iím just spoiled by having had the opportunity to try the real deal on multiple occasions, but this just isnít getting me all that excited. (12/20)

Appearance: clear pale straw with one finger of fluffy white head, good retention and lacing. (4/5) Aroma: grassy hops, pale crackery malt, hint of herbal and citrus. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, mild to moderate bitter. (6/10) Palate: light body, moderate carbonation, very slight alcohol warming and moderate duration bitter finish. (3/5) Well, it is what it is. And itís better than most Helles lagers, or bocks. Even though itís a Maibock (ďMayĒ-bock) that Iím drinking in July, it doesnít taste faded. Grassy as all get-out, with a crackery/bready/doughy malt backing, but it works for the style - though, admittedly, itís not a style I know all that well. Overall, yeah, crisp and drinkable. (By the way, no, Iím not making up that best before date - the bottle was stamped 09/31/15 - seriously. I guess if itís good until the thirty-first of September, it never goes bad? And honestly, that label is the creepiest goat Iíve ever seen. Itís like a mid-level D&D monster requiring a saving throw against the willies...) (13/20)

Bottle. Pale gold in colour with fairly strong carbonation. Aromas are of wet grain, crabapple, and wildflower honey. Flavors are a blend of wheat and 2-row malts, a bit of lemon peel, and orchard fruit. Heavier on the palate than expected with a mineral finish. Not as refreshing as expected, and a bit on the bland side.
