3.1 Hal and Mals Mundts Scottish Ale Dark mahogany body, but served with no head. Malty aroma with dark chocolate and roast. Diacetyl? The beer starts good with dark malt flavors, slight smoke, but then the flavor falls off to a buttery mess at the end. It has potential though. Monday, March 28, 2005

3.4 Hal and Mals Sweet Potato Queen The star of the bunch. I don’t know if this is brewed with actual sweet potatoes, but there’s something lurking there with the sweet caramel and brown sugar malts that tastes like a sweet potato (and I ate some sweet potato chips the next day to make sure that was what I was tasting). There’s also a good bit of spice making this taste a lot like a decent pumpkin ale. I had three or so of these during trivia, so I’d have to say I liked it. It could use a bit more malt to fill it out though. Monday, March 28, 2005

2.9 Hal and Mals Bandit Amber There’s a little bit of malt character, but the flavor is short and small. Clearer than the other beers as well. It has a light brown body and was served with no head. Monday, March 28, 2005

2.3 Hal and Mals Pilsner Prospere Boring. There’s no flavor at all. I couldn’t really find hops or malt. There’s a slightly hazy yellow body and it was served with no head. It’s not bad, it’s just not really there. Monday, March 28, 2005

2.9 Hal and Mals Bandit Amber very little aroma; dark brown color; probably the best of their beers I've tried Tuesday, November 11, 2003

3.1 Hal and Mals Trophy Buck Stout I could detect very little aroma; very dark, as you'd expect from a stout; definite coffee taste Tuesday, November 11, 2003

3.4 Hal and Mals Bandit Amber I enjoyed this one with good friends and decent music at Hal and Mal's. I was delighted to pay only 2.50 for a beer that far outperforms budcoorsmiller and many other mass produced beers. Tuesday, October 7, 2003

3.4 Hal and Mals Mundts Scottish Ale My favorite brew from this pub. Nice, sweet cocoa and smokey aroma. Dark whiskey colored, caramel head. Prevalent smoked peat flavor, lightly sweet with very light hopping. Light bodied, session-style mouth with lightly tart smokey finish. In the spirit of Belhaven Scottish. Quite good. 3.6 Hal and Mals Pearl River Pale Ale Moderate cascade and malt aroma. Cinnamon colored with short creamy head. Medium-heavy western hopping. Crisp, woody, lemony. The hops didn't wear out their welcome in the finish. A very solid brewpub PA. Tuesday, June 24, 2003

3.3 Hal and Mals Zita Vienna Lager Caramel malt and slightly phenolic lager aroma. Ruddy chestnut brown with off-white head. Nutty, a little vegetable, moderately hopped and dry. Good medium body with a long bitter finish. Did well with their roast beef sandwich. Tuesday, June 24, 2003

3.3 Hal and Mals Trophy Buck Stout Great mocha and cream aroma, unfortunately the beer didn't deliver what the smell promised. Flat, milky palate that needs more CO2 or hops or bitter malt or something. Pitch with camel head. Lactose sweet and only moderately bitter. Decent, but lacking character and too one-dimensional in the lactose sweet department. Nothing like Guiness, as the commercial desc suggests. Tuesday, June 24, 2003

3 Hal and Mals Pilsner Prospere Light, earthy and slightly floral aroma. Deep amber gold with webby head. Citrus and floral notes and an almost golden ale mouthfeel. Tart and fruity finish which I found a little too acidic. Tuesday, June 24, 2003

2.8 Hal and Mals Half Moon Light Rich, malty lage aroma with earthy notes. Clear American Standard yellow color with tall head. Acidic, well-hopped. Tangy finish, but it loses CO2 and was a little watery. Tuesday, June 24, 2003

1.5 Hal and Mals Half Moon Light Sorry, but this was really shitty. The color was a deep yellow, unlike most light beers, but they somehow managed to take out ALL of the flavor!!!! I actually found one with less taste than michelob ultra! Sunday, June 22, 2003

3.8 Hal and Mals Trophy Buck Stout Nice flavor, very similar to Guinness. Think and chocolatey. Will drink again. Even better this time. A more complex and thicker chocolatey flavor. Almost like Young's double chocolate stout. Much better than last time with the flavor suddenly tasting unlike Guinness in a draught can. Monday, January 20, 2003
