Valley Brew Decadence Grand Cru 2007
Bottle from KrausenJockey, drunk 5/1/2008.
From beermail sent to KrausenJockey, "just opened my first Decadence grand cru. Despite your suggestions, I cellared it at about 50 degrees for the last 6 months or so and just opened it and poured it in a champagne/lambic flute. Absolutely stunning and perfectly carbonated! The sweet/dry balance is perfect as well. No flaws whatsoever and the malt just shines through. Iím not rating right now, but Iíd probably give it a 9 aroma, 5 appearance, 9 flavor, 4 palate and 18 overall.

Hope youíre doin well, tell aspidites that I havenít forgot I owe him beer."

Valley Brew Barrel Aged Sour Barleywine
On-tap @ Beachwood Brewing. Pours amber in color with an off-white head. A pleasant sourness that has a nice fruity, almost strawberry, aroma to it. Some hints of hay and oak as well as a touch of vinegar. There still is a fair amount of sweet malt and toffee notes with a hint of vinegar. The flavor has a mild bourbon character to it as well as some vanilla and brown sugar and toffee sweetness. Light to moderate tartness of vinegar, underripe fruits, and strawberries. Surprisingly good.

"MASSIVE flavor for a dry irish. Very impressive, and one of the smoothest beers ever. Tasted at the pub...now Iím 3 hours away and wish i could get my hands on more. 5/10-not as good a couple years later, but still pretty darn good for a dry, sweet stout. not head and shoulders above all their other beers as it was b4, though.

Valley Brew Uberhoppy Imperial IPA
"not quite as hopperific as advertised. also more like an American strong ale than a dbl ipa. less aromatic floral citrusy hops, although there was a little citrus, and more bitterness tempered with a big malty backbone. got it straight from the brewer, so i wouldnít think it had age on it, but you never know...seemed old."

Valley Brew Uberhoppy Imperial IPA
A- Pours a deep, golden, wheaty color with a 1.5 finger, chunky white head that fades with tons of lacing. S- Deep floral hops, grainy with deep undertones of freshly baked bread. Hints of sweet caramel. T- Taste is phenomenal. Starts off with lots of floral citrusey hop notes and is completmented by a wave of sweet, bready goodness. Not nearly as bitter as I was expecting but the hops play a major role in the overall flavor. M- Thick with medium-low carbonation. D- Incredibly drinkable. The hop character is fantastic and everything is balanced perfectly.

Valley Brew Olde Inventory BarleyRyne
A- Pours a cloudy copper color with very little head. S- Smell is huge ... lots of dark fruit, prune, raisin, brown sugar. T- Tastes more like an english barleywine, very strong prune notes up front followed by fig, plum and hints of caramel with little to no hop on the back end. M- Thick with medium carbonation. D- This is a very drinkable barleywine. I enjoyed it so much that I got a growler to take home.

Slightly cloudy copper coloured body with a small tan head atop. Aroma of grapefruit, citrus and fresh hops. Medium-bodied; Nice relatively mild flavour with fresh hops and lighter malt noticeable. Good bitter finish with a nice hoppy taste, but not too strong at all. Overall, a decent IPA, not too strong, but good to try! I sampled this pint on draught at Toronado in San Francisco, California on 28-June-2010.

Bomber from City Beer a couple years back. Massive pour, garnet and bedecked with an admirable, silky head. Softy nutty and malty nose along with deep boozy sweetness, no aggression but simply an elegant warmth. Mouthfeel perhaps ever so slightly sticky but thatís no demerit given the emphatic, unapologetic style here. A massive, uncompromising but very well rendered English BW. Enjoyed it.

Bomber from 2010 - thanks, family! Had high hopes for this one, but the best I can say is that I let it age too long. Clearish apple juice pour, minimal bubbles and a watery consistency. Strong sweet malts and spicy yeast in the nose. Taste was considerably more fruity than expected (apple juice for sure here), and with the washed-out quality it came across as a merely decent BSA.

Tap at Pizza Port OB. Clear medium orange with a one finger creamy off-white head, fair retention. Lactic acid sour and old wood nose, some fruit andfunky brett behind. Flavor adds what must be pomegranate and a good amount of wheat midway through to the finish. Bone dry finish with sourness peaking at a 6, tempered a bit by the fruit. Just a tinge of bitterness. As it warms I get some light wet paper in both flavor and aroma. Burps light acetic acid. Light carbonation with a lightish bod . Pretty tasty--been some time since Iíve had this. Nice job, Steve!

Bottle shared by Lunch. Thanks Paul! The beer is golden hued with a small white head that leaves faint traces of lacing on the glass. The aroma brings herbal and floral notes, with additional scents of alcohol and a subtle yeast character. This beer is overly sweet, with alcohol too prominent. The body is thin, and overall, this was pretty tough to drink. It wasnít horrible, but I didnít particularly enjoy it either. Nothing about this brew really embraced the Belgian style to me. Yeast character was subdued, and the alcoholic sweetness was just overpowering. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-30-2011

A glowing, amber-ish pour filled with golden highlights from my 12oz. bottle. Thick sediment dances along the edges of my glass in anticipation of my first sip: Oh lord, I picked the perfect Sunday night cap to watch the Olympics with. An unrelenting onslaught of alcohol warns my taste buds of an apparent, "troublesome" presence. Itís a hop palate crusher. But I like it. Clear notes of resin overwhelm, followed by past ripened citrus oils and another wave of oregano. Bitter through the end and then some. Huge oily aftertaste. Drinkability: Great Sunday night brew. Rebuy: Yes.

22 oz. bottle from wavers1. Pours brown with a medium sized beige head. The aroma was caramel, dark fruits, and some spicy herbal notes. The flavor had brown sugar, caramel, dark fruits with an emphasis on dates and raisins. There is still some heat with this even though I sat on it for a bit. Syrupy mouth feel. Good but a touch unbalanced.

Hazy amber beer. Little white bubbly head. Rich grapefruit hop nose with some odd sweet emulsion paint. Smooth dry palate. Rich marmalade grapefruit hops - help back by that odd milky sweet paint thing. Before the dry finish the hops turn spicy. Underpinned by toffee malt. A little off the wall but decent.

Bottle. It pours a small, off-white to light beige head over a more or less clear body. Amber in color. The aroma has a lightly sourish touch, with caramel, maltyness, dark sugars, vinegar kicks in after a while, and thereís also a touch of spices. Cardamom I think. Flavorwise itís much the same, quite vinegar-ish and fruity with some spicyness. Dark berries, a faint note of metal and some caramel maltyness. Full-bodied and warming, tart and more or less dry. Fruity, berryish finish. Maybe a bit on the vinegarish side this one, but I like it. 120324
