My experience is limited in brown ales, but this one is good. I could see myself enjoying drinking one of these in the fall during a nice bonfire. It’s good.

Poured from a bottle. Pours a hazy golden Amber with a huge thick white head. Medium carbonation and plenty of lacing. Strong aroma of sweet candy corn and malts. Medium body. Taste starts out very bitter then gets extremely bitter leaving an unpleasant harsh citrus rind aftertaste in the back of the mouth. I didn't like this at all! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Short’s Mr. Fusion 3.7
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 2/17/2016. Pours very hazy golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings down the glass; with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of grapefruit, lemon zest, lime, orange peel, green tea, mint, light pepper, pine, cracker, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops, tea/mint, and moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, lemon zest, lime, orange peel, green tea, mint, light pepper, pine, cracker, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind and herbal/spicy bitterness with light cooling mint on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange rind, green tea, mint, light pepper, pine, cracker, bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops, tea/mint, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance; light bitter astringency builds up through the glass, but never becoming overbearing. Moderate dryness from hop/spice bitterness that increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky/resinous, and lightly creamy/grainy balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice spiced IPA. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops, tea/mint, and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Short’s Melt My Brain 4.6
Pours light golden. Spicy, citrus forward aroma. I allowed it to warm in the glass for about 15-20 minutes. First taste was extremely lime forward with small after taste. Allowed it to warm another 5 minutes for the second taste. Again very lime forward flavor but then I got a floral herbal taste of gin and a second later a slightly quinine tonic flavor. A perfectly refreshing beer for summer drinking.

Short’s Celestial Critter 3.3
Bottle: The aroma consists of citrus, honey, apple, banana, pepper, and clove. It pours a transparent gold with a one finger white head that fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. There is some tiny dotted lacing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with light-moderate honey and banana. The finish has light-moderate apple, bubblegum, clove, pepper, grass, and citrus peel. It’s light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel.

Short’s Huma Lupa Licious 3.4
12 oz. bottle, consumed on 4-24-16. Pours a clear brass with a large amount of cream-colored head. Many small bubbles rising. Produces good lacing. I like the bubbles, foam, and lacing, but otherwise a boring appearance. Some yeast haze and thicker, smoother head in the final pour elevates the appearance. Scents of lemon and almost mint. A basil herbality to the smell. Dry taste with a dry, bitter finish. Hoppiness is clearly present and in fact dominant yet at the same time subdued. I wonder if I have an older bottle, although it can’t be too old. Not a lot of complexity in the hops; mostly just dryness/bitterness. I like a classic, bitter IPA, but it’s hard for me to give one a particularly high score. A malty sweetness does develop upon multiple sips. Soft in the palate. Medium body. Filling. Unremarkable palate effects. Overall, an okay IPA and beer but nothing special.

Short’s Old Reliable 3.1
Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate corn, cereal notes, grass, and a touch of lemon peel. It pours a transparent dull gold with a one finger soapy white head that fades to a thin film outlined by a thick ring. There is some sporadic thin webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with mild corn with a hint of cereal/grain notes. The finish has light-moderate grass, lighter florals, and a touch of lemon peel. It’s light bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, it’s a solid summer thirst quencher.

Short’s Melt My Brain 2.9
Pours a bright, hazy straw yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is lime, spices, and what must be tonic water, though I admit I’m not sure I’m familiar with the taste of tonic water. Flavor is mostly the lime and tonic water. Sweet, but with a surprisingly tart character. Leaves an aftertaste I don’t care for. Seems well-liked so far, which surprises me. It doesn’t work for me quite so much.

Short’s Soft Parade 2.5
Poured from a bottle. Pours a clear pinkish red with a thin white ring. Little carbonation and no lacing. Aroma is slightly tart and sweet fruit. With all of the mixed fruits I thought this would be either sweet or sour. It was dry and somewhat harsh. Very disappointing!

Short’s Mr. Fusion 3.4
Bottle. Softly hazed gold brick-yellow with a billowing head of sticky white. Nose is decidedly earthy, almost peppery, with notes of peppercorns and spinach atop floral sweetness. The flavor’s more cohesive, bringing the soft sweetness of the tea leaves to the fore, while the base of sweetish crackery malts and cooling mint swings through to the finish. Body is pillow-soft, with silky carbonation--very nice. Interesting beer.

Short’s Space Rock 3.2
bottle @ Whitey’s / Lawrenceburg IN --- Aroma of hops and malt. Hazy medium/light amber, rocky white head, fluffs of lace. Taste is malt that is undone quickly by hops that grow more piney as the long finish approaches. Lot of flavor for a 5% abv, but mostly for hopheads.

FROTHINGSLOSH
Short’s Love Knife 3.1
Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a caramel-brown color with a large creamy orange-beige head that left great lacing. The aroma was dryish and musty with band aid and citrus. The flavor was sourish and tangy with band aid, yeast, vague fruity hops and table sugar. Long finish. Medium body and smooth. Ok.

Nephilium
Short’s Melt My Brain 3.2
Sweet lime aroma, reminiscent of Rose’s lime juice. Pours a cloudy straw color, with a quickly fading white head. The lime and tonic are the predominant flavor, with the juniper and coriander getting drowned out. Light bodied, with high carbonation makes this easy to drink. While interesting, I think the sweet lime flavor drowns out too much, leaving just a touch of bitterness from the tonic poking through. In the future, I’ll just make a gin and tonic.
