Starcut Ciders Immortal Jelly
A very pretty pour from the tap at Sugar Maple Milwaukee. Slightly red head to go with a mostly red cider. The blueberries and blackberries dominate the aroma. Reasonably sour taste and dry finish. Very good.

This is kind of an adult version of Woodchuck or whatever soda pop cider you might come across. It’s still a bit sweet but at a more subtle level, carbonation is high and there is a bit of the complexity you get out of actual fermented apple juice. There is a touch of smokiness from the yeast, some floral notes and a bit of white grape. It finishes clean and crisp w/ just a touch of tartness. I reckon this is a pretty reasonable thing to drink.

Short’s Power Of Love
Clear pink pour with quickly disappearing head. Strong aroma of rosemary blended with tart berry and lemon. Very sweet smelling. Softer carbonation, thinner mouthfeel, drier finish. Lots of pert berry lemonade flavor, dried rosemary, and dry white wine flavor on the finish. Average drink, a bit street.

Short’s Nicie Spicie
Pours a clear pale golden with a decent rocky eggshell head that settles slowly and leaves some foamy, wavy lace. Nose involves subtle spice, zesty lemon citrus, some herbal and almost minty tea-like notes. Somewhat sweet, lightly tart, and somewhat bitter. Light bodied, spritzy and active, lightly oily, finishing dry with herbal zest. Definitely ideal for summer, nice take on the ubiquitous wheat ale. Much easier drinking and lively than many I’ve had.

Short’s Strawberry Short’s Cake
Bottle: Cloudy amber with a short beige head. Strawberry, cream aroma. Taste is sweet, sugary strawberry, sweet bread, sugar.... Scent and flavor are remarkably close to exactly replicating a real strawberry shortcake.

Short’s Snake Juice
Aromas are bizarre - the coffee and hops combination comes across really poorly - somehow it strikes me as an overly mature, wild, rustic green - like an over-aged dandelion green. Not pleasant. Appearance is a light amber, mostly clear. Small off-white head. Taste is fairly dry and fairly bitter. Pallate is light to medium body; carbonation average; finish is fairly long, dry and with that bitter greens aroma. Overall this doesn’t work especially well for me; there is an slight odd attraction to the dry green bitterness but on balance it’s more of a negative.

Short’s Citra Local’s
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate tropical fruits, peach, and dank hops. It pours a mostly transparent dull golden-orange with a two finger white head that fades to a thick film. There is a lot of soapy lacing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate tropical fruits, light citrus, and peach. The finish has mild dank hops and lemon peel. It’s light bodied with soft carbonation and mouthfeel.

Short’s Huma Lupa Licious
12 ounce bottle, last of a six-pack from Woodmans in Janesville, WI. Served from a Fitgers pint glass just above fridge temperature. I like IPAS cold, so sue me! A beautiful pour, with a creamy, lasting meringue head atop a translucent, golden body...aroma is sweet, sticky and pungent, the several hop varieties creating overall a musky profile that carries most of the typical IPA smells at once - citrus, resin, grasses, dry herbs, but overall dominated by a sweet (almost sickly-sweet) honey-wet bark character...on the tongue, sweetness hits first but is overwhelmed by a strong deep bitterness at midpalate, drying out considerably into a long, tingly finish. Body is very full, almost too full and verging on syrupy (this is why it’s best quite cold) but that lingering dry, slightly woody finish very much saves it. On the whole, one of my favorite current Midwestern IPAs, and it’s ease of drinking and lack of fuesal alcohol presence belies it’s strength, just as it should be for a beer like this.

Light hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is fruity and malty with blood orange, peach, some grain, light spicy, earthy and herbal pepper corn notes, hints of alcohol. Taste is light sweet, light bitter and with a slight fruity tartness. Sweet malty and fruity finish with blood orange, peach, toffee, light bitterness, some warming alcohol and some spicy peppery notes. Medium bodied, average carbonation.

Short’s Anniversary Ale 2009-
Bottle courtesy of clownoisseur. Pours hazy pale golden with a small frothy offwhite head that leaves some spotty trace on the glass while dissiapting. Smell is malty, fruity and spicy with crackers, caramel, blood oranges grass, pepper corns, minerals, lemon zest and hints of alcohol. Taste is tiny sweet, bitter, very tiny sour, malty, fruity and spicy. Mouthfeel is round, tiny tart, astringent, tiny boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet, bitter and very tiny sour with caramel, blood orange juice and pepper corns. Cool but doesn’t quite manage to balance the different components.

On tap at Lunar Brewing Co. and shaker served, showing a cloudy, orangey gold color, with a presentable and rather persistent layer of white, thick & cakey froth, and patches & wavy spray of lacing. The aroma was an expressive nose of nectarine, guava, and some strawberry-like sweetness. Light to medium bodied, with decent carbonation, the taste added a citrus & rind bitterness that possessed some lingering quality, continued the subtle, fruity sweetness, mild malt, and finished with a bit of dryness. Nothing overpowering, but loved the nose, and found this quite drinkable.

Short’s Melt My Brain
Not sure where they were going for with this but it tastes good. It is sort of a slightly bitter and much less sweet lemon lime soda pop. I guess you might argue it doesn’t really taste like beer but what the hell does beer even taste like? These are troubled times, my dude.

12oz bottle Pour is light green, leaning towards yellow. No head to speak of. Strong aromas of tart lime and wheat (biscuit). Tonic adds a stringent quality to it. More complex than a beer/tonic style beer. Nuances of spice, yeast, sweet tarts, lemon zest. If you are looking for a beer, this is NOT it. If you are looking for a refreshing beverage, go no further. Could drink all day if abv was lower. Tried second half with ice, even that worked. Cheers

12oz bottle. Pour is golden with pronounced haziness. Head is rather thin but persistent. Hops aromas dominate on the nose. Citrus and fresh grain come to mind. Lots of tropical fruit (melon) combined with a sweet maltiness. Finish is more citrus and hops. I can see why this is a staple in there portfolio. Well put together IPA.

Thanks to Justin for this great brew!

Short’s Pinball Whispers
Bottle. Beer is light colored with a pinkish tint as it flows out of the bottle and into the glass. In the HF tulip it is a clear dark orange with a slight reddish tint; modest white head. Aroma is vinous; apples, cherries, malt, some alcohol, a light cough drop aroma. Really tastes like a cross between a fruit wine and a beer and is really not all that enjoyable to me. The fruit is more prominent up front, but the acidity kicks in quickly. Light sweetness followed by a medium sourness. The cherries linger. Medium+ bodied; less than average carbonation; drying finish. Really disappointing.

Bottle. Who wouldn’t want to try this??!! It’s gonna be awesome or awful... right? Anyhow, dark used motor oil pour with a thin head and aromas of cocoa and cayenne but then flavor is oranges and oranges and oranges with a little coffee and chocolate and a hint of heat at the tail end. The oranges are heavy-handed, but other than that it is pretty entertaining.

Short’s Bellaire Brown
bottle @ Chief Market / Lima OH --- Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Opaque brown / black color, tan head that quickly shrinks to the rim, star field of lace. Taste is edgy roasted malt that uses black coffee for most of the bittering. As the description says - meaty and burly. But, somehow, it stays light and refreshing. Nicely balanced and complex. I’d could buy it again.
