Fiddler Stout
From old notes. Must have had this at the source. Cask. Dark brown color. No head. Aroma's are fruity and malty/grainish. Flavor: fruity, light roast, light sweet. A bit thin bodied. Enough carbonation. Finishes with a firm bitterness that mellows quickly.

Fiddler Kriek
Draft - Very deep red body with a very little brown touch, creamy pink head; Very small nose, quite a bit of kriek aroma but hidden by warm hop notes and a very strange and unfitting touch of celery; The body has a soft texture, a soft small carbonation in a slightly bitter body that is only very little sour; It finishes sour but even more bitter, no kriek aromas but lots of hop and again this strange celery Not to good, but applause for the attempt.

Fiddler Tripel
On tap at Arendsnest. Bubbly Tripel. Bitter, and quite spicey with lacey texture. Tripel-styl, sweet caramel flavour. Cognacy even. Quite nice. Pity the brewery is out of business. Maybe it will be resurrected.

Fiddler Tripel
Tap at Arendsnest, march 07. Full, fruity, peachy aroma with an orangey touch. Yeast, alcoholic flavor. Some bubblegum and a nice burning ending. Medium MF with some chewy flavor and a mild ending. Shinny, clear, golden color and a rather thin white head. Nice strong (not so strong) dutch golden ale.

Tap at Fiddler’s in Den Haag. Nice triple, orange, golden colored brew. Without a head. Fruity, sweet aroma. Balanced bitterness with grainy and light fruity taste. A triple combined with the english style brews in mind, with english hops. Nice surprisingly variant.

Fiddler Tarwebock
On tap at Proeflokaal, Delft. Nice caramel, milky and soft hops in the aroma. It looks real great. Even the waiter was complementing the brewer for making such a easy-to-tap-stil-looking-good beer. Ruby color, beige creamy head, good lace. In the aroma again caramel and milk but also butterscotch, licorice and a soft bitter finish. Very smooth, very easy going.

Fiddler Ale
Cask at the brewpub. Faint aroma, some hops, some malts. Dark yellow color, off-white head, fair lace. Sweet, soft bitterness but well hopped (even some cascade-like floral flavors). Light herbal, hints of caramel. Soft and mild. Maybe a bit too mild for a Bitter Ale.

Fiddler Kriek
On tap at the brewpub. Malty aroma with some cherries and hints of cherry pits. Red color, pinkish head, good lace. Malty, sweetish, light bitter start, some cherry, cherry pits. Very nice mouthfeel, milky start turning very full and a woody dry finish. Much better than all the Dutch and Belgian so called kriek beers that are booming.

Draft at the brewpub - the pump clip said 6,8%. Sweet bock, true to the style, but much too sweet for my liking. Like they have diluted brown sugar in the beer!

CAsk at the brewpub. Rather thin and watery, there is both aroma and a hoppy finish in there, but I don’t feel it’s enough of it.

Brewery tap. Dark brown color. Toffee and a hint of roast in the aroma. Blackcurrant, butterscotch, butter and licorice in the flavor. Long licorice bitter aftertaste. More like a strong ale instead of a bock. Nevertheless a fine beer.

Fiddler Pale Ale
Cask glass
Consumed at De Fiddler, Den Haag, May 2006

Smells like semi-sweet clover honey. Has a small filmy head on a golden honey orange colored body. Sweet and light and malty up front, moderately bitter on the back... some honey and C hop notes, though fairly light. British IPA style I suppose, but nothing really to get excited about.

Fiddler Stout
Cask glass
Consumed at De Fiddler, Den Haag, May 2006

Dark red and brown with more ruby hues at the bottom of the glass. Not really any sense of smoked or roasted malts in this one, but possibly some burnt maple and brown-ale-like qualities. Somewhat sweet dark cherries noticed, as well as old oak wood. Too light, just a bit too sweet. Uninteresting.

Re-rate, On tap at the brewpub: Peach aroma with hint of caramel and a bit soapy in the beginning. Light hazy, yellow color, tiny off-white head, good lace. Light sweet, bitter, apricot in the flavor, fruity, hint of honey. Soft, bitter dry and flat finish. English hops in a Belgian Ale. Jan 2006, 3.5: On tap at Winterbierfestival. Strong caramel aroma. Light hazy, amber color, off-white head, good lace. Sweet, caramel, lots of bitter hops, dry finish. Strange combination of an abbey tripel with english hops.

Fiddler Stout
On draft at Fiddler. Very dark coloured, brownish head. Roasted malts in aroma. In flavour liquorice dominates (over the top imho), malt presence, quite bitter. The strong liquorice flavour totally ruins the fun for me. Not my kind of stout or porter (whatever they want it to be...).

From tap at the brewery’s pub. Golden color. White, small “English” head. Good lacing, actually. The aroma is herbal and hoppy. Grain and apple. Long hoppy, herbal, very bitter aroma. Moderately astringent mouthfeel. The hop content is balanced. I think it’s good when there is a food next to this beer: soup or pizza.

Fiddler Ale
From tap at the brewery’s pub. Dark gold color. Virtually no (English-style) head. Very subtle aroma: grape skins, hop hints. Leaves a very pleasant mouthfeel. Yet, the flavor is plain: moderate bitter, a bit yeasty, very remote fruit notes. Dry and light-to-medium body. Flat and soft. Quite balanced for the style, yet too plain for me.

Fiddler Stout
From tap at the brewery’s pub. Dark brown body with ruby tints. Small off-white diminishing head. Virtually no lacing. Was served too cold. The aroma got frozen. Only coffee captures first. Then gets some sweet notes, dark bread, cassis. Coffee and hops in flavor. Burnt mouthfeel. Medium in body, dry a bit watery. Soft.

Fiddler Jubilator
On draft at the PINT beerfestival. From this brewery I did suspect a British style beer, so I was quite surprised when tasting this one. Intended as a Dunkelweizen. Not bad, some sour in there.. a light bitter taste, some yeast and fruitiness. Overall nice balanced beer.

Draught Huge amber head, very dense, cream-like; hazy red-amber beer. Cakelike, cookies malt, rather sweet nose. Sweet malty (ambrée, cookiek, Münich) with overlying fruity notes, sourish but does not really taste infected. Refreshing despite the decent ABV. Quite well-bodied, certain slickness, orangezeste in the aftertaste. Not unattractive beer. The beer didn’t strike me as British, but I would never have guessed the intended style.

PINT-bokbier 2003: Very cloudy brown color, short creamy head. Initial aroma and taste i described were: Creamy, bitter, coffee, chocolat. I referred to the Guinness even. But after half a glass of this odd brew, i discovered a more fruity aroma, and the notes in my little book changed to: strong berry, grapes. Overall, quite enjoyable.

Cask at the brewpub: Citric, lemon and some malts in the aroma. Pale yellow color, white head, good lace. Malty, grass, herbs, light sweet, hints of citric sourness in the background, bitter. Quite full for just 4%, dry mouthfeel finish. Well hopped. Much better than the previous time but much changed as well. They even have a new brewmaster. Tap, Mar 2003, 1.8: Light aroma with fresh apples and a hint of plastic. Pale golden color, small white head, few lace. Tastes like apple juice mixed with lots of water. Long bitter finish.
