Bottle from Belgibeer, pours black with a huge head, light aromas of coffee and cocoa, with a faint note of banana. Dry and burnt-bitter, a bit yeasty, like a hybrid of Irish dry Stout and something, maybe Schwarzweisse?

Sainte Hélène Black Mamba
Bottle at home. Bit of a gusher, some lost down the sink. Pours almost purple-black and opaque with a massive rocky head. This has the unfortunate effect of damaging the aroma, but some funky hop is still there with the dark roasted grain. Bitter to taste with only a short burst of initial sweetness. Roasted malts, chocolate, slightly salty flavours with a long dry finish.

Sainte Hélène Simcoe Lager
Bottle at home. Pours yellow and clear. Huge white head that threatens to overrun the glass. A huge initial release of hop aroma, as the head decreases this also fades somewhat. Slightly sweet to start then a good balance of bitterness. Good grain base, slightly dusty, sherbet lemon taste and a dry finish. Well balanced, pleasant and refreshing.

Sainte Hélène Black Mamba
Draught at BBF. Very thick and dense, creamy, nitro-tap like, lacing, yellowish beige head over a black beer with burgundy edges. Aroma of charcoal, roasted coffee beans and dito chicory, bitter chocolate, cold coffee grounds, iron, fig, dried porcini, dried tea leaves. Dry and umami onset (dried seaweed), very subtle salty touch but low in sweetness, rounded and very creamy, soft and bit thinnish body, coffee grounds bitterness, some iron but not overly metallic, peppery hop bitter touch in the end while the roasted bitterness continues. Dubbed and English style stout by the brewer but this seems closer to a classic Irish dry stout in most respects. Whatever it is though, this is convincingly Anglo-Saxon in style for a Belgian stout, have a point for that.

Sainte Hélène La Pionnier IPA
Keg at The Delirium Cafe, Brussels. Clouded gold with white head. This does start with a Belgian yeasty note, quite fruity which then develops into a hoppy, drying character. Some bitterness, some grapefruit zesty notes, good depth of flavour with a grassy note in the close. Good stuff.

Donkerzwart bier met mokkakleurige plakkerige schuimkraag. Moutig aroma, gebrande koffie.

Aroma is kind of a standard BW with caramel, toffee, raisins, bittersweet. Flavor’s like nose plus a little blast of zingy tartness in the finish that is very nice. Carbonation is just right for good body. Appearance is ok. Nice brew.

Carbinnation moyenne. Trouve à la Brasserie Delneste - Froidmont.

From Carrefour Florenville.

From Carrefour Florenville.

From Carrefour Florenville.

12.7 oz bottle from The Party Source. Pours a slightly hazy deep amber color with a small off white head. The aroma has caramel, dark fruits, some booze with a hint of spice. The flavor has sweet caramel malt, dark ripe fruit, booze, some mild floral character that leads to a strange finish, some wood, sticky mouthfeel but soft carbonation, just ok.

Bouteille de 33 cl. Couleur brune otangée, trouble, mousse assez faible, tenue moyenne.
