Barley Mill Pen City Oatmeal Stout
Listed as "Pen City", probably same beer. Soft barley aroma, has good foam on deep dark brown body. Flavour is okay molasses, dark chocolate, some licorice, mouthfeel is full and smooth. This is nice, easy, well crafted, probably their best beer.

Barley Mill Berry Sour
Has the stench of soft rancid berry, tartness, armpit hops, still foul no matter what. Has okay deep ruby body and some modest foam. Flavour is rotting cheese with some tart berry notes. Terribly cloying aftertaste. This is totally wrong, it only gains a few points because it looks mostly correct and is barely tart.

Barley Mill Stallion
Vague hops aroma, and I mean really vague. Has murky yellow body with no foam. Flavour is weak hops and vague citrus. Mouthfeel is watery with very modest carbonation. This is the very textbook definition of a boring IPA.

2.4
Barley Mill Cayuse Wheat Ale
Soft grain aroma served with a lemon wedge and the lemon lingers. Has weak gold body and little foam. Flavour is weak grain character and nothing else. Mouthfeel has okay carbonation but nothing else. This is highly mediocre, maybe a few dozen more lemon wedges could make it palatable.

Barley Mill Rude Pony
Served with an orange slice - who serves an IPA with an orange slice? Anyways it smells of soft hops overpowered by said orange slice, has okay gold body with modest foam. Flavour is soft hoppiness, slightly sweet. Mouthfeel is full, decent carbonation and good oiliness. Hardly memorable but light years ahead of the other ones I've tried from them so far.

1.6
Barley Mill Nite Mare Brown Ale
Murky brown sugar smell, has muddy brown liquid like the discharge from rusty pipes. Flavour is all butter and brown sugar. Cloying butter aftertaste. This is bad in every respect.

Barley Mill Mustang Pale Ale
Soft caramel on the nose, has weak copper body with little foam. Flavour is okay maltiness, some hints of hops. Mouthfeel is way too thin but there's okay carbonation. Average at best.

Barley Mill Classic Genuine Draft
Way too soft grain aroma, has weak gold body with minimal foam. Flavour is all heavy butter, weak grain. Finish is all cloying butter. This is all sorts of wrong.

Barley Mill Caballero Cerveza Mexican Lager
Soft grain aroma, served with a lime so the lime dominates. Has weak gold body with little foam. Flavour is all murky grain, cloying buttery finish. Very mediocre and boy that lime is necessary.

Barley Mill Pen City Oatmeal Stout
On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out subdued dry cocoa and light oats. Flavour is a bit metallic, with oats, subdued dry cocoa and biscuity malt. Thin but pleasant enough. One of the best Barley Mill beers, which isn’t saying much.

Barley Mill Nite Mare Brown Ale
On tap at Barley Mill Pub, pours a deep dark reddish brown with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, not much else. Flavour is very bland, with toasted malt dominating, with a fairly sharp astringency on the finish. Not very clean or easy drinking. Bad.

Barley Mill Caballero Cerveza Mexican Lager
On tap at Barley Mill Pub, pours a clear yellow with a small white head, served with a lime wedge (lol). Aroma is more or less bland other than lime. Flavour is even blander than the classic genuine draft. Tastes like nothing. Pointless creation, but at least clean.

Barley Mill Classic Genuine Draft
On tap at Barley Mill Pub, pours a clear piss yellow with a large white head. Aroma is crisp and clean, with straw and biscuity malt. Flavour is basically indistinguishable from a macro lager, with notes of straw, corn and dry biscuity notes. Clean and easy to drink, but it’s basically an industrial lager. What more needs to be said?

Barley Mill Mustang Pale Ale
Now called Mustang Pale Ale as I received 2 menus (a drink menu and a food menu) and one menu said Palomino Pale Ale and the other stated Mustang Pale Ale, even though they only have one pale ale on tap. Anyways, pours a golden amber color with a small white head that leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. Mild aroma of grains. Taste is a citrus and grassy hop bitterness with a grainy malt sweetness. Light bodied with moderate carbonation. A decent pale ale, but there are many better ones out there to be had.

Taste is light caramel and chocolate malty sweetness with a grassy hop bitterness. Light to medium bodied with mild carbonation. Slightly below average for the style.

Pint on tap at the brewpub pours a pale straw color with a small white head that leaves only a few small spots of lace behind. Aroma is very mild with some grains. Taste is very light grass bitterness and grainy malty sweetness, but does not finish harshly. Light body and light carbonation. Below average.

Barley Mill Caballero Cerveza Mexican Lager
Draught at the brewpub
Pale blond color, creamy head; unfortunately served with a slice of lime. Like its sister Cayuse Wheat, this has almost no aroma and flavor, but it has some corn instead of the trace of wheat; the bitterness is low. Poor.

Barley Mill Red Clover Honey
(Draught) Sampled at the brewpub on June 10, 2010. Lasting white, thin head atop a copper body. Nose is malted corn. Very thin, perhaps some honey in the base but too watery. Definitely no clover spiciness is showing through. I appreciate the effort but this beer needs retooling. 5/2/4/1/8

Tasty brew was the first of a great festival. This was malty and finished quite nice. I was impressed lets hope they are all the good or better. What a great festival start.

Barley Mill Mustang Pale Ale
Draught @ Milestone’s in the Vancouver airport. I confirmed with the bartender that this beer is made in B.C, so I’m assuming this is the brew. Light copper, generous white head. Grainy aroma with a hint of hops. Interestingly, that hint vanishes on the palate, which is sweet and grainy with a hint of toast.

From can. Pale golden beer with a light off-white head. Aroma is lightly orangey with a bit of crisp, if somewhat industrial pale malt base. The flavour is quite bland. Lightly fruity flavour. Watery palate but it’s not terribly offensive.

Thanks to Oakes for a can of this . A small white head starts the show. Then some light caramel malt steps in briefly. Thin, watery, inoffensive and ordinary.

Smooth, malty, and not too sweet. This is as good a session brown as I’ve tasted on tap. I’d like to try this one at a warmer temperature than they serve it at, though.

Went down smooth without much to distinguish it from any other lager at a brewpub. Good graininess, no adjuncty bite, so can’t complain as it’s meant to quench.

From a can sent by Oakes! Pours medium amber with a thin head of white that falls immediately. Nutty caramel aroma, little to no hop aroma. The flavor is lightly sweet lacking any hop character, but the palate is a bigger detractor than the lack of flavors. Chalky, some cardboard with a bit of astringency in the finish. Needs more hops.
