Lion Heart Stout
A pitch black brew that had an amazingly bland flavor that was non-descript. The most notable part of this beer was the complete lack of carbonation. Not horrible, but on the low end of drinkable.

Bottle to pint glass Consummation: Ginger and beer...well ginger anyway. Adjunct: Surely, this does not taste like a beer. LOTS of sugar, lots of ginger. I donít think I taste the rum or the cascade.

New Beer Distributors, NYC bottle: Pours hazy whitish yellow with barely a head. Smells like high quality ginger beer. Booze is barely detectable in the nose or taste. Taste is powerful ginger beer taste with the bitterness and bit being there. Not for people who do not lover ginger beer.

Bottle. Cloudy greenish yellow, no head. Aroma of youngish ginger, loads of sugar, some lemon. Everything says soft drink until the texture turns out to be a _little_ bit beery: itís just got a bit of body and the ginger and sugar make it seem shandy like. The ginger is terrific - spicy and with a quick burst of heat. That and a little bit of bitterness stop the sweetness from hanging around too long, but itís still mostly sugar water. OK.

12 oz. bottle from Liquor Barn - Springhurst. Aroma: Strong ginger straightaway with a moderate spicy sweetness. Appearance: Hazy straw yellow pour with a fizzy white head thatís gone in moments. Flavor: Sustained strong ginger throughout; really more ginger spicy than any other ginger beer Iíve had. Itís fairly sweet, but the ginger spiciness is a nice counterpoint; the finish brings the strongest ginger intensity yet. Palate: Light body, slick texture, average carbonation, lingering finish. Overall: For what it is, itís totally enjoyable. A shame that it seems not to be made anymore.

Poured a clouded light greenish brown colour (like most other ginger beers) with no head. Carbonation extremely low and fine so doesnít have that soft-drink mouthfeel to it. Aroma strongly of fresh and real (not artificial) ginger with an underlying sweetness. Taste quite fiery due to the strength of the taste of raw ginger; slightly sweet to balance the ginger. Light body. Crisp with a fiery ginger finish. A really nice ginger beer.

I got this to fill a mixed six pack on the off chance it was ratable and, hey, it totally is. I am not sure it is really beer. They say it uses hops but might just be fermented sugar water otherwise so who knows for sure really. I say count it if those gluten free beers which are made from sorgum syrup count. Or just count it because itís close enough who cares. In anycase, this stuff is not exactly a sophisticated beverage but it is packed w/ nice fresh ginger flavor. It is cloudy yellow and headless, a bit heavy, along the lines of soda pop w/ less carbonation. The ginger is really the only thing this got going and if itís artificial (which I am not saying it is) it is at least a passable representation of the spice. It is bright w/ a hint of earthy pine and a bit of hot ginger bite on the back of the tongue. Normally this kinda soda pop shit doesnít sit well we me but I am so much of a sucker for ginger that I like it a lot anyway.

I enjoyed this a lot. More like ginger beer-soda than actual beer, but technically beer and seems like its brewed the same way. Ginger pulp on the bottom, so you know this is fresh and not artificial. Spicy flavors up front with plenty of sweetness on the finish to even out. Again, natural sugar cane flavors rather than all this other stuff added. This is something I would get again...would be a great base for beer mixtails.

Royal Jamaican Alcoholic Ginger Beer
Pours hazy golden into the glass with a wispy head that reduces to wispy trace lacing. Tons and tons of ginger "floaties" swirling in the glass, so I am expecting "fresh" ginger in the brew. The nose is strictly of ginger ale. Flavors are extremely sweet, spot-on for a commercial ginger ale, with lots of fresh ginger spiciness. some lemon, tons of candi sugars, and warming ginger spice to finish. The ginger is very heavy in this soda-esque offering. Honestly, if one likes a commercial ginger ale, he/she would not be disappointed in this brew. Iím a bit perplexed by some of the negative reviews, as if this were being treated as a beer with ginger added late in the process, providing an "essence", whereas this brew expressly is marketed as an alcoholic ginger "ale". Normally, I find many radlers and fruit brews cloying by adding extracts after the boil, but the sweetness to this, knowing what to expect going into it, is quite nice. The mouthfeel is active with ginger spiciness, the carbonation quite a bit softer than a soda, though. Sweet, with lemony citrus and spiced all the way from beginning to the end, what it may lack in complexity certainly is compensated by the interesting brew process that even allows this to be rated as an official brew. Many in this category are not up to the brewing standards, and thus, are kicked out of the "rateable" category (i.e. "malt beverages"). I find this to have some nice "hair of the dog" aspects... not only does it help after an evening of deep indulgence, but also the ginger properties do quite a proficient job of settling an upset stomach, regardless of whether one has imbibed a bit too much or not. All-in-all, it stands for what it is, and I quite think it does a nice job at that.

12oz bottle from pace high carryout. cloudy gold pour with no head and visible floaties. aroma of strong ginger and sugar. tastes are also candied sugar and ginger with a spicy heat to it. not as bad as I was expecting - the spiciness knocks down the sweetness quite a bit. I like the lasting burn through the finish. felt like this would make for a good mixer and poured a little bourbon in the second half - not bad.

Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Poured into a shaker pint. Dark brownish black with ruby hues and a nice tan head. Fair lacing. Roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee on the nose. Royal Jamaican Alcoholic Ginger Beer
Pours a hazy grey-beige colour with a head that disappears quickly, as it is fizzy, leaving no lacing. Spicy nose with lots of fresh ginger and pine needle notes. The cane sugar balanced the taste between the spiciness of the ginger and the light sweetness. Light malt lingers. Quite refreshing and very spicy ginger, just like real ginger beer pop. Not as sweet as most said it was.

Royal Jamaican Alcoholic Ginger Beer
Interesting yellow/white hue not unlike lemon aid, with no head. Ginger is quite present in the aroma, as well as citrus and perhaps some grass. Despite my adoration for ginger, this is putrid. The robust ginger flavour is wonderful, but this beer is far too sweet. Initially the taste is bubbly and spicy, but immediately following this, the cane sugar taste is far too apparent. Tastes akin to a cold honey ginger tea with far too much honey.

Royal Jamaican Alcoholic Ginger Beer
(Bottle) Hazy pale yellow gold with no head. Pleasant aroma of ginger. Medium body, slightly syrupy, and well carbonated with a fine bright carbonation. The taste is dramatic: there is so much ginger! It is ginger from the foretaste straight through to the extremely long fiery aftertaste. The flavour profile does change, mostly notably from flavour of ginger to ginger burn, but also there is sweetness that grows fast at the start and then subsides. Normally I would consider this amount of sweetness to be too much; however with the intense ginger and the length of the aftertaste, it is probably necessary for balance. The sweetness seems sugary, not malty. There really is no hint that this is a based on a regular beer and I assume that it is a traditional ginger beer, fermenting sugar. As the former, it would disappoint, but as the latter it is pushing the envelope. A very impressive ginger beer.

BOD 226/14. Pours a turbid, off white, very light amber of suspended ginger. No head, lacing or retention. Exceptional nose of ginger over a sweet background with a sweet citrus note. Light medium body with a nice slick oily texture. The carbonation level is above normal with a nice effervescent finish. The flavor profile is 2 dimensional and quite intense. It begins with intense ginger that fades into an intense candy like sweetness. As the sweetness fades, the ginger burn begins with an intensity on the tongue then flows to the back of the throat. The intensity is similar to chili pepper - this baby will light you up. Such makes it hard to assign taste ratings - some will love itís intensity, others shall hate it. If the intent was to bombard you with ginger and itís spicy heat - they have certainly succeeded. Personally, I like this one.

Bottle from Brewski 041014. You know it is a good ginger beer when after the first sip you get that burn in the back of your throat and it travels all the way down and even numbs the lips. Dusty, must, earthy and a real mouth number. Strongest ginger beer I have had - more burn than some chili beers I have had.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours a light ginger color - not red - like the root skin or maybe the root. Not much head, and not for very log. It smells so ginger, and there seems a hint of rum. Med body. Boy is it ginger. It burns. Some sugar, and in this case it may be a good thing to carry the spice. Not noticing Cascade citrus. Just lots of ginger, and maybe a rum note. Damn, but its refreshing after hot yard work.

This is one zippy ginger beer! If you drink ginger ale and find yourself always wishing for a bit more of that ginger bite, this is the beer for you. With a spicy heat that lingers after each sip, I bet it would pair well with a bowl of stir-fry, or could be sipped to clear your sinuses come cold and flu season! Be aware that it does go down more like a soda than an alcoholic beverage though, the sweetness masks the fact that this is more than just a soda!

Tallahassee, Fl. - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - 12 oz bottle. Pours an un beer-like cloudy pale yellow with no head. Aroma is strong ginger and soap. Flavor is strong ginger oriented which overrides anything else that this is trying to deliver. Medicinal accents and some industrial cleaning soapy notes make their way into the back end. Mouthfeel is a bit harsh and burns the throat as it goes down. If you are seeking a ginger rush for some reason - it delivers.

The best Ginger Beer around. Slightly hazy and definitely an authentically brewed ginger beer (as opposed to using essence as some do). It is well balanced with ginger that does not over power the senses. Thereís a slight sweetness to the mix which just makes the beer even more moorish.
