Yarpivo Yantarnoe (Amber) 1.9
Mehanatna Bulgarian Bar, NYC bottle: pours golden with white head. Aroma is crappy rice lager. Taste is relatively inoffensive but it is probably too sweet. No hop character. Bland.

Yarpivo Yantarnoe (Amber) 2.2
This says amber on the label but is only maybe the slightest shade darker than an pilsener or something, topped w/ a short lived foamy head. It is malt-centric and a bit sweet and heavy w/ no real hop character at all aside from a slight bit of grassiness. It is just on the edge of being drinkable w/ a full body and moderate carbonation. It gets kinda cidery and weird as it warms. I probably will not be revisiting this one unless I am sure it is perfectly fresh.

500ml bottle pours a clear colden yellow with medium white head and good lacing. Aroma is of grains and toasted malts and corn. Taste is sweet, with slight bitterness in the finish. Body is light but not watery, with slight carbonation and a crisp mouthfeel. A truly enjoyable lager at a very reasonable price for an import.

Yarpivo Yantarnoe (Amber) 3
Pours gold, slightly amber with puffy slightly off-white head. Scent is lightly toasted grain and malt. Taste is sweetly caramel...slight grain. Sweet malt. "Freshly bready" A very decent beer.

Yarpivo Yantarnoe (Amber) 2.1
I bought a 51oz plastic bottle of this at Woodmanís West in Madison, WI for $1.99. Pours a clear amber color with a slight but quickly disappearing head. Scent is mild with cheap malts and the taste is watery with grassy grains. Is decently sweet and light with a dry finish. In the realm of beers this isnít very good, but at $2 for 51oz this is a great tasting beer. I would take this any day over a 24oz can of Miller/Bud for the same price.

Yarpivo Yantarnoe (Amber) 2.7
Plastic bottle from Geneís. Pours a deep gold, near amber. Thin white head. Nose is fruity and sweet. Malt notes are barely perceived. Maize and dough. On taste, quite sweet and doughy. Some apple notes and a hint of cardboard. A bit chemically and rough but somehow charming when served ice cold. A nice enough change. Decent.

Yarpivo Krepkoe (Strong) 2.9
One of the better strong EE beers, this one has a surprising amount of nutty caramel malt (almost stout-ish) along w/low carbonation, low hops, and a really well-concealed alcohol kick. Interesting (brighton)

Yarpivo Yantarnoe (Amber) 2.3
Not very good--highly metallic taste throughout; low hops, adjunct, and more metal. Strangely refreshing but not that pleasant (Brighton)

Yarpivo Krepkoe (Strong) 1.9
Bomber. Pours a clear pale gold with fizzy white head. Aroma is a bit bland, distant notes of yeast and cooked rice. Taste of some roasted malt and caramel covered by grains and storebrand Russian vodka. A slight burning from the vodka notes with Styrofoam and some caramel malt. I paid 99 cents for a bomber, but I donít think Iíll be doing this again.

Yarpivo Yantarnoe (Amber) 1.6
500ml bottle in a shaker. Pours light golden with a white head. Flavor of a typical pale lager with the toast, but thereís a lot of the bad tin flavor thatís in some bad beers of this style. Better than a lot of cheap beers, but not good.

Rice is the adjunct here, it isnít any worse than a budweiser, but that doesnít make it good.

500 ml red can. Pours a dark amber/gold. Smell is of alcohol and sugar. Taste is of paper, alcohol, walnuts, and sugar. It has a suprisingly low alcoholic burn though. Despite the off taste and smell, it was quite smooth and easy to drink I thought, easily chuggable. Not a great beer but strong for a Russian Malt Liquor. Yarpivo Krepkoe (Strong) 0.9
Appearance: clear ambery gold, one finger head that vanishes quickly. Aroma: sweet malted caramel and grains; chemicals. Taste: burnt caramel, some bitter hops, industrial solvents. Finish: sweetly metallic, with astringent light hops. Notes: Lousy. Definitely a hint of urine like the user below noted. Were the grains harvested at Chernobyl?

This is what you end up with when you are waiting on someone else and are bored at Andyís Fruit Ranch. It is lagery and strong. If I bought a 40oz. of malt liquor and this was in it Iíd be contented as it is decent for malt liquor. However this was not the situation and drinking it made me a little fussy. Serving: Bottle

Poured from 16 oz bottle. This is really not good. Aroma is of some type of cleaning detergent mixed with urine. Appearance is of a frothy urine. Taste wise, well, itís flat but too carbonated at the same time, which I didnít think was possible. It just tastes like a horrible lager that I wonít buy again. To boot, I drank this with a Trader Joeís Vegetable Masala burger, which is probably the worst food/drink mix that I can think of.

Yarpivo Krepkoe (Strong) 2.1
This pours from a bottle marked 24.01.09-14A-24.01.10-J. It pours an adequate looking copper-amber with a soapy smooth looking off-white head. The aroma comes across as stale malts and bread. The mouthfeel is in the medium range. The taste is also rather bland and stale with a bit of hops in the background. It was not very appetizing.

Yarpivo Yantarnoe (Amber) 2.3
From the 25 fl. oz. bottle. It pours pale yellow with an active fizzy white head about two fingers thick that fizzles away after a few moments. The aroma has a sweetened malts, sugar, and rice. The mouthfeel is fairly thin but not watered down. The taste is very sweet and malty with little in the way of hops. It has a kind of tart ending. It is not very drinkable other than it goes down quickly but leaves little impression.

Yarpivo Krepkoe (Strong) 1.9
Sample at the "From Russia With Suds" tasting on 01/02/10: This beer is a clear pale orange-yellow color with a thin white head that recedes quickly. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma is vinous with malt notes in the background. Medium body with a wine cooler character and flavors of sweet malt, alcohol and grain. The finish is watery and reminiscent of a malt liquor, yet still with the vinous quality. Overall this is an odd brew that I didnít enjoy very much.
