3.5 Bodicote No.9 Had this at Chris O’s pre GBBF tasting, 02-08-08 cheers for a wonderful day Chris Pours very clear and almost chesnut in colour. The nose has really softened out over the years, aroma had more than a nod to diluted malt whisky with some sweetness. Some almonds in the mouth along with a touch of icing sugar. I used to drink this regularly in the late eighties and early nineties as it was my most local brewery so it was a great and welcome surprise to see Steve bring a bottle of this along , cheers Steve. This actually tasted better than in the pub, certainly in the last few years of its life as a brewpub, as in the last few years of its existence the quality and consistency of Bodicote beers slipped somewhat. 3 Bodicote No.9 A Mes rate: Bottle at Chris O’s Pre GBBF Tasting Thanks to Steve for this 15 year old rarity. Red amber colour with the head not surviving. Kinda like an old man who has lost his hair. Sadly this has decended into the grips of petrol. Lots of caramel, the hops are totally gone but the aged flavours of the malt still work pretty well. I would never have this to have expected this long actually. Impressed. Sunday, August 10, 2008

2.7 Bodicote Boilermaker Cask Conditioned at The Plough, Bodicote. Brown amber beer with thin head. Sweeter than expected with a heavy spicy base. Overlaid hops towards the finish with a tannin twang. A blend I think. Thursday, April 15, 2004

3.1 Bodicote Golden Balls Cask Conditioned at The Plough, Bodicote. Amber to gold beer with short head. Strong peppery hop flavour comes through initially, almost like dry tea with a sweetish base. Dry, fully ferented, a pretty decent attempt. Thursday, April 15, 2004

2.3 Bodicote Cherry Gosling Cask Conditioned at The Plough, Bodicote. Amber coloured with little head. Jims attempt at a fruit beer, take a standard beer, steep it with cherries, allow to brew. This is rated from his first attempt, expect the method to improve. Sunday, January 11, 2004

3.5 Bodicote Porter Oxford Beer Fest. Gravity. Mine was called Old English Porter with an abv of 4.4% - and I have a website which lists both the Porter and the Old English Porter, but the brewery's own website doesn't list the Old English. Waffle, waffle, waffle. It's late, and I've a belly full of beer. What am I saying? Who knows. Who cares. Who will even read this. Uhem. Murky brown. Initial hit is very pleasing - a huge rush of licorice and sasparilla - but soon fades into a mustiness of little distinction. Some sour fruit and aged oak notes. Some slightly rancid raspberry. gets more interesting. Flavours swirl around. Mmmm. A curious beer. Fruit flavours becoming stronger. Interesting. Friday, October 17, 2003

3.1 Bodicote Life Sentence Cask Conditioned at The Plough, Bodicote. Another of Jim's newer beers, he is widening his scope, but this dark amber beer does retain some of the brewery's normal characteristics. A smoky dry flavour, with slightly boiled hops, but on top of this there is a sweet fruity waft of flavour. One of Jim's better brews. Monday, September 8, 2003

3.6 Bodicote Life Sentence My gosh, thank you for a beer at this festival other than a golden bitter. This was brewed as an anniversary ale for the Bodicote's 20 years of brewing. Deep, dark amber-brown, with hints of red. A similarly deep fruitiness comes through, with the flavor driven by a cherry vein. Sweet and silky. Not the most complex beer, but well brewed. (on gravity cask, 2003 Charlbury Beer Festival, Oxon) Saturday, July 12, 2003

3 Bodicote 3 Goslings Cask Conditioned at Plough, Bodicote. Pale yellow amber beer, thin white head. Not subtle, a straight hoppy pale ale, thinnish little character. Sunday, June 8, 2003

2.7 Bodicote Triple X Cask Conditioned at Plough, Bodicote. Jim's strong Winter Warmer, mid to dark brown, fluffy head. Strong alcohol flavours dominate the drinking of this beer, little subtelty, just out and out brandy like flavour. Sunday, June 8, 2003

3.9 Bodicote Porter Cask Conditioned at The Plough, Bodicote. In my opinion, and many others, this is Jim's finest. Dark Ruby Red almost Black in colour with a thick malty head. A blast of fruit and nut flavour bursts into the mouth on tasting. Ignore the strength rating, this varies enormously, at Banbury Beer Festival a Cask is held back for 6 months and is really in peak condition. This a chewey dark flavoufull beer that warms the cockles. Sunday, June 8, 2003

2.8 Bodicote Bitter Cask Conditioned, Plough, Bodicote. Amber brown in colour with a thin white head. Thin flavoured light bitter with gentle sweet malt and a soupcon of bitterness. Some fruit tang, but overall a gentle drinking session Ale. One of the pubs stanby's, always on and always popular. Sunday, June 8, 2003

3.1 Bodicote No.9 Cask Conditioned at Plough, Bodicote. This mid brown beer is the most popular of the Bodicote Beers. Named after the house number of the Pub this is a strongly flavoured bitter with plenty of dry hop quality. Sharp malt flavours complement the overall taste. Jim has been brewing at the pub since 1982 and has a regular custom from many appreciative locals. Sunday, June 8, 2003
