From draft at the brewery. Crystal clear copper-amber with a lasting off-white head. Quiet aroma is malty in the way of graham cracker and toasted cereals with quiet floral hoppiness. It’s lightly yeasty and minerallic with subtle off-notes of grain husks and paper. There’s a small bit of toffee and pipe tobacco in the nose as well, it’s the most interesting aspect of the beer, but unfortunately it’s pretty dull. Medium-light bodied, malty, sweet, lightly bitter and acidic. Carbonation and malt texture are both a little rough and edgy, and the body is watery and the finish is quick. No major defects, just bland expression and watery / flabby body.

Bottle, pours brown with a Fast-settling head and a fruity caramel nose. Crisp, malty and bittersweet, if I didn’t know what this was it could easily be a sweetish Southern English brown bitter.

This is a no nonsense Vollbier which is very drinkable. Though simple in its flavour spectrum, it does what it presents very well. A distinct flavour and drinkability, what more can one want?

Nice malty, tangy quaffer with enough bitterness to be serious. Bottle. Amber brown and rather clear, suspect light filtering before bottling. Sticky grayish lace. Fruity light caramel nose, mild toast, with notes of sweet tomato sauce and tart cherry, and earth. Light caramel sweetness more than balanced by firm bitterness and slight acidic tang, bit of mineral, trailing into light lingering resinous bitter aftertaste, dry finish. Would have another if I were there.

Sweetish taste of toffee, nuts and grains. Short, pleasant bitter finish with shy metallic hints. Thin to medium body, smooth mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Very solid beer with great appearance and pleasant but not very exciting taste and aroma.

On tap @Ma che siete venuti a fà (Rome). Ambrata scarica, abbastanza limpida, schiuma abbondante, discretamente persistente. Corpo leggero, carbonazione media. Ottima Zwickel.

My Bottom Line:
Delicate nutty caramel and herbal hop bitterness get along nicely in this dry and süffig lager.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy sheet of foam covers the misty auburn.
-The flavor profile is balanced.
-This is clearly in the same flavor family as their neighbor Penning-Zeisler’s Vollbier.
-Drinkability is through the roof.

On tap at the brewpub.

Bottle. Brite, amber. Delicate carbonation. Persistent one-finger head that laces nicely. Very enticing. Don’t drink too quickly as aroma really opens up as approaches room temperature, revealing sweet fruits and later a little roastiness. Mineral sensation in the mouth. Pleasant soft bitter linger. Could drink till the cows came home.
