Bayerischer Bahnhof Original Leipziger Gose
Bottle, Hazy gold with a negligible white head and a light but prickly fizz. Salt and lemon smell. Salt is in charge of the flavour too but not overwhelmingly so; there’s space for some light lemon, a touch of funky tartness behind and some spice in the finish. Maybe a bit thin at times and lacks the wow factor, but otherwise well balanced and refreshing- although with that usual gose marketing genius thing of the salt leaving you thirsty for more!

Carbonazione media. Corpo medio. Una buona interpretazione dello stile.

Bottle @ LIBF’16. Shared with the RB Belgian team. Couleur dorée, persque transparente, birch sap water, col minime blanc.

Bayerischer Bahnhof Goseator - Rum Barrel
Bottle @ LIBF’16. Shared with the RB Belgian team.

Bayerischer Bahnhof Goseator Double Wood
Bottle @ LIBF’16. Shared with the RB Belgian team.

Bottle @ LIBF’16. Shared with the RB Belgian team. Léger orange, col fin blanc disparaissant vite.

Bayerischer Bahnhof Goseator - Rum Barrel
At LIBF. Several German breweries, including this one and Freigeist, are experimenting with German traditions in combination with international craft beer culture, and this is a good example: a hybrid of Gose and Doppelbock aged on rum barrels... Egg-white, loose head, pretty deep amber robe. Aroma of white rum (even ’baco’ - a cocktail of rum and cola), coriander, caramel, lemon, wood and strong varnish-like solvents. Soft sourish onset with sweetish edge and a candied orange-like aspect, yoghurty tartness with very soft and subtle salty accent, smooth caramelly malt body as in indeed a (helles) Doppelbock, some coriander and, expectedly, a woody finish with lots and lots of rum in both flavor and alcohol. I hate rum and rum barrel aged beers just don’t do it for me, but I have to admit this is a very interesting brew keeping me interested in the other variations.

Bayerischer Bahnhof Frühlingsgose
At LIBF, apparently a Gose (from the brewery which basically resurrected the style from a bygone era) spiced with chamomille and rose petals... Medium sized, thickly lacing, egg-white head over a hazy ochre golden beer. Aroma strongly suffering from DMS (cooked cauliflower), apart from hints of coriander seed, soggy white bread, straw, Sauerkraut and field flowers. Soft sourishness in the mouth, salty touch as expected from the style, soapy wheat, apple-ish fruit esters, floral hints and coriander, earthy finish. Not my cup of tea and I hate DMS.

No head, due to artificial lighting, arbitrary appearance rating. Sherry drink, vanillaed brandy (not Bourbon), perfumey, bath salts. Old wine barrels, more bath salts, artificial fruitesters. Slick, sticky, but not really thick-bodied. Weird. Weird is the only epitheton coming to mind.

Huge thanks to Bayerischer Bahnhof for this beer! Beer in the glass looks awesome! Nice head. Fine malty aroma with intense fruity notes. Starts strong but almost without any alcoholic notes. Then there’s an overwhelming flood of fruity notes that made me think of an IPA. Wonderful fruity notes of mango, also some apricot. Mild sweetness in the background. Light woody hints. Finish well balanced, still strong, a bit less fruity, still with a lot of interesting hoppy notes. The alcohol is very well hidden. Awesome maibock!

On tap at Gasthaus und Gosebrauerei Bayerischer Bahnhof, Leipzig. Hazy orange with a nice, white head. Fairly mild aroma, grainy and yeasty notes, hints of sour berries and fruits. Moderate sweet with nice acidity and moderate flavour intensity. Certainly a refreshing berevage when enjoyed on a sunny day in the biergarten.

Huge thanks to Bayerischer Bahnhof for the chance to try this beer. Looks awesome in the glass zippy, nice head. Wunderful spicy aroma, nice notes of camomile. Quite drinkable. Really nice!

Pours hazy orange color with a large white head. Rose hip and coriander on the nose, yeast, mild toffee notes. Bottle from Humlen Ølutsalg, Bergen. One of the original German gose beers? Exciting indeed. Pours a slightly hazy golden body with a medium white head. Nose is citrus, rose water, minerals, pale malts and hints of apricot and straw. Taste is pale malts, citrus, apricot, straw and hints of red berries, minerals and salt. Light body, medium to high carbonation. Very different from most "craft goses", this beer sports a lot of fruitiness and quite a bit of salt, while being rather restraint when it comes to lactic sour tones - the ones present are also pretty different from the classic sour mash notes. I do prefer sour mashing or otherwise bacterial souring over added lactic acid, which seems to be the case here, but otherwise this is a thirst-quenching and easy-going beer for sure.

Super do lekko usmażonej ryby i kiszonych ogurkow.
