Rogan (Sun-InBev) Reviews

Staropramen Dark 1.9
Beer is rich dark brown color with a light ruby color. Foam medium-grained, moderately resistant. In the "open" light caramel flavor and characteristic grain component. Carbonation is quite high. The body is not tight, the taste is very wishy-washy, slightly burnt coffee, and perhaps that’s it. In contrast to the same sorts of Czech, which are at a fairly low density Wort very pronounced flavor, Ukrainian beer «Staropramen temne» this is not absolute. In fact, the taste of the beer is practically absent, and "revealed" beer in the aftertaste, which felt a palpable bitterness of burnt caramel, slight astringency.

Off white head. Clear pale golden body. Scents of grass, fruits, apple, pale malts. Tastes pale malts, mild apple, sweet wort, peels - leading to a grassy finish with some fruit peel. Ok and straightforward. Clean. No off-tastes. Approved. [50cl brown bottle, 4.8%abv, BB10.08.15, B@Silpo Lviv UA]

500ml bottle, brewed in Ivanovo, but I don’t really think it’s worth making a Russia entry for this beer. Pours clear gold with a small white head. Aroma is sweet and grainy. Taste is slightly sweet, bready and rather watery. Doesn’t stand out from the other Zhigis.

PET 1,2L. Fresh. Clear grey-golden, white frothy head with poor retention. Light cooked fruit aroma with some harsh sulfur/stricken matches. The tastes light sweet and sour, like a poor homemade white wine. Not much hops in it. Light astringency and light fusel. Pretty bland.

BOTTLE 50 CL. Bright yellow, white frothy head. The aroma has notes of tart fruity sweetness, sort of like landbiers, with a distinct hay and herbal note. The taste is of an ordinary macro-lager, minimal malt sweetness, light bitter finish with alcoholic harshness. Pretty crappy.

BOTTLE 50 CL. Clear yellow-golden, white head with so so retention. Weak aroma of white bread and insecticide. The taste is sweetish, mineral water, so fusel and hops at all! Horrible. 3-2-4-1-7=1,7

25-APR-2015. CAN 50 CL. Clear golden with a white frothy head. Aroma... What!? Hoppy with notes of gooseberry and other tart and astringent fruit, some yeast an dough - feels much like a belgian blonde. The taste is a hybrid between a blonde and a macro-lager - fruity, gooseberry, dough, and light bitter finish with a touch of fusel alcohols, which reminds you what you are actually drinking. Soft carbonation. Decent and bizarre. 6-3-5-3-12=2,9

BOTTLE 50 CL. It starts well, with a malty and bready aroma, some fruity sweetness, but also hints of striken matches and a touch of alcohol. From here, all goes downhill. The taste is dry, well-attenuated, not to say a bit alcoholic. A hint of salt too. The finish is also has a sort of dry alcoholic astringency ans some phenolic bitterness. So, if at the beginning the alcohol just spices things up, by the time you reach the middle of the glass it gets annoying. Too harsh - needs some malts.

BOTTLE 50 CL. The aroma has some hops, malts and grains, and just a little of that raw wort - quite close to a normal beer. The taste is lightly sweet, malty, a touch of unfermented wort, some CO2 acidity, zero hop bitterness. This beer is actually halfway between an ’alcohol free’ and a real lager. Not bad.

Clear golden beer, bubbles, bright off white head, airy and fine retention. Aroma of sweet fresh malts, grassy hops. Taste of grassy wet hops and pale malts. Finishes on the bread side. Fresh carbonation, macro lagerish body. As low alco, quite alright. [50cl brown btl, Bb070515 B@Sil’po Kremenchuk UA]

Huge off white light head, clear golden body, bubbles. Fruity, wort, red apple, fruity caramel and malts to the nose. Tastes sweet malts, pale stuff, syrupy notes, white bread, sweet wort, caramels again, on a somewhat backbone of "dark" hops. Fresh enough and normal feel. Finishes with some doughy notes, still some hops are alive, malts began to dry out. Sweet overall. [50cl br btl 5%abv 11.5°, Tap180914 Bb170315, B@Sil’po Kremenchuk UA]

Big head off white. Clear pale golden body. Aroma of barley malts, berry peels, dusty hops. Taste of sweet malts, some apple, some bitter far back. Strong pale lager. Rice and corn added give too much sweetness. Alco notes. Somewhat fruity finish, sweet, more alco notes. Normal body, modest carbonation. I would think that munks would like a darker beer with less alcoholic sidetastes. [50cl br btl 6.9%abv 16°, Tap150814 Bb110215, B@Sil’po Kremenchuk UA]

(Bottle, thank you Anicka) Pours in crisp pale color with medium, but short lasting head. Aroma is light malts, little bit fruit from the yeast, very minimal. I’m picking up also some noble hoppiness, light as well. Taste is low sweet, with medium short lasting bitterness. Body is medium, dry, refreshing with high carbonation. Not bad for an eurobeer.

500ml bottle from supermarket in Vyborg, made by Sun-Inbev Ivanovo and also by a bunch of their breweries in Russia, abv between 4.5 and 4.7%, characteristics seem very similar to the Ukranian version by the same joint so I put here, recipe is the Soviet now public domain one anyway. Light gold colour, small white head, aroma of grain, dough and grass with a hint of caramel, taste is stale bitter and somewhat metallic, abrupt metallic and slightly sweet finish, light body, medium carbonation. Drinkable but not very pleasant Soviet lager, nuff said.

Taste as a beermix with syrup-lemonade and a skunky beer. Crazy roasted syrupy feel. Aftertaste bread with honey. Funny joke this beer. It is made in Ukraine, with picture of monumental building in Moskva, which is funny, because it is made so far from Moskva. And the taste is also far from a beer... Ukrainians really have humour.
