Tolstyak Zhivoe
500ml bottle with a less creepy label. Pours slightly cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is white bread, hay, malt. Taste is yeast, hay, bread. Light bodied. As the previous rater pointed out, the ingredients are slightly odd.... Not sure if I have seen "extract of acacia" used in other non-filtered Russian beers.

Tolstyak Khmelnoe Krepkoe
500ml can. ABV is 7.7%. Haven’t seen this one in Moscow, seems to be a beer for the regions only. Pours clear gold with a small white head. Aroma is grain, bread, slightly alcoholic. Taste is slightly sweet, grain. Actually not too bad for a strong Russian lager, alcohol is quite well disguised.

Tolstyak Zhivoe
Bottle 0.5 Несмотря на подозрительно низкую цену, не самый плохой лагер на российских просторах. Смущает немного "экстракт акации" в составе.

Straw yellow, opaque, tall airy frothy head. Average retention. Nose of grains, apple, pear, yeast, minimal spice. Light body. The taste is inoffensive, grainy, fruity, yeasty. Some bitterness along. Acceptable

Hazy, pale yellow, some weak white head. Aroma is grassy, grainy bread. Taste is weak grass, some bitter hay, grains and bread. Extremely watery... Basically it’s breaded water...

Tolstyak Svetloe (Lyogkoe)
500ml bottle. Pours deep yellow and crystal clear, with large bubbles and a soft white head which does not stay. A plain aroma of corn and grains with grassy notes. Bland taste - nothing special, some malt and faint hops. Carbonated as all lagers, and pretty easy to drink if you can disregard the lack of taste. Not impressed.

Tolstyak Khmelnoe Krepkoe
500ml bottle from Kostroma, Russia. Pours a clear golden color with no head. Has an aroma of apple, corn and a little banana. Very active carbonation. Better than most industrial lagers from Eastern Europe. Alcohol is well hidden. Thin mouthfeel. Better than I was expecting.

Tolstyak Dobroe
2.5l plastic bottle; didn’t know that that existed, but apparently it does in Russia, where a friend picked this up for me while on vacation. Clear honey amber with a thin white head that collapses almost instantly, except on the first pour which got a little out of control because, well, you try getting a proper pour out of a flimsy 2.5 liter plastic bottle. Works better with two people. Slightly sweet aroma with some harsh alcohol notes despite its moderate strength. The flavor is pretty grainy and a little sweet. No hops to speak of, and a mostly watery finish, maybe some cardboard. Very bland overall. I’m not sure how I finished this with only one other person, but I honestly never want to see this beer again.

Bottled 0,50L. Medium compact foam, enough persistent. Shining yellow color, luminous and bubbly. Inconsistent and lean scent; watery and light malty notes. Little perceivable alcohol, modest bitter. Short and watery end.

Light bronze colour with large bubbles and a big head. Aroma of honeydew, salmonberries. Flavour is somewhat bubblegummy, though with a solid pale malt background. Sweetish, similarly phenolic finish. Just strange.

This beer was not so good. No foam at all. I bought 2 bottles of 1 liter. So I have one to go. I gave it a second chance. And supprice it was much better.

Brewed for Schwab Dortmund. Grainy lemon-like aroma No head at all. Thin, sweetish and grainy. Somewhat flowery with just a hint of cologne (Kölnisch Wasser). Lacks quality, but at least the beer is drinkable.

Thin frothy head, golden color. Just a slight grainy aroma, even a bit oily. Medium to full bodied. Grainy flavor with no hopbitterness, maybe just a hint of orange tartness. Bland, with a bit nasty aftertaste.

Golden color. No darn taste. No darn bitterness. BUT - a dry bitterness. Pleasant to drink though, it has got to be the circumstances....whatever they were...
