Poltava Zhigulivske Svitle (Shigulewskoe Svtloe)
Many thanks to Erzengel for sharing! Pours clear pale golden colour with a mid-sized good lasting white head. Aroma of grainy malt, dry old hops. Taste of very grainy malt, cereals, corn, mild hops, meh...

*Bottle from a Eastern-European supermarket in Wuppertal. Grainy smooth nose. The beer starts fresh and quite full bodied. Hints of sourness in the background, easy to drink with a grainy body with dusty hints. Malty smooth with not too much bitterness, a bit bitter-harsh in the end. Not too bad.

Most notable for the truly unexpected name/label (who would have thought, a Baltic-and not just Baltic but Latvian--city held up as an example of good beer anywhere south of say Jelgava?), it’s got a bit of an off-hop aroma and a slightly yeasty, slightly funky, slightly hoppy finish; in other words, perfectly undistinguishable beer qua beer.

Really attractive and unique ruby-amber-sepia appearance, straightforward malt taste, some caramel notes, and a fairly (alas) dull finish. (Main problem is that the body is too thin, but that doesn’t get in the way of enjoyment.) Best of the three I’ve had from Poltava, at least, and worth drinking.. (16.9 oz bottle, Silpo, Mykolayiv)

Pretty terrible rust-malt aroma, and the rest isn’t much better, with the skunky taste I associate with the zhyhulivske/zhigulovskoe genre definitely present. This one is however much yeastier, which improves things, though I wouldn’t necessarily return to this one

500 ml bottle. Bought in a random supermarket in Kiev. Malty roasted smell, very good! Vainilla in there has well. Low white head with kind of transpartent black, sorry guys from Poltava, but this look like a Coca Cola. Taste is also great, vainilla ending in a chololate matly cereal experience. Great beer for sure! Nice suprise with my first ukranian beer.

Bottle. Beer straw color with a surprisingly abundant and persistent foam. The featureless flavor: weak malty tones and light floral and herbaceous notes. Body moderately dense, in a rather bland taste: presnovato malty tones and light notes of water. Lightly oiled taste, which quickly replaced the fading malt component comes expressive acidity and mild, slightly harsh hop bitterness. Aftertaste with pronounced acidity and rough hop bitterness.

Pale pale golden beer, white big head. Aroma; sweet pale malts, but also grassy notes. A mild beer, but still with taste as a beer. Very pale malts, sweet grains, lot of bread notes. Clean and easy feel. Not diluted. Finishes on grains, and fine bread, and finally hoppy notes appear. Better than expected from a 3.5-er, also when not well chilled. 0,5 bottle. Aroma is weak, guessing some coffee with fruits notes. Colour is dark brown, red. Looks like coloured lager, probably it is, regarding E150C caramel colour that is mention on the etiquette. Have no idea why it is so hard to brew beer without any artifficial crap. Head is brown and very poor, disappeared with first drink. Soft carbonation. Light and a little bit oily body. Taste is sweet, something in between coffee and chocolate.

Certainly has more character (and less sweetness) than most industrial ex-USSR pale lagers. Quite easy-drinking.
